* What's on NOW and NEXT for your 50 favourite channels
* The facility to switch on/off subtitles and audio description via the help button
* Synopsis for current programme
* The facility to scan up and down the NOW and NEXT info for channels and the respective start times for up to 6 hours (however the synopsis can only be read for the programme being watched - this is something that is being worked on for - a much anticipated/long running request)
* The messages button to quickly check for email/text messages via sky active
* It also displays if the channel being watched is in HD; if it carries Dolby Digital; if it's broadcast in Widescreen; if it has subtitles; if it's got narrative description and wheather you can record the programme without Macrovision scrambling the picture

From what people report here and on Digital Spy, cable boxes are notorious for taking a while to change channel/give synopsis info/acxtion any request from the remote. So there is a world of difference between Sky and Virgin Media's banner - thankfully Sky's version doesn't take for ever to scroll through what's on the channel your watching (limited to up to 6 hours) and every other channel on the satellite platform.

My box is absolutely fine at doing this and im sure many are: Ntls current Now and Next does the everything I require far better imo, messages etc are unecessary clutter. Synopsis, Subtitles, Audio Description are available by miniguide for all channels where available, info on w/s rating, repeat etc in synopsis.

I think it depends what Sky box you have, the last box I used pretty standard was an Amstrad absolutely crap! The Pace boxes were not much better. Most Sky installs will be done with the cheap boxes unless you request otherwise. So the standard service will be a slow as I experienced.

I saw it in the screenshot for the new menus next to the new 0845 454 0000 number.

So what will happen to 0845 142 0000? Will it just go like 0800 953 9000?

The 8am-8pm opening hours are the current ntl hours. I don't believe there's been an annoucement on whether the ntl or Telewest customer service hours will be used long term.

hey all 1st post...

it looks very similar to the current telewest set-up (epg design and layout) but with some decent improvements (i.e elimination of 3 x 3 grid)...

I hope they have improved more of the UI

ps is subtitles accessible form the now/next bar as i've previously heard?

Subtitles are available from the now/next bar (MiniGuide).

See my other post in the thread "Begun, this Virginercation Has [Firmware Review!]" for an explanation to the UI.

Quoting from the Virgin media brochure "Hello you" which you should receive with a letter from Richard Branson in a maroon and black envelope through which the address is very difficult to see (I would not be surprised if some are misdelivered) page 4:

Quote:

We are going to look after you

We're going to be there when you need us

We're working towards delivering amazing service every time. To help us do that, we've recently invested even more in customer service - over £5m in fact. So by the end of March, you'll be able to call us any day of the week, between 8am and midnight (bold print mine). And if you get stuck, or something with your service goes wrong, our technical team will be on hand to help 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

The software is being trialled in an area for each platform - Coventry (Langley), Ashford (Bromley) and Basildon (Knowsley - Telewest).

I would think that as the launch of Virgin Media is 14th February, that the software would be downloaded to other areas gradually between March and June subject to there being no serious problems with the trial in the pilot areas.

I don't know whether there is a planned roll-out schedule or not. In any case things can change at the last moment. I don't whether you are on Bromley platform but IIRC when CR3 or CR3.1 was scheduled to be released in Leeds in April :Yikes: 2004?, the code was pulled at the last minute because of problems.

Re: New Virgin EPG

Yes, the new EPG still allows access to TV Email, an SMS service and a chat service. The last two might be ex-ntl areas only, but I don't think so...
