Re: ex-blueyonder newsgroup access

As taken from VM staff on support group.

"Hi All,

For your information maintenance has been scheduled for Monday morning
at 8:00am on the binary news platform news.blueyonder.co.uk. This will
appear on the status page shortly. The work is to reinstate the storage
that was lost over a week ago due to a double disk failure in an array.
There will be a period of approximately 15 minutes where
news.blueyonder.co.uk will be completely inaccessible. As a result of
this work around 50% of the articles will be lost and for 12 hours or so
after the maintenance we will only be using 50% of the storage until new
news spools are generated. Once completed new articles will be written
to all of the storage and normal retention levels should be established
in the following days after.

We have also established new peers to improve article completion
although this wont be particularly evident until the storage work takes
place on Monday."

Re: ex-blueyonder newsgroup access

I ceased being a blueyonder (now Virgin) broadband subscriber today, and failed to access "news.blueyonder.co.uk" newsgroups today. I have the newsgroups on a disk, but the toolbar is telling me that "access is denied" as I am not a "recognised as an authorised user of the system". I am now with Sky broadband, but do not want to lose access to the blueyonder newsgroup s - is there any way around this for me?

no

you can only access the news server from a VM IP range

Hi,
I don't understand, am I meant to put "telnet news.blueyonder.co.uk" in the "server name" field, and "119" in the "port" field? I did this and I still cannot download newsgroups using Xnews.Or am I being dumb???
