But didn`t I read on here somewhere that virgin also add a couple of quid on for themselves?

for sports yes think so not sure if they did that with the £7 HD premium charge though

It is a very good deal as it's only £40 more than the Bein sports service i use.

ps i think a lot of you will be very disappointed Tuesday a 3rd source has now said the Skysports hd channels aren't launching this week they will be here before the new season.
I really hope they are wrong.

Yes, well they are not listed for Virgin in the TV magazines, and given the lead in time, you would have thought the channel numbers would be there. So I'm not optimistic it is going to be this week, but wouldn't rule it out.

The contract was signed the evening before the channels launched. I got a call at 22:15 to say "go".

I don't doubt that the contract was signed when you say it was, Spiderplant, but the sneaking suspicion I had was that there was already a gentleman's agreement between VM and BT that the channel would be made available. That's not to say either that there weren't further discussions taking place over the detail, based on how many people were subscribing to BT and VM trying to push down the asking price right up until the last minute.

Obviously, I don't know the precise detail because I was not involved in the discussions and don't know anyone with inside knowledge. However, you may recall that there were indications from VM that BT Sport was coming and VM had to take down information quite quickly after putting them up on our TV screens. There are a number of posts about this on the Forum that were added at around about that time.

It was always clear in my mind that VM were going for a Setanta-type deal and it was only a question of the price.

I flipping hope the HD channels launch this week in time for the German F1 GP.

Re: Coming Soon to Virgin TV (2014) Vol. 3

Again, TV listing magazines are done weeks even months in advance and any short notice things will not make it to the issue unless they deem it a necessity. And not only that, with only a provisional launch date they probably wouldn't have them for the week coming. And even if they do launch on Tuesday morning, the likelihood is the channel numbers won't show up until the following week's TV listing magazines are out.

I think I've just seen the catch for me in the Sky Sports season ticket. It looks like you have to be on one of their new packages and that means losing the discounts I've picked up over the years so actually wouldn't be any better off.

Unless you can get the season ticket on an old bundle?

If you look carefully at what the Sports Season ticket ad says, it states that you can get all 6 Sky Sports channels 2 (TWO) in HD and NOT 5.

That's my point. If the remaining sports channels were available on VM on 15/07 then why not wait two more days and then advertise the sports season ticket saying that you can get all 6 sky sports channels in HD??

Because they are NOT launching on the 15 perhaps??

I wondered that too neilo as I'm on the old Essential Family Collection with loyalty discounts which I'm happy with.

My Point still stands. Why not wait to advertise the Sky Sports Season Ticket until the arrival of the remaining Sky Sports HD channels? Just thought it would have made more sense, not to mention the ad would be stating the fact that VM would now have all 6 sports channels in HD!

It's a valid point put because sky are doing a new campaign, VM would be silly not to. I think they can't say they have the 6 HD channels because it would be false advertising as they don't have the channels at the moment. I'm sure it will change when we get them but officially, ofcom rules are very strict.

That's just the point you and I know that. so why not wait is what i'm saying....

i'm saying they are not waiting because we are not getting those channels on the 15th???? If we are why not wait.

Never mind guess i'll just wait lol;)

I noticed that too. Another (unlikely) scenario is that the cheaper up front price reflects the fact that only two HD channels will be available with this new package.

Does this new pre payment sports season ticket work out cheaper than getting the Sky Sports channels in the conventional way via Sky themselves?

Yeah i'm confused by it too? so if i call up VM and say "take off sky sports from my monthly subscription" and i then pay up front £150 i get it for a year at no extra cost??? Seems decent since it costs over 300 quid per year if you pay it normally if i'm reading it right?

If you have Sky Sports with HD then currently over a year you are paying at least £400 plus Vince so its definitely a big saving but we have to be wary of that catch that's hidden away somewhere.

You'll get Sky sports for 10 months at no extra cost if you pay the £150 in advance after that you would then either have to cancel SS for the 2 months the footy is off or pay the full price

Anyone have any news on the app? it says we can watch sky sports on skysports.com how will we be able to sign in as we dont have a sky ID? Save over 40% on Sky Sports and watch every Barclays Premier League game live this season. Get all 6 Sky Sports channels with 2 available in HD – plus BT Sport, ESPN and Eurosport, also available in HD. Sky Sports 5 also launches in SD and HD on 12th August.

All you have to do is add a 10-month Sports Season Ticket for £150 upfront to any of our Big Bundles. Or add Sky Sports to your bundle from £27.25 a month.

Questions indeed, currently weighing up the best option, drop from VIP and lose movies etc?? need to sit and work out the savings and whether it is worth losing movies and telco for what you actually save.

Am I right in thinking in sports is discounted in the top package anyhow?

So sports season ticket questions:

1) why only 2 SS HD channels? Is that just before the others go live or is that all you get?
2) do you have to have one of the new big bundles?
3) will it automatically cancel at the end or will you go straight on to pay monthly SS?

