No German grand prix this year.

And Sauber likely to pay Van Der Garde £10m to settle their dispute. I think Van Der Garde was right to do what he has done, but I do want to see Nasr stay in the car.

Rosberg is as good as off. I don't think he'll amount to anything without a podium car though. It's a hard situation to be in, he has the fastest driver in F1 to deal with in fairness and the frustration must be boiling up inside. It all comes down to who's the better driver and it always was Hamilton. The only person worthy of racing Hamilton would probably be Alonso but we seen how that turned out, Alonso is another that spat his dummy out when he lost.

Yes, but what I'm saying is if Hamilton knew or thought the team were making a mistake, he should have spoke up BEFORE the tyre change. Not go along with it and then moan when it doesn't work.

Of course, he would have nothing to moan about if they tyre choice had worked.

Of course, he would have nothing to moan about if they tyre choice had worked.

To be fair to him he questioned it over the radio, and was told that the only options left were scrub sets, so he was stuck with prime trying to make up the best part of twenty seconds against a car that had been strong in the long runs all weekend. If we're honest about it, Mercedes' strategy calls have cost Hamilton at the least a chance of getting close to Vettel today - I'm not sure it's really reasonable to expect a competitive champion to be happy about that sort of thing. On the basis of the body language on the podium I'd actually say Hamilton dealt with the defeat pretty well. Rosberg on the other hand ...

On another note I'm really liking Arrivebene a lot, and in spite of not being a Ferrari fan I have always quite liked Vettel. There has been something quite thrilling about the old prancing horse this weekend - especially in qualifying. The car looks stunning.

Re: Formula 1 2015 Season thread

Normal service resumed. How boring was that. Anyone else think Merc are now running team orders? I couldn't work out why Rosberg was so reluctant to close the gap to Hamilton. I don't buy the argument that he didn't want to shred his tyres running in dirty air - if he wants to get past Hamilton he's first going to have to get close enough to do so. He's been noticeably ****ed off for most of the weekend - I think Ferrari's showing in Malaysia was enough for Mercedes to make it clear that the driver ahead at the first corner wins the race and the second placed guy runs interference.

And I think we're in for a pretty poor season as a result.

Re: Formula 1 2015 Season thread

Rosberg's lost it - completely and utterly beaten himself. The Driver's Championship isn't even going to be close but, unless Rosberg sorts himself out, Ferrari might think they have a shot at the Constructor's title. Hamilton's on for a comfortable win here - Vettel won't want to get close to him for the same reason Rosberg didn't last week, Vettel was also complaining about his tyres shredding in dirty air. Unless Rosberg can get past Vettel at the start, the race will be for third between him and Raikkonen.

Re: Formula 1 2015 Season thread

I'm going to say it now - I think today is make or break for him. If he finishes fourth behind both Ferraris, which I think is likely, I think he's done. Multi-year contract or not, if Merc don't win the constructors championship then Rosberg's out, probably to be replaced by Alonso who must have some sort of get out clause at McLaren. Where that leaves Hamilton I don't know. I think Raikkonen is doing well enough to keep his place in the red car, and I can't see him wanting to play second fiddle to Vettel either, assuming he's right that Vettel has a number one clause. I could see him returning "home" before he finishes, though.

Really liking Sainz, Verstappen and Nasr this year.

Raikkonen was always going last him, brake trouble or not, and if Vettel hadn't messed up his own race he'd have been ahead of Kimi. And that's on a day when it might be thought that Rosberg drove well.

Hamilton's coming to Europe with about a 30 point lead already.

I doubt it. McLaren are still in decline, they have been for some time. Button doesn't bring anything anyway, he's not capable of pushing a car to a top finish. Alonso and Hamilton could do that in average drives which both have done in the past. McLaren need to consider that this partnership with Honda is an absolute disaster and bite the bullet for this season giving the drivers a free season if you will.

Honda can say the speed is coming all they want but this was always on the cards for a first season back.

I think that's very harsh. Button is a World Champion, scored more points than Hamilton during the three years that they had the same car and has looked every inch the equal of Alonso so far this season.

As far as the car goes I think it's only fair to say that it's clearly so tightly packed that once Honda get their act together it's obviously going to be good. As far as Honda goes they've won an awful lot of titles as an engine supplier in the past to be discounted now. The real issue is the fact that they came in a year after the regulations were changed and have been allowed to do less development than their competitors as a result.

