The trouble with Sturridge talented he is is he does not work as hard as the rest of the team plus l don't think he can cope with the gegenpressing style that Klopp wants to play.

Sissoko signs for Spurs for £30 million

This being the same Sissoko:
Quote:

"Arsenal have always been the club of my heart"
(Jan 2015)

"Arsenal is one of the best European teams. To be watched by that sort of club, that proves that you are a quality player. It is good to know. I hope that I will have the chance, soon, to play for this club."
(June 2016)
Turns out he flat out ignored Everton halfway through the deal, refusing to answer his phone. Wasn't the Madrid he was looking for.

Even as a die hard United fan I wouldn't call Aguero a dirty player, he is a tough little nut but he is no Costa or Suarez that's for sure.

He's not dirty, he's sly though like a lot of players, a complete fanny when someone touches him so its surprising to see him giving one out. Joey Barton gave him a kick up the arse once and he rolled around for 5 minutes like a little girl. Pretty pointless at that point as Barton had already been sent off.

These lads don't know easy they've got it. Send them back to Roy Keane days and give them something to cry about.

It's because Costa is obvious with it, Aguero is sly and leaves his boot in, elbows etc rather than running round like a maniac like Costa does. He probably isn't at the level of Costa or Fellaini because it's not as clear.

Those two are extremes and fortunately rare in the EPL. Aguero is the type of player who is smart and knows how to get away with some fouls quite often to the point of being blatant about it and ends up having a tantrum when caught. A scaled-down version of Costa.

iadom 03-09-2016 10:19

Re: Football Season 2016/2017

We need to make a distinction between, smart, pushing the boundaries play and outright 'dirty' play.

Until that elbow last week I would not say that I have seen any outright dirty play from Aguero but that certainly was.

Some players are smart, some are a bit reckless but only a few are out and out dirty players who fully intend to cause physical harm to opponents.

For my money one of the dirtiest and most cowardly players of the last 30 odd years was Graham Souness, often portrayed as a hard man but most of the time went over the ball or into another players back whilst making sure the ref wasn't looking then quickly moving away.

I think that most of the players that play today. Wouldn't have lasted five minutes in the days of Dave Mackay.

In today's games, there are so many 'actors' on the field. And referees should be bringing out the book more often. Diving in the box. Fouls off the ball - which is why they have a linesman.

Really should've got something from that game, even though we were absolutely dreadful in the first 40 minutes. Bravo very, very lucky not to get a red card and give away a penalty for that challenge on Rooney imo!

denphone 10-09-2016 15:00

Re: Football Season 2016/2017

Man Utd were outplayed for the vast majority of the match as City had 17 shots and 60% possession so they were deserved winners and in the last 10 minute Man Utd resorted to the long ball to try to get something out of the game..

adzii_nufc 10-09-2016 15:40

Re: Football Season 2016/2017

Moments change games though, it was a great tactical display by both managers, back and forth, Pep neutralized it with a gtsy move subbing Nacho off. With that being said, Bravo being rightfully sent off and a penalty given changes everything. Winning the ball or not, he lunges in studs showing. He had an absolute stinker and its a miracle he made the 90 minutes.

I'd be annoyed too.

LOL

The "shirt pull" giroud didn't even appeal for and that has been widely described as controversial, wrong and undeserved. ;)

Still, just have to accept that another mong ref screwed up.

thenry 10-09-2016 19:20

Re: Football Season 2016/2017

Giroud did appeal throwing his arms in the air. Refs have been clamping down on shirt pulling. Definitely a penalty, no bias. controversial only if the foul isn't called up across the board, wrong if its not in the rule book and undeserved doesn't come into it I'm afraid. I could say Southamptons goal was undeserved which leaves it 1-0 to Arsenal.

Southampton didn't score yesterday, an og for all the crappy Arsenal that was on show. Be careful what you wish for. Efficiency doesn't hurt. Arsenal played some drooling football not soo long ago and got naff all for it. Also I'd say Perez was the only newly signed player that was off the pace. It wasn't as bad as some say or Southampton would have been at least a couple goals up. Long didn't finish for one.

Re: Football Season 2016/2017

Yeah I think I'd be more concerned about how Swansea scored after a blatant foul. Kicked him the back of the legs twice, never won the ball, is one on one now and scores. Courtois is rightly booked and a penalty given, Fabianski cuts off Costa in a blatant check at the other end and nothing. The idea of big club favoritism is disappearing quickly.

Also Mark Hughes was sent to the stands because he couldn't keep his gob shut, completely unrelated and in no way a similar offence. You were just looking for another reason to throw a Chelsea dig which is a common occurrence, you're fooling no one. If you're that worried you'd have pointed out the above.

Newcastle in cruise control from a shaky start to the season. Going for their second then off home. Better work rate, a mountain of increased effort. The sheer difference of switching to Benitez, UK based signings and having a real manager not a coach.

Barca 6-0 Celtic. This is what happens when you run unopposed to a league title in a boring league every year.

6-0 Newcastle, Grant Hanley, your move Barca.

Agreed, about as noisy as you after Arsenals iffy performance on Tuesday. :p:

TBH, I was out until very late last night so didn't get to see the game or highlights.

Didn't make very good reading in the paper this morning though. I had to have a little chuckle to myself when Jose complained about the offside decision. As it was an equally bad offside decision that cancelled out a perfectly good goal from Paul Scholes against Joses' Porto team that allowed them to sneak through on away goals a few years back. Swings and roundabouts comes to mind.

