I must admit, this is something I too unsure about. Sky have said in their PR that all they asked was for 3p per customer (I assume in total, rather than extra)

We’re as disappointed as Virgin Media’s customers that the channels they enjoy are no longer available to them. Our latest offer of just 3p per Virgin Media customer per day for an even bigger and more valuable package of basic channels is very fair, and it remains on the table.
However, there seems to be word going around, although as far as I can see, unconfirmed by either Sky or Virgin, that there was another point in the contract that specified a minimum price that Virgin had to pay in addition to the 3p per customer. Apparently, the minimum price they had to pay was much more expensive than the 3p per customer price, thus invalidating the whole 3p per customer part completely.

I never said that wasn't factual - indeed, my point was that it was factual, i.e., it's 3p per customer per day. Whether or not it is fair to VM is a separate question to whether a particular customer would choose to pay it.

But can I clarify - was it an _extra_ 3p, as so far I've only seen people saying that was the new price?

I did reply to your original post which you questioned the extra_3p as the new price! My reply was to tell you that the 3p_extra is on top of what they pay already i.e if VM are paying £40million now to carry Sky One, the new deal was to add another £40million on top to make the whole deal £80million....clear enough this time???

I was just asking for clarification, as this point seems to be rather uncertain.

That 3p works out to £40m isn't in dispute - indeed, that was my point, that £40m is only 3p per customer, which many may be willing to pay (after all, it beats spending out loads for the DVDs, or paying an extra £10+ a month to get more replacement channels from VM).

No thanks... I'll wait for the DVD boxsets.

Boxsets??? Why wait? most have been out for years heh!..SG1 that is 10 years+... and the rest you can get easily..
no need to appease murdoch..If Virgin has any clout/muscle it could easily have its own versions of SKY++++++

James Murdoch is quoted as saying...
Quote:

We operate an open platform. We prepared for them, prior to the renewal of their retail carriage agreement, a whole open access package that would have allowed them to retail their Flextech channels. They did not want to do that, perhaps because they did not want to take the risk. We offered to do the same deal with our channels on Virgin. We have said "look we'll provide your customers with the channels, we'll take the risk, it won't cost you a penny". But they seem to like having a closed platform.
Also, in the same article, he refers to the 3p per customer per day deal - it is not, as you say, supplementary to their previous price. The 3p per customer per day is the total price.

VM are doing a good job up to now..its Vod knocks the socks off sky..those thinking of moving will probably be back in a year. VM just need to get us back our favorites that we lost on Sky and they are Rocking..Stargate Please..even the reruns will do.

Personally Sky will have to do a lot to tempt me to them - they have nothing that rivals On Demand and the upcoming Sky Anytime, from what I have seen, is pants in comparison.

I am lucky that my Mum has Sky+ so she is recording 24 - the only programme I miss.
