The BBC i-Player will be showing programmes on catch up for 4 weeks soon, so these things can change.

[QUOTE=Media Boy;35661744]The only info I have seen was from before Christmas coming with an 'Do Not Post' order from an Virgin Media Viewer.

They also said: Do not post as it is not for public consumption until it has been made public and if you do post it will just simply not happen.

No confirmed news from any insiders since 2013.

---------- Post added at 14:32 ---------- Previous post was at 14:29 ----------

Really and people take notice of what you post -----SAD so SAD

I object to that. Of course we don't take notice of what he posts. Most of the time they don't make any sense anyway. :D

Yes, I do hope that this is extended to Catch Up TV or the iplayer version on VM. Will be much more convenient.

Oh that's good news, the TiVo version of I player should mean we benefit from that.

Are the V+ and TiVo versions of the BBC I-player the same, or different?

They are different, of course, because the V+ does not have its own internet connection or ability to run apps.

V+ shares with the V HD the old VOD delivery for BBC OD.

This would be a new carriage deal so you may expect History HD or CI HD to arrive with that.

However A&E are in this country in partnership with Sky which seems to be what most of the withheld non-sky channels seem to be apart of.

Clearly the two can't reach a viable commercial agreement at this time , people have been arguing on here for ages that Sky are withholding these channels but frankly I really doubt that's true.

BT has managed to reach an agreement to carry History HD , Nat Geo Wild HD , C&I HD and UPC Ireland have carried these for a while now.

I think those 2 could arrive too around same time as LifetimeHD. Natgeowild HD is supposed to launch on VM within the first quarter of 2014 but take that with a pinch of salt.
As far as i'm aware from info i've been given VM are going to concentrate more on faster broadband and more on demand content and providers.

Some will be yes such as Lovefilm, but VM are also set to get major studios onboard for on demand content to be included in the XL pack. It's unknown yet who will get onboard but rumours are CW, CBS, NBC, ABC (pending Sky deal), Sothpark studios.

A lot of that content is already available on VM spread over 4oD , Demand 5 , Sky OD. ABC already have older boxsets available via Lovefilm , Sky , Netflix not sure about VM however they had loads of ABC content when I was last with them. What on earths this pending Sky deal you talk of ?

ABC OD is currently part of Sky OD now and isn't on VM anymore.

Aye this would be good. But i bet you anything sky will hear about it and bid for all this content and then create a channel called "sky lol" or something and not give VM access to it. Spiteful sky isnt it.

Thanks, but I didn't mean the method of delivery, I meant content wise! Is that different?

I do know that the online iplayer is different to the V+ version, so if the TiVo does not have it's own version and simply uses the same online version, content will obviously different.

Sky need to start making friends rather than enemies nowadays i think. BT Sport have already shown that Sky can be beaten and as far as i know Liberty Global are no small fish either.
It's going to be a very interesting 12 months i think.

Indeed BT Sports have shown that Sky can be taken on but what they have to watch is that they don't deploy some of Sky's nefarious underhand tactics and don't go the same way in the process.

Market capitalisation - the value of a company (No. of shares x price per share converted into £ where appropriate)
21st Century Fox £45.45bn
BT £30.14bn
Liberty Global £21.48bn
BSkyB £13.19bn
TalkTalk £2.80bn

Aye I agree but the people running sky may be too stupid, ignorant or spiteful to realise the rules are changing. There has always been just one way for sky to do things. Whether they can adjust will be interesting

I think we can say that BSkyB are anything but stupid or ignorant. They have a history of being ahead of the game and I suspect they will adapt to the changing market in a way that ensures profit margins remain as they are or increase, hopefully that change will see the consumer benefit greatly.

I agree; Sky may irritate VM users by withholding channels we want etc., but they are nobody's fool, and have innovated a lot of things TV wise.

I disagree, I don't think BT Sport has really scratched the surface for them,if it had they wouldn't of recently had a price rise. Sky have always been ahead of their game and when it looks like they are loosing they claw it back with something else. They've managed to create a channel which still has massive demand 3 years later, well that's worked well.

My dream scenario is i become a billionaire and buy premiership rights the next time theyre up and offer my channel for 1p a month. Imagine sky and BT's faces.

"But...but you're not milking customers of money...."
"yeah"
"but...what do we do now?"
"you fold, shut down and never hang around here to rob people of the simple pleasure of sport"

I'd call it "VinceRooney Sports". The sport channel for gentlemen.

