I am not saying I won't get xbox..but I'm considering whether I want this level of distrust to good customers

There's more thieves than good customers though I'm afraid and you have to go with the majority. Signing in once every 24 hours to verify is hardly a massive problem to me as I'm always online anyway, and whilst it will annoy people I can fully understand why they've taken this direction after all the problems concerning the Xbox 360. I'll be honest, there's other ways to stop this but in general 1) Microsoft just can't be bothered to work on heavy security and 2) people will always get around it (even so with the new system just in fewer numbers)

Don't get me wrong this is just for the disc checking, there's likely going to be just as many cheaters and thieves on the new console.

So in general indeed it's a pain for others unless you're like me and signed in constantly anyway. I'd rather it not ship with Kinect though, something I've never used. I don't agree on the whole bring people together via gaming and communication. I simply don't use any of the Xbox 360's communication features and just play with my mates whilst in a call on skype.

What's worse is most of the time it's the game being targeted and not Microsoft. I.e A user steals another user's Xbox Live account to purchase MS points to then use on FIFA. (See FIFA 12/13 Xbox live account thefts) nothing to do with the new disc checking system in general but these type of people will take free stuff if they can. A store and online store are two different things, You can't search everyone in a store because it just takes too long and there'd be an uproar getting felt up everytime you wanted to purchase something, this system is online, no one is being searched in a physical way and there's no long queue backed up to the door to get out.

Now let's be real and sensible here, aimed at the guy in the article talking about trust and relationships. He really expected to be able to do whatever he wishes without it being verified in any way? Take a look at Piracy online, how many would actually be honest about it, what this guy is saying is incredibly stupid.

In fairness it's due to the punishment or lack of. It's usually a simple console ban or in many cases absolutely nothing if someone steals an account or MS points. So in cases they steal someone's credit card (Can't see the actual card details but can still make purchases associated with Microsoft) and buy whatever they please. Credit card theft that goes unpunished really.

There's also exploits to get Xbox Live completely free due to a flaw, naturally I'm not going to be linking anything in this thread because it's theft of services and illegal. Microsoft simply console ban these people rather than chasing them with the court's so it's easy to see why people still do it -_-

An example of the FIFA issues.

Quote:

A string of hacked Xbox 360 accounts over the last several months has raised questions about Xbox Live security. What is happening is that hackers are getting login information from somewhere, logging into other people's Xbox Live accounts, and using the stolen account to buy Microsoft Points and then buy items (usually FIFA 12 Ultimate Team card packs).. Then they can log out of the stolen account, sign into their own account, and that content they bought with the stolen account will be available for their own account.

This works because of Microsoft's form of DRM (Digital Rights Management). Xbox Live downloads are tied to the account (Gamertag) that downloaded them, but also the system they are first downloaded on. Any account can use content tied to that system. If the system breaks, however, only the account that downloaded it originally will be able to use it later, so it is a bit of a risk. Not as much of a risk as it used to be, since new Xbox 360 systems are much more reliable than older models, but still a risk. Of course, hackers likely don't care if the stuff they stole and got for free stops working if their system breaks.
That's how pants the current DRM system is.

Reading between the lines of Microsofts latest statement on its new DRM policy
"Hey, buy the Xbox One, a console where you can rent games for £89.99!!"
(Yeah, that price is just a placeholder on Amazon UK, but why would Amazon choose a figure almost double the price of 360 games?)

Lots of questions, and i don't think we will find out all the facts until it is released. I am seriously considering the PS4 again as the Xbox feels like big brother from everything i read, hopefully we will know more on Monday when E3 arrives.

Because it means that if they put a cheap placeholder price that ends up being less than the actual price then it means they have to abide by it. If they put it so expensive then they can just lower it to the correct price.

Yes that is going to be a problem for alot of people.

What they should have done is do the 24hrs thing IF the disc isn't in the drive, but if you put the disc in the drive then you can freely play it in offline mode, but there has been no mention of being able to play in offline mode.