Answers on a postcard...

1) At the time of posting they could only offer the 2 HD channels, I'm sure that will update tomorrow. By the way, you still need to pay the extra £7.00 per month for HD, the £150.00 just covers the SD collection.
2) They told me I could have it with my existing 'Collection' so presumably anyone can, not only those on the new bundles.
3) Don't know to be honest but I would anticipate it will be similar to the line rental saver where they add SS to you monthly bill but it comes up as £0 during the period you've paid in advance. At the end it will stay on and revert to normal charges.

Sports Season Ticket offer
Options
on ‎13-07-2014 18:54

"Get the full range of sports with your Big Bundles We think live sport is better with Virgin Media, especially when you can save over 40% on Sky Sports and watch every Barclays Premier League game live this season. Take our new Sports Season Ticket and you’ll get the full range of sporting favourites: all 6 Sky Sports channels with 2 available in HD – plus BT Sport, ESPN and Eurosport, also available in HD. All you have to do is add a 10-month Sports Season Ticket for £150 upfront to any of our Big Bundles. Or add Sky Sports to your bundle from £27.25 a month."

https://my.virginmedia.com/customer-...on-ticket.html

Whilst this sounds a good deal it also appears to read that the HD bundle is also included in the price as obviously Sky Sports 1&2 are the only ones currently available. Is this correct? £150 up front instead of the £27.25 monthly sub plus the £7 HD sub? If this is the case will Sky Sports 3,4,5, F1 and news all in HD be added automatically as part of the up front bundle?

Here is that Sky Sports story again.

My Virgin insider told me this past weekend:

"I've also just been told the upcoming Sky Sports price increase, surprisingly its less than last year and doesn't affect every customer."

No price list was given

Well done to VM for offering such a great deal and fantastic price savings. It's a shame no-one is praising them, considering the abuse VM take on here for their price increases.

Update 3:
-Sky1 and Sky1 HD will move to Virgin Channels 109 and 110.
-All Sky Sports SD channels will move to their new channels numbers.

Update 4:
-Sky2 and Sky Livingit and Pick will move to Virgin Channels 121, 122 and 123.
-Sky Sports 1 HD and Sky Sports 2 HD will move to their new channels numbers.

Update 5:
-Challenge +1 will move to Virgin Channel 180.

Update 6:
-Sky Living +1 will move to Virgin Channels 140.

After 4am:

Sucks that they're doing this on a Monday night. I know people are gonna be looking forward to watching Raw for the first time in HD, but they'll have to wait another week.

Still. 5 Sky Sports channels in HD, plus BT Sports 1 and 2 in HD thrown in for free? Can't complain, can you?

Yes it's an excellent offer Harry, all Sky Sports in HD for equivalent of £22 per month for the season. It's actually cheaper than Sky so a big well done to VM from me 😃

I meant live on TV in HD. WWE's broadcast in HD since 2008, but since Raw is aired on Sky Sports 3, Virgin Media viewers will finally be able to watch it every week in HD.

You've got a point about people missing it, though. Raw frequently goes past 4am, so if they reboot the boxes around that time, or worse earlier, they'll miss the ending of the show or their recordings might get messed up.

But yeah, it's regularly available in all corners of the internet, so it isn't too much of a big deal if that happens.

Have to admit, that as nice as WWE in HD will be I am still more excited about the golf. Other things like fishing though, do we really need to see THAT in HD? Is there anyway to find viewing figures for what's been aired on SKY Sports?

Why shouldn't it be shown in HD?

Don't watch it myself, it's not much better than watching paint dry in my opinion, but I can't make out why you'd grumble about it being in HD!

The sooner everything is in HD, the better!

I assume that this is to encourage take up of Sky Sports, which is relatively low on VM.

I'm surprised that one doesn't have to take out a new long contract to get the sports discount, as they are obviously using this as a way to keep customers following their loss of rights. They can hardly offer broadband free for two years on VM :D

Possible £2.00 price rise? The bit I've highlighted bold is interesting though!

Sky recently increased the amount it charges Virgin Media for its channels, so the cost of the Sky Sports Collection and Sky Sports and Movies Collection is going up by £2 a month (although Virgin says this is less than Sky's £2.50 increase for the same packages). However, customers taking additional Sky channel packages will not be affected by the price rise, which comes into effect from September 1st.

A conversation I had with VM on twitter today.

@virginmedia Rumour is that there will be major EPG changes for the Sky channels. How does this affect current series links on my Tivo box?

Hiya Barrie, this isn't something we're aware of to be honest but series links should be updated ...

So you aren't launching Sky Sports 3, 4 and F1 HD tomorrow and moving all the channels?

We've no news just yet, but keep an eye on http://goo.gl/BVLJWx for the latest :) Have a fab night! MKa
