You pay £37.99 for it? I think you should phone them up then as you should be on 2mb for that. 2mb doesnt even cost that I dont think

BT charge £17.99, NTL is £17.99. It is competitive. I don't see what you're saying other than NTL will get customers and BT will get customers. A £9.99 incentive gets NTL more customers, which earns you more profit in the long run. Side by side (if there was no £9.99 offer) people may choose BT because they have been around longer and have a bigger reputation. Although the phone rental is far cheaper on NTL so you would think people would prefer NTL over BT.

I thought that phone rental was the same for both BT and NTL, £10.50 per month.

For broadband BT and NTl aren't the only players. Many other companys are offering better deals, they get customers because of this. It's a long term issue for many people, I'd much rather go with a company that have better long term prices than short introductory offers and then revert to an uncompetitive price.

I got enough business sense to know its dumb, me and you both dont know if it is profitable or not, but you still havent commented on the fact that if it isnt profitable then why are NTL offering it. The type of customers this offer will lure in wont stay when it goes back up to the normal price, they will be of to the next provider offering a deal to new customers. So clever NTL will have succeeded in paying someone to use their broadband.

Then why not £9.99 for only 3 months or why not just £15.99, why the need to undercut by almost 50% for an entire YEAR this kind of thing really pees of current customers.

Re: ntl 1mb BB at £9.99

I phoned up and discovered that they had managed to have me on all three cable modem tarriffs at the same time  despite complaining about being incorrectly billed for the eigth month on the trot

The girl gave me a 'backdated discount till april' (will wait and see what happens about that as the bill is invariably wrong or has some bogus charges on it). She also "applied the code" that makes you have the £9.99 deal for a year, or at least said she did. I have had conversations with 'retention' before now and the things I have been told that will happen simply do not. I asked previously about a guy who claimed he had 'lognoted' my previous complaint and there was simply no record of my phoning in at all. The bloke had simply given me a load of bull to get me off the line.

Basically, if my bill is wrong next month (making it the ninth time I will have phoned in about it) I will leave and they will lose my custom. What's more, I will wait till the bill gets issued and stop the direct debit by way of my 'fine' to ntl for being such a shower of sh*t

And you will receive a visit from a debt collection agency if you refuse to pay your bill. Why not try the easy way, contact a member of the team and ask them to forward you details and complaint to NTL so it can be dealt with properly? It's been successful on a number of occassions already recently.

yes - but these things can be challeged and in court if neccessary. Its like you have to haggle with them every month about what's what regarding the bill

Not sure why you don't seem to think Paul's idea of asking the team for help is not a good one, the team have an excellent record of sorting stuff like this out.....

Hmm, we are here to help and have the ability to forward problems and have 100% track record in getting them resolved, so maybe your username is an apt description

the girl I spoke to was also allegedly 'there to help' and has purportedly 'sorted it all out' (like I have been told all year long) - if she hasn't and next months bill is wrong that's it - I am off to BT and Sky. I don't see why you've got to start having a go at usernames and so on.

Maybe it's because you are being offered assistance to guarantee it is dealt with fully and properly and you are ignoring/ refusing/ laughing at the offer.
The team can and will contact someone high up in NTL on your behalf and can find out exactly what has/ has not been done to rectify the problem and in doing so can make sure that it is resolved fully and to your satisfcation by the time your next bill is sent out.

You should take the offer of having it dealt with before simply cancelling payment.
