Errr hang on a moment - i use a program to send my CV to a list of Agentcys every now and then - this rattles off 1500-2000 (roughly) - so your saying now im actually breaking the law or what? Not sure how long it takes as each mail have my cv attached but what i am / was doing is not spamming from my point of view - its updating my CV like.

I could put my CV online and mail them were to get it - but again will send out too many and break them rules as you quoted - so am i supposed to do one at a time???

What you are doing may well have flagged up something somewhere, but if you haven't heard anything yet then obviously your isp either hasn't noticed you are doing it, or has noticed and hasn't taken any action against it.

FYI- This is Article 13 of "Directive 2002/58/EC of the European Parliament and of the Council of 12 July 2002 concerning the processing of personal data and the protection of privacy in the electronic communications sector (Directive on privacy and electronic communications)." ... in other words the European legislation that required the UK to implement an antispam law.

Member States shall also ensure, in the framework of Community law and applicable national legislation, that the legitimate interests of subscribers other than natural persons with regard to unsolicited communications are sufficently protected.

The law about spam is something that i am going to learn a lot more about, because i am doing my dissitation (sp!) on it next year. So if you thought reading the legislation there was horrible... feel sorry for me :pp

The program has a DB Companies along with Email etc - now i send out - one message at a time with my situation (location, money required etc) along with a attached CV. Now this is better than a EMail (as in one) with a header that has everybody else Name on it as well.

I have tried many ways to get them to maybe stop me this work and go to a web site and get the latest one but that was asking way too much to be honest as they wont activly go to a web site, grab my cv and update there records - only time it happens is if i send them a email and this prompts them to update....

Can anyone help - Am having a Problem with Norton Anti Spam...
I get about 300 Messages a day on my ntl account (had the account for years) norton is fantastic until it freeses and seems make the account timeout in Outlook Express. It happens on random e-mails and the only way to fix it is disable Norton Anti Spam!

I get no spam probably because the account is unuseable.

Excuse me ?? What action exactly, seeing as I may well do this from time to time.

dunno to be honest... i have never spoken to anyone who has had it happen to them, but we were told at work that 'action' will be taken.... :confused:

Oh, that's ok then - the NTL definition of "action" is usually nothing. ;)

The "more than 50 emails" thing has been misquoted .

If someone tries to send emails to more than 50 *non-existent* addresses in an alloted time, they are dropped by a spam harvester. This combats dictionary attack spammers.

I was away for a week and when I got back I had 1350 spam e-mails waiting for me.

I got Mailwasher to bounce the lot of them. That's more than 50 per hour so how do I stand on that?

I don't bother checking my NTL account now.

I'm so fed up that I've signed up for a Bulldog 2Mb service. Just waiting for it to be installed then I can ditch NTL completely.

When I had ntl installed I kept my Freeserve e-mail account.

Since 9 April all mail coming through that account has had *** SPAM *** prefixed to the subject title. It was only today that wanadoo (formally Freeserve) sent me an e-mail proclaiming that they are now automatically filtering our e-mails for spam.

Unfortunately, the filter cannot be turned off. You can only decide whether to allow the "spam" to be downloaded to your inbox with the *** SPAM *** prefix, or set it to automatically delete them.

The trouble is, the e-mails I received were legitimate. They were from 192.com, Maplin electronics & DREAMdirect. Ironically, in over 3 years of being with Freeserve, I haven't received 1 spam e-mail anyway.

I dont know what criteria Freeserve use to filter the e-mails, but I hope ntl dont use the same method.

So what are the top 3 tips for preventing spam anyway?
And assuming that prevention has failed, what is the best ways of filtering do you think?

The best way to do it is using spam filtering software. Which product you use is down to personal preference. Many people recommend Mailwasher, but personally i use Mozilla Thunderbird which has junk mail filters integrated. I have found this to be quite good, a lot more reliable than the ones in Outlook.

Prevention is always better than cure though, and there is lots of advise on here about how to prevent spam.
