By the time they left I was feeling so benevolent I offered them some plasters for the nasty grazes on their knuckles. Elections certainly do bring us all together. |
Re: BNP manifesto
ooo can I have a real MP5 then? Might be a bit messy if I take the wrong one to my next airsoft skirmish!
Oh hang on, it's made by the Germans, doubt I'll be allowed it, but hang on, wasn't the SA80 range of guns "fixed" by the German H&K? I don't want to have an american armalite! Hmm, wonder if I'd be allowed to have an american built M8 even though it's german designed... Do the BNP members not realise just how stupid they sound? Can we not sue them for defermation of charactor as their policies and party beliefs are certainly not British? Would national service actually be a good thing, I've often wondered, but being too young to have any experience I don't know. Looking at other countries it seems to work where there is national pride, but where there isn't, it's quite a joke. |

My currect GF is a "bl**dy foreigner" (my little joke with her), and her feelings along with many of her foreign freinds are the same on this subject. They are annoyed because they had to complete conversion training in their own country for their profession before they were allowed in this country, so hard as it may seem to some her and her friends agree with stopping foreigners coming in here under different terms. I was at a house party on Friday night, with the majority of attendees being foreign. (another barbecue with rice) I admit that I did feel uncomfortable when the guys were talking about this very subject, but they rightly do not consider themselves to be scrounging foreigners because they are here at the countries request and needs. One of them is a priest back in his home country and you can imagine what our discussion was like. :D |
Re: BNP manifesto
All very well, but irrelevant, since your other half and friends aren't asylum seekers but, essentially, economic migrants* (the economy in question being our own, which has deficiencies in skills in certain areas). Ditto my grandad coming from Ireland to work in the Midlands metals industry - he got paid more, they filled a vacancy.
'Asylum seeker', before the unfair and prejudiced demonisation in the right-wing tabloids over the last few years, means 'someone seeking a safe place to live'. That some people choose to *masquerade* as asylum seekers is undeniable (and the point of the asylum system should be to categorise people as one or the other, and kick the latter out). There are many examples of people starting off as (legitimate) asylum seekers and becoming net contributors to society - every East African Asian I've ever met, for instance (they either drive BMWs or Saabs, in my experience). That's to be admired and celebrated, I think. Lazily repeating the line that 'all asylum seekers are scroungers' does not move the debate on into a realm of honesty, but merely keeps it in the gutter where the Daily Mail, Express and Sun operate. Hence me pulling you up on it. *Who vastly outnumber the asylum seekers, and are in turn vastly outnumbered by the number of students coming here from abroad to study (320,000 per year, I heard). |

To pick up on your last line. I have only experience of one foreign student, and she was paying around 10K a term for her course but I guess thats not considered in many arguments when raised. The reason why we are inviting foreigners in to work with open arms, in relatively well paid jobs is the succession of governments who have ruined those careers. We have ended up with a situation where there are certain career paths that used to be aspired to, and are now avoided. We must lay the blame at the current and former government for our situation. I would never say "all" asylum seekers are scroungers, but the very nature of people arriving in this country with no documentation and saying they come from country xyz has proved difficult to police. I accept there have been genuine people fleeing these countries to save their lives and their families, however they should be returned when the country is safe. |
