Ha, cheers :)
Read all the way from there - the rest of the thread is scattered with links and info. I also highly recommend joining the official forum - the community there is (generally) very helpful, and can be invaluable when starting out. |

Xbox One full retail price announced: £29.99 :)

Bloody bargain given the size and scope of the game. |
Re: Elite: Dangerous
Just done my first contract from advice on the link, so this is the best and quickest way to make money rather than just regular trading? :)
|
Re: Elite: Dangerous
You can make millions of credits per hour from normal trading... but it requires high volumes of goods, and so requires a ship with a nice big cargo capacity.
Trading rare (yellow) goods, rather than normal goods, is a good way to make a lot of money early on in the game, as the profit per tonne is very high - but rather than needing a large cargo capacity you instead have to put up with long journeys to maximise the profit (e.g. 150ly). Below that, doing Bulletin Board contracts to trade or smuggle goods can give you a good start. |
Re: Elite: Dangerous
What is the best and easiest way to work out which station will sell or buy your goods as i feel i just endup flying backwards and forwards looking for the goods i need to buy or sell for contracts?
|
Re: Elite: Dangerous
I think that you're better off - at least to start with - ignoring the Bulletin Board missions that require *you* to actually source the goods first (double arrows) and concentrate on the ones that supply you with the goods in the first place (single arrow for courier missions, single arrow with a cargo canister for delivery missions).
https://www.reddit.com/r/EliteOne/co...on_typesicons/ Doing the missions where you have to find the goods first, or doing standard trading, means looking into the imports/exports and economy types for different systems... There are lots of online tools for this, but they're not that great at the moment as we're not yet in the same galaxy as PC/Mac players so aren't sharing the trade data. Try from here for some tips and links for rare goods trading and other stuff: http://www3.britxbox.co.uk/forums/vi...rt=90#p1564869 |
Re: Elite: Dangerous

Re: Elite: Dangerous
This game takes forever to go somewhere when starting out!!!
I accepted a contract to go somewhere but i can't do a jump so i am now 2.2d from it using Supercruise, not sure how long that will take! May have to abandon the contract. At what point after starting the game do i upgrade my ship, spend all my time in solo mode and hardly ever get shot at and have 110K in the bank, and which ship should be my next purchase so i find it easier to travel between systems using hyperspace? edit. Looks like i will run out of fuel doing this so i will have to abandon! |
Re: Elite: Dangerous
Why couldn't you jump to where you needed to go?
If your destination is too far for a single jump, you can plot a course and do it in multiple jumps (obviously check the fuel requirement!). Always check that you can do a mission before accepting it. The Hauler is a good, cheap ship for small volume trading. It works well for the rare goods trading I mentioned before. I went from a Sidewinder to a Hauler and traded rare goods until I had the money for a Cobra... Coriolis is an excellent site for mocking up ship builds, and checking prices and stats: http://coriolis.io/ |

I bought the Hauler this afternoon and keep doing missions that pay 2K-12K. I did have a problem too where i had to fly to a system to locate some salvage then return it, but when i got there, there was no one in sight and nothing floating around that i could see, i was not really sure what i was meant to do so gave up? |
Re: Elite: Dangerous
Salvage can be found at weak signal sources.
Before the latest update (GPP3), it was always illegal. GPP3 added legal salvage - I'm not sure if it still appears at weak signal sources though, as I've not played since before the update. Salvage has to be picked up using the cargo scoop (or special limpets). There's a button combo to activate it, and it can also be activated in the system panel on the right. |
Re: Elite: Dangerous
I was looking for weak signal source with my eyes as there was nothing on the radar, is that the correct way to play?
|
Re: Elite: Dangerous
If it's there, it'll show up in the target/nav panel on the left.
If you jump to the system in question, and just fly to a starport, you should usually see some on the way - it'll appear in the target/nav panel while in Supercruise. (That's how it used to be, anyway.) |
Re: Elite: Dangerous
The system in question didn't have a starport, I did get a message saying someone had found me in the com's but I didn't know what to do next as no one on radar. I will get hang of it!
|
Re: Elite: Dangerous
Ah, you probably just have to fly around in supercruise then and hope for a WSS.
As for that message: If you have a mission, you will often find someone tries to contact you saying they have been sent to find you / they have something worth your while, etc. etc. They will appear in the list of contacts shortly after the first message, and will contact you again asking you to follow their wake (which requires a Frame Shift Wake Scanner). If you follow them, they will (apparently) ask you to give them whatever it is you're delivering/couriering instead of taking it to the original destination. You may get more money for it, but it will mean failing the mission and so damaging your rep with the faction you were supposed to be working for. I've never bothered with it, myself. |
Re: Elite: Dangerous
Waiting on the PS4 version. May sell Project Morpheus to me.
I genuinely can't justify a gaming PC. If I were to buy one it would be a ridiculous spec and cost upwards of £2k as the last one did. |
Re: Elite: Dangerous
Quote:
You'd be hard pressed to build anything upwards of £2k without deliberately buying overpriced components that are actually slower than ones half the price. You can certainly play Elite on maximum settings with a gaming PC costing less than £750. |

