Well seeing as only around 15 users of this site out of a membership of over 6,000 have posted in this thread I don't think it is a very good point at all.:td:

Am I correct to say that you implying that 5985 users of this site

a) Do not care/mind if somebody uses chipped boxes
or
b) (god-forbid) they are fine with the use of chipped boxes or they are users themselves?
I know you are not saying that, so what are you trying to say?

i care....and so does everyone else...why should all those chipped people pay cheap stuff when we pay full price...i hope they get charged and BACK PAID....they should pay for all services and front row movies they have since subscribing. Everyone should at least be fined

From the post by mrjed,
" i guarantee most people on this site download music regularly"

he doesn't surmise, he can guarantee that most members of this forum illegally download music,
You seem to think this is a good point, whilst I think that statement is complete tosh, however I cannot guarantee that it is. :)

Re: Rumour?

i hope you can accept my humblist apologies for my sweeping generalising statement, maybe it was taken a bit out of context, as i dont know any of you guys

i just made an analogy between the 2 forms of illegal piracy of our modern age, I dont like people who steal digital, for many reasons id be happy to answer if you pm'd me, but then again i download music, its a moral dilemma i guess, what makes one form of piracy moderately acceptable, and the other totally unacceptable

another point, do you think the people who have been caught will get prosecuted? the answer is NO, what will happen is the box will be replaced and not a word said to them, is that fair?

answers on a postcard

but hey, im not out to make an argument or to generalise, i just made a badly written point :)

Thats the problem with today's society, people assuming what everyone is going to do or is doing, or thinking.

Those people live in a black and white world where they cannot accept that there are variables in the world and everything will not always go to plan and because they do not go to plan they blame others, or they refuse to consider alternatives from others because it isn't written down in front of them and that they didn't think of it themselves.

Sorry for the hi-jack. :)

Re: Rumour?

i think its more the equality thing, people work hard for their money, and demand a quality service for their money, its a bit of a kick in the nuts when someone else is getting it for free, but good job on ntl for at least trying to stop fraud

Re: Rumour?

I'm feeling rather smug that these people have lost service. I pay over £90 a month to ntl for my services and was always ridiculed by colleagues and co-workers beacuse they had a chipped box.

Now I can point and laugh at my boss who recently bought a chipped box. Lovin' it.

So is it digital or analogue thats not supposed to work?

I bet that they have it figured out by now, doesnt usually take long.

It was something very simple that was changed in the digital stream. Anyone "in the know" would have had the box back up & running in minutes. Anyone not "in the know" would have been on to the dodgy geezer they bought it from. :D

This has been happening in ex C&W areas since July. Only recently have Telewest & pure ntl regions joined in.

I dont think the changes mentioned above affected chipped analogue boxes, although the cable companies may be using other techniques to combat those.

I will be honest this doesnt bother me, although I dont have a chipped box I know that by doing this it doesnt make anything better for anyone else it just gives NTL more porfit which I dont care about since I dont work for them.

Re: Rumour?

This discussion where people are talking about seeing things in black and white does raise a smile for me. It's OK to side up with ntl as a company as being in the right and the users of chipped boxes being in the wrong.

ntl used to use scramblers for their analogue service on some networks that were built in-house as a direct rip-off of the BDSE scrambler by Jerrold. I was involved in some of the latter design of this "Illegal" practice, where a Jerrold BDSE had parts of it's circuit copied so we could manufacture our own scramblers to work with the ACC2000/4000 and the 7000 series set-top box. I was involved in some of the design, but mainly came into the project late to upgrade the program tagging/identity to enable the unit to be used for PPV events. I have a full circuit diagram of these units, and if the original manufacturer had found out that ntl were using copies made in-house, I'm sure legal action would of followed.

Much of the Microwave link loss and path pfofile calculations for the WHAM trial were conducted with illegal software that I supplied to the ntl department running the project.

I'm just trying to say that ntl employees shouldn't get on their high horse about this, when the company uses illegal software and rips off other peoples products themselves.
