I doubt it, if they are testing off the EPG in linear mode.

These channels have wanted to join the VM line up since they started, but the (then) NTL informed them that there was not enough capacity on the network.

Last I heard was that negotiations took place without agreement in 2009.

I have a dream. That by the end of 2015, we will have a date for SKY Atlantic and the HD variant to launch on Virgin. I also dream that Universal Channel HD will launch and that we get access to ITV Encore.

I also have a dream that bills will rise in October for Virgin customers by an average of 6 to 7%.

Re: Coming Soon to Virgin TV (2015) Vol. 1

I wonder if SA still has the rights for the earlier series of the most popular shows?

If not, VM viewers won't really be happy to be joining the party late; maybe Sky have now left it too late?

If they do still have the rights to the earlier material, perhaps the Sky idea is to show them again after letting VM have SA to bump up the ratings without having to buy new programming??

I assume that these channels have probably paid more to be on the main EPG than the channels on the Worldbox app.

Me too plus another Virgin exclusive

Not sure if they are being charged for the EPG slots separately or not. They might be standalone channels (though I doubt it) or put into M+ so the arrangements will differ.

There's a special pack for asian customers priced at £12 a month, it may (probably will) go into that too.

I think your HD channel section is good. Specially for 251 - 255 being for BBC, ITV, C4 and C5 HDs, but I dont know If I prefer having the other Channels HD variants grouped with the SD and +1 channel

e.g
Watch
Watch HD
Watch +1

Sky Living
Sky Living HD
SKy Living +1

I guess everyone has their own preferences....not that big of a deal as you can filter by HD channels on the guide anyway lol

Can I ask if:

-That's Solent has launch in Southampton and surrounding areas?
-STV Edinburgh has launch in Edinburgh and surrounding areas?

Both channels will be on Virgin Media Channel 159 if you stay in the area listed.

Maybe, after all some radio stations were recently moved.

WHY CONTINUE DOING THESE REBRANDINGS

For me Personally I dont mind it and dare I say like these temporary rebrands

Although I now have TIVO im still a traditional linear TV watcher so when Sky Movies have some themes I like to wacth them all group together and tell me what to watch rather than spending hour or so going through 1000 of choices. James Bond being for me a brilliant and enjoyable month.

When it comes to sport its good for grouping all on one channel and gives some casual users a focus point, for example we have superbowl coming up and no doubt skysports 3 will be renamed NFL as they are having a full week of build up and if you have a channel called NFL more people could be attracted to it; sky focuses it on one channel rather than accross a range and those who dont like can stay away from one channel.

Its like having a theme night in a pub, monday is pub quiz/darst night, tuesday pool, wedsnesday 2 for 1, some will like it, others not but a way of attracting established and new clientel

Horses for courses but for me I dont mind

Will be interesting if the live channels on the app go to IPTV channels or go to the normal channels in the EPG transmitted by DTC (or DTH and DTT in the case of satellite and Freeview households.)

Sky do it so viewers know exactly where to go if they want to watch a Superhero, Bond or Alien film...the same with the Sports. Makes sense really, I also don't mind it...uh oh :D

"NO! NO!" (executive puts head on table and punches table aggressively)

its this kind of illogical leadership from sky which could see them lose the majority of EPL football for the first time in almost 25 years. They need to review upper management and the decisions theyre making currently.

I doubt that's really an issue , Sky Atlantic exists in all Sky's European countries and only today they've announced content will be released simultaneously across all countries.

Indeed, it's a non-issue. Sky has calculated how much advertising income & fees it would get from selling Sky Atlantic to its competitors at an affordable price to them v the revenue it will get from subscribers not defecting to its competitors and decided it is better to continue with its current policy.

And I agree 3 :), no incentive from content suppliers as they are getting an exclsuive deal from Sky for their product and for them exclusivity is a good market tool to hype up excitement and create interest for those who cant watch it.

Barring "other methods" to watch content not involving sky (dish and nowTV)involve purchasing boxset and for them this good profit maker going straight back to content maker. A win-win for them and therefore no pressure from them to force sky to make it more available

harry_hitch 14-01-2015 14:55

Re: Coming Soon to Virgin TV (2015) Vol. 1

Yep, I seem to recall Sky saying it is not about making money from Atlantic, its about subscriptions only. That being said if VM were to ever give Sky the money they want for it, we may well get it.

