I'm sure there are plenty of ways to do it - but probably best not to mention it on here ;)

There are ways to do it.

But they will not be discussed here, by the way :)

Didn't the MAC address used to be stored in your profile, many moons ago?

Re: Warning

Re: Warning

If there using a cloned modem there is a chance they will reclone this and try again,Also chances are the ip address stored will be from a cloned modem so the suspect will not be tracable this was.
Would ntl know if 2 modems with the same mac were trying to access the net at the same time? would ntl block both?

can't say too much about how it is all done... but yes ntl can detect and trace cloned modems and take appropriate action :)

You carnt detect all the people who have cut the return path in their box!;) Nor can you detect all the cloned smartcards and people using those rubbishy "free PPV £30 credit" return path filters on ebay.

Hopefully the new VOD software will put a stop to it, but knowing ntl its doubtfull.

Actually,we can.but it's manpower heavy. One of the ways is noise put on the network by the chipped box,we fit a noise blocker at the tap. Also,we can also tell if a box is non responsive (no return path) and what channel someone is watching. After all,i've only been with ntl for 7 years.