What are the best small upgrades I can do to improve my shield power and laser strength as if I lose the ship again I will be broke? Lol |

It is a little M-ITX system, with a MSI Z97I Gaming ACK, Intel I5 4440, 8Gb 1600mhz and a MSI GTX750Ti, 23" 1080p monitor and I already had a XFX 550w psu, 240Gb Corsair Force 3 SSD and 2x WD 3Tb hdd's. I could have built it for less if I went with AMD but I wanted M-ITX build and there are barely any decent M-ITX AMD boards. |
Re: Elite: Dangerous
For some reason the ship i was shooting turned out to be a System Authorities ship and i now have a 10K bounty on my head and it says it lasts 7 Days, is it possible to pay this off or am i stuck as being Wanted for that duration, or is it easier to get destroyed by them and if so will this reset the bounty to not wanted?
|
Re: Elite: Dangerous

You could try just avoiding the system where you have the bounty (if it's just for a minor faction in that specific system), although if someone in another system scanned you with a Kill Warrant Scanner they would see that you have a bounty there. I'm not sure how it works with dying. I *think* that if you die, the wanted status is cleared and the bounty converts to a legacy fine that you can then pay off, but I'm not sure. Doing that also means having to rebuy your ship (preferably via the insurance). |
Re: Elite: Dangerous
I have progressed since my latest few posts, now have over 2 million in the bank( pocket change for some i know) and have upgraded the lasers and shield strength on my Cobra.
As for the 7 day bounty, it was just easier to get killed and buy the Cobra again from insurance then the WANTED tag is gone. |
Re: Elite: Dangerous
Right, where do I start then? I've been told to hold off buying this as I'll get the base game for free if I buy the expansion later? I've dropped money on a few like this but apparently falling short by some distance.

I have been playing the preview on the X1 for a while now and it's FULL release is scheduled for tomorrow the 6th October, the price is currently £24.99 on the X1. ---------- Post added at 20:11 ---------- Previous post was at 20:00 ---------- I guess you mean PC and it does look like if you buy the £39.99 pack you do get all elite content as well, so looks like it will be cheaper. |
Re: Elite: Dangerous
Well i am now running the official release version on the Xbox One, it wouldn't log in the first time but the second it eventually did.
Edit Scrap that server error, i guess they're being hammered. |
Re: Elite: Dangerous
ED has now left Preview and had its full public retail release for Xbox One :)

Re: Elite: Dangerous
The game just carried on from where it left off with same ship and money, didn't really notice any difference apart from when you come out of Super Cruise you are still moving very fast towards the planet and have to pull up, before i think you were stopped? Another is possibly quicker directional movement in my Cobra but that maybe placeboo and a loading indicator.
|
Re: Elite: Dangerous
Anyone else finding the Bulletin Board is slow and not logging in on the X1 version the first time you try it?
|
Re: Elite: Dangerous
Yup...
https://forums.frontier.co.uk/showthread.php?t=188951 https://forums.frontier.co.uk/showthread.php?t=189017 etc. Apparently there are also problems with starport lights and other things. Perhaps it should have had more time in Preview! |

