I take a tivo to work sometimes to watch my recordings, since the update Planned recordings and Series Links cannot be viewed when not connected to network. I used to be able to manage both on the old software, does this mean they are'nt stored on the box now?

Can confirm that Nottingham NG2 has been updated. Has a quick check before I left the house, found the Netflixs app, noticed most screens had an upgraded format except the help & settings > system info screen for some reason (may be others just not checked) but otherwise looks fine.

Does anyone know if you can look through the Netflix app without being signed up? I wouldn't mind having a look what is on offer before signing up.

I realise their is a month's free trial, but I'm going to optimise that for maximum usage!

Just go to the netflix website nd you can sign up free for your first month.

https://signup.netflix.com/home

Then you can see all they have and test it out.

Hi Stephen

Thanks for the info but, as I said, I realise there is a free trial. I want to sign up to that when I will be around to use it for a full month (I'm thinking around Christmas) to take full advantage before I decide whether to pay!

For now I just wanted to see what the app was like and what is available!

It was mentioned to me by retentions last week (tuesday) , i asked about going up to 60mb bb and i mentioned my 30mb wasn't cutting it with using Netflix on my pc or ps3 amongst other stuff being connected (it was ofcourse cutting it perfectly) she then said 2you've got Netflix on your TiVo now" i mentioned i hadn't had update she put me on hold for a minute then came back and said "it will be completed in the next week and a half" i'm just going by that info for the update rollout although my source has texted me saying more areas get updated tonight and updates will continue all week.

Personally, I hate subtitled shows, and despite Fox blocking the US version of the Bridge coming to the UK (presumably because of the Sky Atlantic remake), because I use Unblockus for Netflix, I saw the US version via Hulu.

Fair enough PB. I feel these remakes just lose everything that is good about the originals.

I found the American re-make of The Killing (for example) to be incredibly cliched, very boring and remarkably predictable in many places and deliberately dumbed down. The characters were poorly portrayed and I felt no emotion for them. Overall I felt it was just a very, safe as houses, won't offend anyone, run of mill Hollywood movie that was expanded into a overlong TV show. I gave up on it after about 6 episodes.

Over many years there's been substantial cross pollination of film & TV between the US and UK. Some good and some truly awfull, yet the eye of the beholder surely is the mark to use!

I absolutely accept that but the person reporting this has given no detail and hence you cannot accept the pronouncement as fact. It could be many other reasons for this un-described failure.

It got stuck in the starting up cycle and would loop and make the bonging noises. I would guess the update was sent out at around 6.30am as it woke us up. We switched off the box for around 8 hours while at work and still no joy. Engineer out this morning and yes it was Netflix that bricked it. My other Tivo box is working fine. Thank you. Sorry to doubt but so many people come on here and make claims with little or no evidence. You never hear from them again when questioned, unlike yourself who returned and explained.

Excellent job, Virgin Media, for giving this customer such a quick reaction to resolving this issue.

PS I too have the new software level - it's excellent.

Granted, accept not a VM issue but Tivo themselves should really do all the screens we can see, not just those we most commonly go to, which was the priority I guess.

Other than that, the new software update seems fine and happy with it.

Yes, got it this morning, Spiderplant. Had a quick look before going to work this morning and I'm VERY impressed. Far better to have this choice of content rather than the additional channels Sky have to offer that we don't receive.

Had a quick look also at the planned recordings screen, and this is much better. We now have the PIP on this menu (it used to disappear) and it is a much improved screen.

This has transformed everything, thank you Virgin Media!

Just Sky Atlantic to get now and everything will be complete for me!:):):)

Impressed with the update anyway, quicker and the using the same tuner finally to record following program on same channel is a major result

I have been waiting for this screen since it was released in the US. The old Hiccups screen was a really inefficient way of finding clashes but with the new planned recordings screen it's really easy to see what is actually planned (or not) to record.

I would have been happy enough if we only got this screen in the update but as we've got the "back to back recordings on a single tuner fix" all my bugbears about the system have now gone. For the way I use the box this update is absolutely fantastic.

I've not tried Netflix yet but if the content is similar to LoveFilm I'll probably ditch that and sign up to Netflix as I can only get Lovefilm on one of the TVs (i.e. the Smart TV) but I could use Netflix on both my TVs via the my Tivo boxes.

It is rumoured that Lovefilm will also be added to the TIVO box, but this may not be until later next year.

So you could temporarily ditch Lovefilm, claim your month's free trial on Netflix and have a good taste of what's on there, and then switch back to Lovefilm (or get it in addition to Netflix) when it is rolled out on the TIVO.

There seems to be quite a lot to get your teeth into on Netflix, I must say. I'll take a really good look at this tonight.

It says my area was updated, so i just had a look at the usual channel guide to see if there was any changes to it, ( or EPG ) looks exactly the same as before! Cant see where the update has improved anything, or am i looking in the wrong place??

That was my thinking. If the app does arrive I will probably sign up to lovefilm with a different e-mail and take advantage of another months free trial ;)

At the moment I'm using LoveFilm for the kids films but there's a few series on there I'd be keen on watching either again or for the first time.

Go to the main menu and press "2". That's where most of the visible changes can be seen.

Have you taken a look at your planned recordings? That screen is strikingly different and includes the PIP.

If it is the same as before, try re-booting the box. Some have found that this launches the new update including Netflix.

Anyone know how long Cardiff usually has to wait when it comes to rolling out stuff?

Anyone else noticed that, as well as the TiVo itself being more responsive, the TV Anywhere iPad app is also faster at responding?

This update is fantastic. Functionality, speed, UI, all improved.

Well done VM & TiVo.

The best STB on the market by a mile has just got even better and in our household we are just waiting patiently for our update to arrive.

Ok....why doesn't Parental Controls >>> Lock Apps & Games do anything???

I'm attempting to prevent Netflix from asking me to enter a PIN all the time.

There's no 'locked apps' option, just 'Lock Apps & Games', and it does bugger all here.

The font does seem to have been changed slightly. The channel logos seem smaller too and the clock bigger.

Also noticed on Manage Series Link page that the HD channels names use the HD icon as part of the channel name, so BBC2 HD appears as BBC2 then the HD icon. Would this be useful as part of a HD swap? Hope so.

A reboot should sort it.

Liking this update. Not been following the forum/VM news recently so it was a nice surprise to discover it updating at 2AM this morning.

Tivo is vastly superior at fast forwarding IMO.