I understand the frustrations - they are one of the biggest teams in the sport and, for Brits, THE team that should be able to go head to head with the likes of Ferrari and Merc (the current incarnation of Mercedes is the old BAR Honda/Brawn team, of course, but under different ownership!) - but that's precisely why they had to do something different, stop buying engines off of other people and become themselves a factory team again. It will take time to get back to the front but given everything we know about Ron, the team, Honda, the drivers and the fan base I really can't see who would seriously bet against them doing it.

Pathetic, Haven't they done this before? Spitting dummies out all the time because they haven't got a winning car. McLaren are in a far worse predicament and I don't see the same threat. It's funny they don't complain about how the top teams get the majority of the cash flow either, which is half the reason teams go bust or simply can't compete.

I still have the old sky dish on the wall so I bought a decoder and connected it to the dish a few years ago. I tuned it to the old astra and I can now get lots of European channels, my wife wanted so that she can watch her German channels.

When F1 is not on the BBC I turn the tv on and go to the RTL Channel, if I don't want to listen to the German commentators, which is mostly rubbish at times, they never get excited, I then get radio 5 live on the ipad and listen on there, they are 2 or 3 seconds behind the actual race but it is ok.

That is an appalling error. What a complete cock up.

Hamilton gets a bad press, but my god was Rosberg smug. What a poor winner. Hamilton, by contrast, congratulated Rosberg and Vettel, accepted that it's a team sport and they win and lose together and was positive about the next race. He's a class act compared to his team mate.

MalteseFalcon 25-05-2015 00:54

Re: Formula 1 2015 Season thread

That's as maybe, but like I've been saying for a year Hamilton needs to look in the mirror and ask why not just one, but three of his teammates have fallen out with him. Leaving aside the fact that I don't like him, and have made no secret of that, but you could argue jealousy with Alonso, being a 2 time World Champion expecting to be #1 driver but being treated as an equal to Hamilton. However when Button and Rosberg also have a problem with Hamilton, then Hamilton needs to look at his attitude, and the way he behaves.

Since he dropped his dad as manager, his ego has gotten bigger and bigger, and I am surprised that Mercedes can even find a helmet to fit over his ludicrous hairstyle and big head. Hamilton fans, bash me all you want but you have to agree that there is no coincidence for 3 teammates of Hamilton to have problems with him.

SnoopZ 25-05-2015 01:17

Re: Formula 1 2015 Season thread

3 team mates? Alonso brought it on himself as Hamilton beat him, Button doesn't have a problem with him as far as I know and as for Rosberg he is just hurt as he loses more.

Nothing wrong the way Lewis behaves in my opinion, and I am not a fanboy of any driver.

Hamilton gets a bad press, but my god was Rosberg smug. What a poor winner. Hamilton, by contrast, congratulated Rosberg and Vettel, accepted that it's a team sport and they win and lose together and was positive about the next race. He's a class act compared to his team mate.

Yes l could not believe what was happening but its the way you come out of it which will define someone and Hamilton came out of it yesterday just like a champion should.

A. I doubt he cares whether his team mate likes him.

B. Alonso didn't like being beaten by him, neither does Rosberg. Button is actually only ever complimentary.

Makes interesting reading.

Under the deal Mercedes would be recognised as the official engine supplier of Red Bull, but Aston Martin would become a partner and have branding on the cars.

@Mark.. Get over it, we all know you don't like Hamilton but he will race and probably win races whether you like him or not, all you're doing is turning the thread into a one man "I hate Hamilton soapbox"

It's interesting reading but I can't see Red Bull as a comfortable customer team of MercAMG.

Fuming after today. Maybe the rain makes it moot but today was a serious chance to beat Merc fair and square and Williams bottled it. After Austria last year I thought maybe some lessons might have been learnt. Apparently not.

Strange one this. bit disappointing to see and at first glance you instantly see money but two seventy plus blokes, can't really see them caring about the financial incentive if it even exists anymore. Assuming both have kids, you could actually see the Fangio name back in F1 at some point.

Looks like it could be a plan to make Vettel the winner, after all it was the Italian GP. 0.3psi surely is not that serious to disqualify the winner like some are calling for.

SnoopZ 06-09-2015 17:07

Re: Formula 1 2015 Season thread

Both the Mercedes drivers had low tyre pressure in the same tyre.

Hamilton's left-rear tyre found to be 0.3psi under required mark.
Rosberg's same tyre 1.1psi below.

http://www.eurosport.co.uk/formula-1...17/story.shtml

The tyres got tested before the race so if it failed why allow them to race?

That settles it then. :)

"The stewards have determined that the tyres were at the right pressure when they were attached to the cars," says Ted Kravitz who now has the official verdict from the FIA.

Mercedes have rejected Red Bull for their engines next year, so there best bet is to secure Ferrari engines.