Got myself a Vulture and put 2 3E G pulse lasers on it and upgraded the power generator and added a shield booster, now i find i can only make jumps of maybe 7ltys, and the only thing i have gained is being able to kill things easily. I know you play alot so you know how it works. So what do i need to do to my Vulture to make it earn me money and how do i go about that as obviously i can't make much money on cargo any longer, currently playing Solo? |
Re: Elite: Dangerous
Conflict Zones are your friend, along with Resource Extraction Sites.
Both are great for earning money from combat, especially with a badass like the Vulture. This is my general Vulture: http://coriolis.io/outfit/vulture/24...BhrSwRmzuEA=== When in CZs etc., I tend to replace the Kill Warrant Scanner with more Chaff. The Vulture doesn't have great power, so you need to compromise on something, and juggle priorities. I compromised on the Thrusters. (I don't count the D-rated Life Support or Sensors as compromises as I always go for that due to the reduction in mass). Always go for the enemy's Power Plant, unless the ship is small. It may not be an instant kill any more when you get it to 0%, but it's still the best subsystem to target. Conflict Zones: You need to go to the system panel (right) and find the tab that lets you choose a side to fight for. You will then see those ships go green and the others go red. Kill the red and collect combat bonds, then cash the bonds in at the local starport. RES: You need to scan everyone and kill those that are Wanted. A Kill Warrant Scanner is handy for getting out of system bounties. I think a recent update also added compromised nav beacons and other areas that are good for killing enemies and earning credits. I've not actually played in a month or more as I've been back on Destiny! ---------- Post added at 20:34 ---------- Previous post was at 20:33 ---------- Oh, but watch out for canopy breaches! The Vulture is a killing machine... but it has a big and fragile canopy... |
Re: Elite: Dangerous

I never let my ship explode, i guess it is cheating but atleast in solo mode we can close the game down before we die then load it again and the ships fine. ---------- Post added at 20:40 ---------- Previous post was at 20:37 ---------- So everything that is on that link you gave me is exactly how your ship is setup? |
Re: Elite: Dangerous
You combat log!
Don't ever admit to that on the official forums :erm: Yup, that's my Vulture :) As I said, I tweak it sometimes depending on what I'm doing, so may put more Chaff in for example. |

Right, now I have purchased E-D I'm gonna need some help with the best way to control the game. I'm a keyboard & mouse guy for all games I play but after having a quick 5 minutes I dont think this will cut it, so what do you elitist's reccomend I use/get/try.

Thanks for that info, I think I'll look at a controller, that X52 has a hefty price tag for a casual gamer although I'm sure it offers better realism. I'm gonna be moving my PC which will give me more room & I'm thinking of adding maybe 2 19" monitors to my 28" main screen. Does the game support multi monitor set-ups? I'm sure there will be many more questions ;) |

What would be great is being able to utilise my 2 nexus 10's for the UI left and right with full touch screen compatability, that would be sweet. Ended up getting a T-Flight hotas X, gonna take me some time to get used to it but it feels more intuitive . |
Re: Elite: Dangerous
I've been playing the New Horizons Beta the last couple of nights and wow the planetary landings are gorgeous, you are going to love it. But I have noticed the performance hit. Might be time to upgrade my 2yr old graphics card.
|
Re: Elite: Dangerous
Still getting to grips with my T-Flight, not getting anywhere very fast with the stick or the game but still enjoying the repetition of going between 2 stations trading while I get a bit more money.
Having issues with combat :dunce: Upgraded my GPU to a gtx980 SOC for when I get horizons once I have mastered the required skills a hell of a lot more. |

Re: Elite: Dangerous
I got my money by buying a hauler then making enough to get the Cobra, then eventually moved on to getting a Vulture and forgetting about trading peanuts and made my millions just shooting things which in turn allowed me to kit out the Vulture to make it easy to kill others.

I've actually gone and bought another Cobra, though, as I missed it. I still have my Vulture for combat, but have the Cobra if I want to do a bit of smuggling or light trading. Pledged to Aisling Duval a few weeks ago, as I want the Prismatic Shields you can get from her Powerplay faction. |
Re: Elite: Dangerous
Has anyone used/got one of these?
http://www.edtracker.co.uk/ https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_qOSq1jZwAY https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2GnobYU50cs One thing I dont have or am easily able to manage and I do miss is free look. They seem quite cheap & I have seen a couple of Tube vids with them in use. Wanna get some real feedback off of a user or 2 before I buy. |
Re: Elite: Dangerous
I got this when it first hit Beta I feel dirty I installed the game tried it for about an hour and then never went back to it....not for wanting to though I've just never had the time to sit down and master the controls