If you make 8 or 9 changes against a team that is playing at home, is top of their league with five wins on the bounce you are asking for trouble.

Did notice looking at the stats that Feyenoord did manage to commit 22 fouls to United's 6. Not like a Jose team to be out scored in that respect. ;)

I fell off to sleep which is just as well considering the snatch and grab performance. 1-1 away will do thanks.

MU still had a very very good squad out. Plus that record signing ;)

None of it makes sense, Fellaini is still at United? :erm: Your sole striker signing is Ibra and now you're getting 15 shots and only 2 on the net.

Re: Football Season 2016/2017

Even though Mourinho has bought some very good players they will take a while to gel but the more serious pressing issues are one Rooney is long past it in my book and needs getting shot of and then there is the laugh a minute Felliani who is basically better suited to football lower down the football triangle and then another issue is they have no decent protector in front of the back four and that is just three of the issues currently.

Abject is the only word to describe their performance, still think that was a clear foul on Martial before the first goal but 3-1 is a fair reflection overall.

How long have Sunderland been wearing been wearing this strip.

Harry Kane scores but christ he's hesitant. Absolutely no desire to strike it first time with his left. Sunderland sinking. Pennies spent, players sold, the rug being pulled beneath them. Elis Short and co have some decent questions to answer.

Well Moyes did actually say they would be in a relegation battle as soon as he arrived so l think their struggles are a surprise to no one adzii.

Re: Football Season 2016/2017

It's not so much the struggle, it's the complete lack of desire around the club. Everyone else are pulling out the cheque books and Sunderland are stuck fighting Relegation with loaned players and a relatively similar squad to last season, a season they almost went down.

Januzaj get's sent off. They're lucky to still have 10 following a blatant pull. Just like Newcastle last year, January will come far too late. Moyes will be sacked eventually as he always is now and Sunderland will slip into obscurity.

What's more dangerous for Sunderland is if they're spending nothing now, who's to say they'll suddenly spend to get out of the championship. Another Villa in the making.

Been a more one sided game with as little goals this season? 30 shots and 1 goal from Spurs. 13 corners.

Guess United are seeing City again sooner rather than later.

Surely we'll bypass Preston and be on to the last eight. RAFA!

I was under the impression that when PL clubs played in competitions. Under the rules THEY HAD TO PLAY THERE STRONGEST SIDE.

I was listening to the Spurs game. And most of the players l had never heard of.

Surely, this is breaking rules

They can play any players they want in the team.

Also just because you haven't heard of them doesn't mean they aren't a good player.

Typing in caps doesn't make your incorrect statement any more valid. Under what rules? Those rules were scrapped 5 years ago for the Premier League and have never officially existed for cup matches, Catch up.

Pretty hilarious that after a 5-0 win you're still finding a reason to appear here and moan. Guess we'll see you at the weekend for your anti Chelsea rant.

That aside, how does one expect youth to develop at top level if people have the opinion that cups should be the millionaires playing? I'll always remember fondly Tim Krul, current Ajax #1 got his first team football via the Uefa cup against Palermo some years back now as a kid, went on to get regular cup appearances and a run in the league which cemented him as Newcastles #1 Famous for funnily enough probably one of the greatest performances in a game by a keeper vs Spurs. Later being known as the guy subbed on for Holland a minute before penalties and going on to save two in the shootout, sending them through. Basically, from a few cup games to Ajax. That's the benefit of using cups against far weaker teams. Be fair.. It was Gillingham.

I believe that fielding an inexpericence team is demeaning the Cup Competition.

Yes, Spurs won 5 - 0 but there have been some games that l have gone to over the years, where, you go expecting the great players of the side. And it was the Reserves that played - and it wasn't a reserve game l went to.

Then clubs should shoot out lower ticket prices. It's London so I understand your plight, probably still a rip off in a cup game.

My own club lower them to £15/£5 for both FA and league cup.

They were £10/£3 the other night.

I don't know what Spurs are so you'd have to chime in on that.

Its not demeaning at all.

How else are young players meant to get experience?

When they play a team like that they don't need to put out their best players, it gives them a chance to rest and the younger less experianced players to get a game and build up their skills.

Same at Man United for EFL games, a decent price reduction on ticket prices.

As a kid I relied on cup games to see Newcastle play. I was too young to attend alone and the elders only had Wednesday nights off. They'd take a Tuesday off if they played that night (Weekends were off the cards as they ran a taxi firm) Money wasn't a huge factor but the generous ticket prices allowed us to attend pretty much every cup game at home per season, £15 for the Sunderland supporting grandfather and a fiver each for me and my brother. £25, you were laughing. That's 4 games for a hundred quid, in comparison, I paid £100 for two tickets upon Keegan's second coming at home to Bolton. £88 for two seats at home to City.

Even as I got old enough to go alone, he still attended, a die hard football lover that supported Sunderland but would go anywhere to watch the game played. That's the reason you'll never see me slag of Sunderland fans or the club.

http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/foot...pe/4349841.stm

£25 quid to watch Shearer score goals, worth every penny.

Attended the home tie against Sporting Lisbon just after that, Shearer scoring a retaken headed goal twice in a 1-0 win. (Scored once from a crossed free-kick that was disallowed and retaken, scored again, the madman)

Then crashed out to them in the second leg 4-1.

All in all though, Champions League nights will never change, I experienced them a few times but as you all know, it's not coming again anytime soon. Uefa cup nights though used to be just as amazing, but it's just vanished, a few seasons ago I went to all the home ties and it just doesn't feel the same, it feels how people describe the league cup. The straight knockout format was much better for me.
