When PVR and VOD comes in Ntl will become a major threat to Sky. Sky is going to have to think of ways of outdoing Ntl. For once ntl might be ahead of Sky in a couple of years. We could start to see people that used to be with Ntl coming back to them and people that are with sky could start moving to Ntl (if they are in the areas). And a merger just shows more potential for giving sky tough competition! :Yikes:

sky will make sky+ the entry level standard with major promotion and priced to sell. possibly they will also bundle a BT line for less than the combinded cost.

But they can manage TV on Demand. This is essentially just an extended version of that, obviously with several differences technologically.

i say lets give NTL a chance on this before we start complaining..

ok quite a few of us have had problems with the STBs, crashing, no interactive, loosing TV settings etc but they really are trying to make things better and even introduce new services and better broadband speeds..

lets wait until VOD is there and see what it is like before we start complaining..

If Ntl plays their cards right they could make a success of VOD, or they could majorly screw it up!

But do NTL own the content ?, sky have rights to so much more than Ntl and at the end of the day its not the deliver mechanisim that wins its the content.

They own the rights to a huge number of movies through Front Row (which this is replacing).

NTL don't own any content at all. It's the On Demand Group who are responsible for all that.

Aparently the VOD rights for things like movies are sold separately from the pay TV rights, so it's possible that ODG will be able to show the same films that are on Sky Movies.

As always though, we'll have to wait and see.

I'd hope there'd be films from SKY box office rather than SKY movies as the films on the sky movies channels are ancient!

Um... Front Row will still be there.

I was talking about the subscription services.

i guess it's just one of those things we will just have to wait and see about.. not sure how they will handle things like 18 rated films .. don't us the On Demand stuff at the moment do how does that work over there ?

I can't see Sky letting NTL have something that will let them have an advantage though..

Would love to see TCM have their moves on VOD
