What’s a Lancy???

Is it the same as a Yorcy.

This quote from Somerset’s director of cricket made me laugh ‘ I have not seen evidence of excessive spin throughout the game’ ,

erm a spinner took 7 wickets for each side in the second innings.

denphone 06-09-2018 05:17

Re: English cricket hits rock bottom again !

Obviously Somerset's director of cricket has finite knowledge of spin bowling.

An amusing aside, as a true Lancastrian I will admit that my favourite brew is Yorkshire Gold from Taylor’s of Harrogate, a really great cuppa. Guess which cricket team they are sponsors of. ;)

This is more like it, only 1 wicket and a very modest 120+ runs at tea on the first day, 2.08 runs per over, proper test cricket. :)

Given the fact that the other four batsmen above him in the all time test runs list are middle order batsmen and so never had to face the new ball in every single innings, highlights Cooks class.

Notice there are some 'obscure' cricket matches on obscure channels coming up:

Paktia Panthers v Kandahar Knights FREESPORTS 12:45pm Aghanistani 20/20 - not being played in Afghanistan for some reason ....

Barbados v USA BT SPORTS ESPN 7pm 50 over match - the whole of the US will be gripped by that one !

oh and Sri Lanka v England SKY SPORTS 5:30am tomorrow -probably give that one a miss, there are limits ;)

If they can’t win now there they never will. A poor Sri Lanka side in transition, nothing like the quality of players from the past ten, fifteen years. Top order still failing far to often. A good innings from Jennings but the Aussie pace bowlers will soon work him over.

Very hard to replace the spin king plus the several world class batsman they had of old.

Them Sri Lankans don't like it up them Capt. Mainwaring ! Shame really it's not really been a contest, they're a shadow of the team they used to be. Can't see the Windies in the New Year being much different, these countries make Test cricket low priority now, England supporters are vastly out numbering home support which is very sad in a way.

However the women's 20/20 world cup final against the Aussies tonight is something to look forward to :)

Why was he not used earlier or was he injured?.

The selectors should drop themselves after this series.

Don't forget it was also the coach and some of the players that were culpable as well.

Whoever organised or agreed to the schedule is most culpable IMHO. Start with only three tests with zero preparation followed by five ODI’s and three T20’s.

Looking at the crowds though perhaps the Windies don’t warrant or deserve a full five test series anyway.

But this has been happening for quite a while now and thus so far diddly squat has been done about it.

Jason Roy still in the debit column but going a long way to making amends for dropping Gayle on 9.

Well Roy scored 123 of the 124 runs he gifted Chris Gayle, England on course for their record run chase score.