Hopefully Sony won't go down the same route as MS seem to be going.

We may find out more tomorrow from both consoles.

The switching between games is impressive.

Live Streaming partnership with Twitch. No more £100+ capture cards.

Indeed but it's been evidently clear over the months that publishers are aligning themselves with Microsoft and we know that might be solely down to the DRM on the new console but still.

Halo 5, and Spartan up then.

Might shut all them Sony fan boys up. To say they got the publishers of MGS to finally come to MS as well as new devs as well. Sony need to pull off something fantastic IMO to win.

Lauch is November. $499 in US and £429 in UK

Going to put £100 a month away until November. Would just pay it now in a lump sum but if something comes up I'd leave myself with zilch until payday. I usually own both consoles too but I won't be touching a PS4 until the year after. I live rent free with a high wage and even I can't pay near enough £1000 of my wage out in two transactions so it's going to be even harder for those paying bills and such.

I wonder what the PS4 will cost... £429 for an Xbox One is actually slightly higher than the launch price of the PS3.

If Sony comes out with a lower price, plus doesn't have all the regular online check-ins & other restrictions of the Xbox One, it'll be laughing... especially as the PS4 already has the edge when it comes to power.

It has to be a lower price.

If Sony come out with a higher price than that then it's just ludicrous considering with the Xbox you're also paying for the Kinect.

There were a few games in there that could be the ''winner of E3'' similar to how Watch Dogs stole the show last year.

Project Spark may do just that.

The consoles are only going to get better as they age. Remember the launch titles of the 360/PS3 when compared to today's end-console games?

This could be the year FIFA falls to PES with no one but itself to blame. The Fox engine may just save us from the farce that is FIFA and EA.

Sony may have learnt their lesson with the PS3, although it soild well at laucnh sales dropped enough that they lowered the price by just under £100 and release the 40gb version at amost half the launch price

Is an Xbox one thread so can't really start this debate here, I'll explain after they're both shown and my reasons. Basically it's the consoles not doing PES any justice.. or FIFA for that matter, I own both for PC and I was shocked after being a FIFA fanboy for years to discover how much fun I'd have with something as simple as PES  FIFA actively asked people via a VOIP session with Romaly Broad (Has since quit)what they'd like to see in FIFA 13 most of these people were naturally skilled players and having a nice little record for myself about 10 or so of us from PC also got an invite. A similar thing has also occured with Konami and they actually decided to meet the people they'd invited at a location close to them. I have details of what went on at both (Wasn't present at the Konami one, credit goes to a fellow FIFA..player) and will try to disclose in as much detail as I can shortly. off to work for the night but will do a write up on my laptop and post when I can.

Price is not bad, some of the games especially Ryse look incredible.

Considering Kinect comes with the console I think it's a great price.

The 40GB was £300 originally, compared to £425 for the 60GB.

But yeah, I'd hope that Sony has learnt its lesson...

Yeah, that add-on that people realised after 6 months was a great dust collector.

That wasn't an add-on, that was the Wii :D

Sony can make such a march on this next generation if they:
  • Confirm that used games will work on the PS4
  • Confirm it will all work fine offline
  • Speak about indie developers at their E3 press conference
  • Price the console around the £300 mark

I can't help but feel Microsoft have made some serious mistakes with the One and it's just a case of it Sony will be aggressive and capitalise.

Well 3 out of 4 ain't bad.

Never mind, 4 out of 4?

nstokes 11-06-2013 07:32

So the PS4 does not include the camrea which can be brought in addition for £44 so its just over £30 less than Xbox One to me thats not bad for the Xbox One

I love all the jumped up Reddit and rest of the interweb crowd claiming Sony have ended the Xbox One.

Only to then find out it's the most pre-ordered

and now

Sony will be playing catch up again. Publishers will align themselves with Microsoft more than Sony for obvious and yes maybe dirty reasons in our eyes but it's just plain genius and good business.

