Brighton is Bromley...Bromley changed this morning, Langley areas were earlier in the month.

I got my letter a couple of days agao...perfectly timed, and the system is now MUCH better than it was frankly. Of course it will take a bit of getting used to, but is much better this way.

Stupid question (probably been asked millions of times), but how do you know what area's are "Bromley" and what are "Langley"?

Well it used to be if you have BBC One on channel 1 then you were Bromley - but that isn't going to work anymore lol :D

If BBC1 *used* to be on Channel 1, then you are Bromley. If BBC1 *used* to be on 101, then you are Langley.

However it's on 101 for everyone now.

With you now. When I first got TV with ntl it was analogue and BBC1 was on channel 1. Then later on I moved to digital and BBC1 was 101.

In that case...you are Langley. Analogue numbering was different, it's digital that will clarify it.

Bromley - BBC1 was always on channel 1
Langley - BBC1 was always on channel 101

Now, everyone is 101.

Bring back channel 1 for BBC1, etc - much less effort when changing channels ;)

Weird

Had exactly the same problem. The only way of tuning to these channels was by pressing ok when looking at the listings in the mini guide. The box wouldn't tune by typing in the channel numbers, or via the full screen guide.

Rebooting solved the issue.

Re: Channel ReShuffle

Given that NTL no longer use any numbers below 100, I don't see why they couldn't have kept the traditional 1, 2, 3, 4, and 5 for BBC1, BBC2, ITV, C4, and C5.

Aren't Channel 4 going to get a bit peeved, because they are no longer "Channel 4" - are they going to rebrand themselves as "Channel 104"..?

And in a few months time, viewers will be saying "Five what..?" because "Five" is no longer "Channel 5", it's "105".

Now that I've had time to consider the changes (given that I received the notification of the changes through the post some hours AFTER the channels had changed), I can understand the logic in having similar channels in similar "blocks". Such as normal channels being 101-199, and all the movie channels in the same block, etc. However, it's funny that the block of 100 numbers assigned to the children's channels also includes the shopping channels and quiz channels. How ridiculous is that? While switching between Fireman Sam and Bagpuss, the kiddies will be enticed to 'phone premium rate "quiz" numbers. :Yikes:

That is why ntl offer a PIN lock facility, so that you can prevent unwanted viewing of certain channels.

Channels below 100 are used for those 'hidden' etv channels such as the BBCi streams :)

Browneggsandham :)

The PIN feature on our STB has been acting a bit funny... We were looking on FilmFlex, and wanted to watch a trailer for a 15 rated film, and it asked for the PIN. But when we came to watch the film (the next day) it didn't ask for a PIN!

Watch trailed before the watershed but view the film after it?

Horrible, Horrible, Horrible!

Now all the numbers are 3 digit, and the PACE STB remote response isn't exactly crisp

Re: Channel ReShuffle

Blimey, the Bromley lot don't half like a moan!

This is an excellent and welcome change that I've been wanting for years now.

Having used the Telewest system for a couple of years now I can say without reservation that three-digit channels numbers all round is far superior to a mix to one-, two- and three-digit numbers. Contrary to what people are saying, it's actually *faster* to switch channels, because you just type 101 all in one go; previously, you had to type 1 and then wait for several seconds while the box waited to see if you were going to type any more numbers.

Furthermore, to the "what was wrong with the old numbers" brigade: tell me, what sense did it make for Sky Sports 1,2 and 3 to be on channels 41-43 (from memory), Film Four on 44 and Sky Sports Extra on 950? Or the music channels to be in the range from 90-95, then a whole bunch of them spread in the 800s and 900s? There are lots more examples, but I've already forgotten the old channel numbers.

Someone else said that the broadcasters won't welcome the change. On the contrary, they can now advertise a single channel number on all digital cable services, rather than having one for Telewest, then two separate numbers for NTL.

This is an excellent and long overdue change. Bravo NTL. If this is a sign of what Telewest's involvement means, then we've got a lot to look forward to.

Re: Channel ReShuffle

Although I preferred the logic of "1" for BBC 1 etc, I do fully appreciate the need to standardise the platforms for all three systems. When you think that most areas now have Video on Demand, and NTL:Telewest/Virgin is now offering the four for £40, and NTL users now have 150 for faults - we've come a long way.

Re: Channel ReShuffle

If typing in 3 numbers is really a major hassle (I'd love that to be my worries in life) why not go to channel 0 and up twice?

DJ Dave 29-09-2006 21:31

Re: Channel ReShuffle

lol yeah it does not bother me as we had Sky, and I think it is better having them all 3 numbers as it can't just go to "9" like it did before when you wanted "90".

Very likely to be to do with the EPG as the PVR is being lauched in January and I'm guessing changes will be needed to the EPG for this (not necessarily cosmetic changes but certainly behind the scenes).

Since the channel reshuffle the EPG fails to display program information for the current program for CH 101 BBC 1. I have tried rebooting but to no avail. Anyone else experiencing this problem?

if you go into the settings menu and then re arrange channels, take the first channel(0 on demand) and move it to the bottom of the list the problem will be sorted and listings will be available for 101:)

sorry,i meant move the channel 100(on demand previews) not channel 0

Renumbering TV Channels

Does anyone else besides NTL think the renumbering of channels is a good idea. My box is one of the first ones made, and they tell me its still OK, but it takes ages to change stations now. I think it gets a brain overload trying to deal with 3 numbers. Who thought it was a good idea to make things more complicated, there is so much dross you have to put programs you like into Favourites, so why clump similar programs together. A better idea would be to allow you to delete the rubbish programs.

A friend has the same issue with her Digi Box, its REAL slow at the moment - i have Sky and that EPG craps all over it by comparision as its like a whippet on steriods compared to the decrepit old man thats the NTL EPG.

Is this a bug or is it always that bad?

It was okay prior the to change which made it the current blue scheme, speed wise. Since the change to the blue, my Pace box is really slow, snail pace slow, but my Samsung box is okay, not as fast as before though

Works like a charm. :) Thanks PS1. Is it my imagination or is the EPG now running faster since applying this work-around?

Try selecting 2. Entertainment rather than 1. All Channels. You should find that the info for BBC1 will then populate.

Give it a try.