The EU has said in the past that no broadcaster can own the rights to the EPL.

That why Setanta Sports and ESPN got some live rights.

WWE still have not agreed a new deal with Sky rumours are surfacing that BT Sport are going to bid.

Got a link for that info ?

I've certainly not seen that info , WWE network in the USA is bypassing the cable/satellite companies to launch a digital version available on PC/Laptop , Roku , Android , IOS , PS3/4 , Xbox etc according to wikipedia they also say that DirecTV in the US issued a statement saying they were re-evaluating whether to continue carrying WWE PPV events because the PPV events would also be available on WWE network once it launches.

It would certainly appear nothing has been decided as of yet , I guess they've a few options strike another deal with Sky , try and find a new broadcast partner or go it alone via online and connected devices.

Funny enough A friend of mine on the train mentioned this above and something about using Netflix as a possible portal(?) Certainly he was suggesting WWE now considering bypassing suppliers and doing things direct with the consumer in essence IPTV especially with PPV

Or people were just plain wrong? ;)

With regard to Sky Atlantic, I was rooting for them to be right, so disappointed. But there are now a couple of other ways to get HBO content.

Re VOD, you're correct, but it seems to me that when they did do it, they went to town with it and are now leading VM in this area?

People have been able to get Netflix without Tivo, ever since it launched in the UK, and many people have.

Just because you have been reluctant to add another, inexpensive box to your TV, doesn't mean other people are. Also, many people don't need to add another box because many of their existing equipment, if bought within the last couple of years already has Netflix.

So, in my view, VM having Netflix doesn't count, especially as it's not free with the VM service, which is the case with other OD content.

No link but has come from the same source that told me about SYFY etc dropping down a package amongst other stuff. So far they have been 95% correct.
Also as MB reported a new CSC deal has been signed with VM i mentioned last year that Bliss etc would be coming this year. This info was from the same source so i have no reason to doubt them.

Well, actually, it's both. Customers on the lower packages have to PPV for their Music On Demand by this method, and the clue is in the title.

I still say that the Netflix app on the TIVO box is a major advance and provides us with something Sky hasn't got. It has massively improved our choice of programming and it will only get better with time.

As for the argument that you can get TIVO by other means is concerned, it is mainly younger people and the better off that have this equipment. Most people don't have it, and for them, this is a really good development. At £5.99 per month, this is incredible value for money and puts Picturebox into the shade.

You can get a box that will stream Netflix for £33:

http://www.amazon.co.uk/WD-TV-Play-M...cp_computers_0

And there may even be cheaper ones about. You can pick up Bluray players (to replace your standard DVD player) for often as low as £50 which include Netflix.

And as for 'mainly younger people', that simply isn't the case; I can testify to that. And loads of older people have tablets, mostly all of which are capable of getting Netflix.

As you say, there are loads of ways; many using equipment you already have, or by buying new kit that can be bought inexpensively.

Old Boy doesn't seem to get that. There is no denying that Netflix on Tivo is useful, though limited in it's potential, but it is by no means essential.

I have no knowledge that it is coming and no knowledge that it isn't. I don't know.

An Virgin Insider told me in November 2013 that News 18 is coming to Virgin Media but is still to be given an confirmed launch date and channel number.

Old Boy doesn't seem to get that. There is no denying that Netflix on Tivo is useful, though limited in it's potential, but it is by no means essential.

I do understand what you are saying, passingbat, but I think you are making the mistake of assuming that you and the people you know are typical in this respect.

The majority of the population certainly do not have this equipment.

Well, yes, and just because there's been a delay doesn't mean it isn't coming. Prepare for surprise very soon, Dave ;)

What, they don't have a DVD player that is very easily and cheaply swapped out for one that includes Netflix, and also has the added advantage in that it plays Blu Ray discs?

Nearly everyone has a DVD player.

I'm afraid I'd side with PB on this one just look at the vast volume of games consoles that have been sold in the UK Netflix is available on them all so thats Xbox , Xbox One , PS3 , PS4 , Wii its also available on most tablets , smartphones , laptops and many of the popular streaming devices , Blu Ray players and Smart TV's.

Re: Coming soon to Virgin TV 2014

Indeed. The only thing it's not on in our living room is the TV itself and that's only because it's a few years old plasma, nowadays smart TV's are the norm.

It's quite impressive tbh. They've went from something that you had to specifically go out and buy a device to get it on your TV to now being including as standard on practically everything. You'd have a harder time finding new hardware without it than with now.