A lot of this stuff is only just being revealed. I think Microsoft have messed up bad with the amount of restrictions and asking you to pay more for them.

I've had the xbox 360 since day one, I've never had a PS2 or PS3 and from what I've seen so far with the restrictions in place for the new xbox I think I will be opting for the PS4 this time around. Sorry M$, the price isn't a factor but you've over done it with the DRM I'm afraid.

Yeah. I had a PS2, then an Xbox 360 as my main console (got PS3 for Last of Us recently) and I wanted to keep Xbox going purely because I have all the achievements and stuff but even the cost I would swallow but not the used game and compulsory internet connection thing. I can't believe how badly Microsoft have handled this.

It's bad for us but it's clever for them as explained above. Publishers will be jumping at the chance to make more money.. hint at EA.

There's no true winner though in terms of sales.. there never is, both consoles will ship an equal amount give or take a few million just like the current gen. Microsoft will get a head start granted but Sony will have a better launch this time round. Each have their exclusives and whilst I preferred the Xbox exclusives there's someone else out there that liked the PS ones. In summary both consoles will sell and that's that. The jumped up hype and arguments will continue around the world but at the end of it both companies will make millions and millions.

So let's get onto something that isn't going round in a circle and that we can all enjoy... again not EA, their conference was pants.

Ubisoft! the best at E3 by a mile, The Division and Watch Dogs just look sensational. AC IV: Black Flag. Awesome lineup, the map in the crew just looks truly amazing and the customization...

I did with the Xbox 360 and PS3 and ended up selling the PS3 as I never used it. I felt Xbox was the best console for me to use online and that was the biggest factor for me.

Cancel that battle between PES and FIFA, FIFA takes it for another year after Konami announce PES won't release on Next Gen this year. Here's to another year of bug riddled, disconnecting for EA server's and 'Impact Engine' magic.

They might do but it's not a given. Microsoft should ditch the used game thing right now. I certainly think Sony could do quite well at the expense of Microsoft.

They could yet do that, if Microsoft went and matched the PS4's price and removed all restrictions I think a Nuclear war may break out.

Nah, I believe Microsoft will pull the plug on the restrictions soon, It's believable that they assumed Sony would follow suit if they did it first and it just didn't happen. so it's a 50/50 gamble.

Publishers could favour MS in hopes of making more money, there's also the possibility that the Xbox could flop and the PS4 would prosper meaning Publishers aren't on the greener grass anyway.

New 360 and PS4 on shopping list though no hurry to buy but 1 won't be the majority of our game buys are preowned and we sell on the new stuff quite often unless its really good . Can't see the 1 ever coming in the door unless Sky are going to use it as a set top box ;)

Publishers could favour MS but retailers would push PS4 IMO.

The Xbox one will now be £299 I bet ya and the restrictions dropped. They have months to sort this and most likely if they have a brain between them have policies in place to implement the change quickly to the software

Was so eager to grab the xbox yesterday and now I'm feeling like I don't want either, the only thing that attracted me were the exclusives. I may just be better off forking out the extra few hundred for a GTX 780 and just sticking to PC.

Nope, i still want the Xbox One. Only £36 more than PS4 :)

Re: The Xbox One Thread

It'll be months after release of both consoles before i make up my mind though, to see which 1 has the better quality games, if they have a difference.

What has put me off the X1 is the DRM, kinect plugged in, used games restriction, Need to connect to the internet once every 24hrs.

Damien 11-06-2013 11:34

Re: The Xbox One Thread

I might pre-order a One in case they get rid of all the restrictions but otherwise it's PS4

SnoopZ 11-06-2013 12:00

Re: The Xbox One Thread

Yes if MS got rid of the restrictions and the games quality was as good as the PS4 if there was a difference, then i would get an X1.

However i can't see them doing that.