I guess the price Sky want is to help off-set any potential lost revenue from customers potenially leaving if someone else got Atlantic.

I can't imagine customers leaving Sky for VM just because of one channel.
It is probably more to do with new customers choosing which provider to go with. Sky is using Atlantic as a selling point, rather than to keep customers from leaving.

No - Dundee, Perth etc currently don't have a 159. Glenrothes is the only place on the Dundee headend that gets STV Edinburgh.

Yeah I think Sky maybe value Atlantic too high specially as an individual channel.

I certainly would welcome Atlantic onto VM, but I definitely won't be leaving to join Sky because of it.

Maybe Sky should survery us VM customers and see what % of people would leave VM just to access Atlantic...

I seem to recall some posting something about the whole advertising revenue malarky, may have imagined it though and happy to be proved wrong. If VM got Atlantic whilst they were still giving BT Sports as part of XL and launched a 50% off the XL package, I imagine a lot of families with very little expendable cash would happily take a cheaper deal from VM if offered. I may be wrong, but in my eyes VM with SA is a much better whole package than Sky. Each to their own though, I know my brother had an awful time with VM and refuses to go back.

I agree, VM with Atlantic would be a much better package that Sky is offering. Would love to see VM topple them, but remember not everywhere has access to VM, they only cover around 50% of the country. This means not everyone would be able to move even if they wanted too.

Sky would also give discounts for their own customers who want to leave...I imagine all providers play that card.

Are you serious ? Trust me Sky conduct lots of surveys and consumer feedback , most of it I've took part in has clearly indicated Atlantic as one of the key reasons people stay with Sky.

Earlier someone mentioned the pop up channels on Sky Movies and Sky Sports this is regularly surveyed so whether you love or hate it clearly the majority surveyed are in favour of it.

My comment was tongue-in-cheek, sorry mate....

I moved from Sky to VM and Atlantic certainly didn't change my mind about leaving.

I'm sure tons have done the same not everyone is interested in Sky Atlantic plus broadband can be a key factor for many stuck on long lines with slow ADSL speeds.

No need to apologise........your more than entitled to an opinion it would be boring if we all agreed.:D

Re: Coming Soon to Virgin TV (2015) Vol. 1

I would love SA to come onto VM. Many would i am sure.

As has been said previously the fact it is not on VM has not made me or others cancel and jump to sky.

i did get Now Tv for a few months -it was orginally £4.99 pm. I could just about justify it at that price. There was enough content that i personally liked.

Blue Bloods
Game of Thrones
Luck
Boardwalk Empire
Ray Donovan

But i had all the other channels that are on Now Tv through VM (Fox, Sky 1 etc)
so i was paying just for SA really.

Now the price has gone up to £6.99 (and its not even in HD) i have now cancelled. I would not pay £7 extra a month to have SA on VM either.

Of course Game of Thrones start again soon so that may test my resolve.

People are not going to move; it's about which service to choose when deciding which pay TV Provider to go with for people either re-joining or entering pay TV for the first time. Now that Sky has fibre BB, Atlantic is a good incentive to make Sky the preferred choice.

I don't think I would change from Virgin Media to SKY for all or any of my services! I moan but I do like the rental model of their equipment, got a fault they have to fix it simple :D

I must admit that NOW TV did get me to buy a weeks SKY Sports pass for me was a cannot miss week of live sports events back in the beginning December though :)

People won't move for the sake of one channel which content can be gained easily enough via other means. People will choose the best service for them aka you - virgin media, me-online and on demand etc.

They don't. It's a reason not to defect from Sky and it's a reason for those new to pay TV to choose Sky instead of its competitors.

Of course its not everyone's cup of tea that's the beauty of multiple channels however I hardly think you can come to the conclusion it has no pull purely because you know a few who've left Sky.

There's plenty of people on the forums who have left VM , by your way of thinking shall we wrongly assume fibre broadband isn't that much of a pull ?

That's because the pay TV market has virtually reached saturation point and competition in the market has increased with many new players.

VM and Sky offer things such as speed increases , Sky Atlantic , TV Anywhere , Sky Go etc in the hope existing customers and potential new customers will think the packages represent even better value.

Look at the current connected market , smart TVs have done away with many of Sky and VM's key selling points such as Catch up TV , On Demand movies recordable features etc.

Base on info Media Boy HQ has seen only That's Solent is testing on Virgin Media right now for viewers in Southampton and surrounding areas.
