Its the thing of the times now that Cardiff have to change colours.

As l have said before, Money speaks in football, everything connected to a club now involves 'how much money we can make' its like Spurs for example.

If and when Spurs build this new stadium, they plan to change the name of the ground in the means to make money out of it.

Trouble is, it won't change the price of entry.

Re: Football Season 2012/2013

It's all one-upmanship. Swansea built a brand new 20,000 seater stadium, Cardiff build a bigger one. Swansea get in to the Premiership, Cardiff want to do something like this.

The idea is to make Cardiff more marketable (they're also changing their name from the Bluebirds to the Red Dragons) and the owners have promised to pump £100m in to the club for going along with this. As a Swans fan I love to watch Cardiff fail but I see both sides of this. Traditional fans don't want such a radical change however £100m being put in to a club (and presumably a sizeable chunk going on players) that's not even Premiership quality is pretty impressive.

very sad day and I hope the fans make a statement with their feet and don't turn up and don't buy the new kit either. You can't change tradition and if they wanted they could have made the red kit the away kit

The owners are morons. Cardiff are not going to become popular in the far east because they wear red. The owners have looked at the clubs that do well in Asia (United, Liverpool, Arsenal) and have concluded it must the be shirt colour! There are other reasons those clubs are well known internationally....

The colour red symbolized luck and good fortune in China and some other Asian countries. There are certainly other reasons, but it wouldn't surprise me at all if the shirt colour contributes.

It was Ivan time tonight. They know the payroll is messed but Arsenes ethos is to have minimum superstars along with packed upcomers or something. I dont know to be honest. i just hope the overhaul will happen. we could easily sign players that dont cost 30mil but it all depends whether Arsene finally wakes up and gets rid of players robbing the club contributing to nothing.

do i hold faith. well look we've got Denilson out on loan at Sao Paulo. a few mill will do for him yet the deal is still not done! instead he has 1 more year left on his contract and hes talking of the loan being extended.

It's less about 'Arsene waking up' and more about the time it takes to turn it around. Ivan said in the meeting last night that they are addressing the wage structure but it will take a few years and they are not going to renew contracts for players that do not play. He also said we have to await improvement in commercial deals and FFP before we can compete with the best teams again, which is true, they had banked on the new stadium but then Chelsea and City came along and blew that advantage out of the water.

Quite interesting is the suggestion Fabregas refused to play to get the move to Barcelona to happen.

I heard a strong rumour that ESPN and AL Jazeera TV are joining forces to beat Sky for all the football rights.

There will be some battle if this does happen, as if l am not wrong the last time there was a bidding war, Al Jazeera said that they would bid big time for a jewel in the crown of Premier League football.

And that rumour you hear is not going to happen as Sky will get the majority of rights with ESPN getting rights to 38 matchs a season.

thenry 07-06-2012 20:31

Re: Football Season 2012/2013

ESPN want more prem games. if they are joining forces then they must have an international thing brewing as al jazeera has nothing but a news channel in the UK.

Sky will try push for more games. not sure whats going to happen to 3pm kick offs and packages available. the demand is high. the money is just going up. growth or awareness of the league. PR etc. etc. ?

Arthurgray50@blu 07-06-2012 21:49

Re: Football Season 2012/2013

Aljazeera said the last time these games came up that they wanted to challenge for football -which popular in the far east.

BUT, this will benefit armchair football fans, Sky are far to expensive and it will be great if Sky get a bruising.

colin25 07-06-2012 22:07

Re: Football Season 2012/2013

If Aljazeera and ESPN get it, how does it benefit us?

Depends what they charge, and they may well charge a premium for a football channel.

Personally, I don't think Sky's charge is that bad. I prefer to pay nothing, but suspect that will never happen.

thenry 07-06-2012 22:08

Re: Football Season 2012/2013

you might be getting mixed up with Englands rights and the rest of the world. Sky will always have their strongehold here. its international or areas rights aljazeera want and with ESPN they could work together to push for more. the appeal is only growing. they get to broadcast 3pm fixtures like Setanta Ireland.

Nasri didn't have the best of seasons but he wasn't too bad. thing is City thought they were getting a lone superstar when they wasn't. Nasri was always worked around when playing for us. if he'd show he wants to turn it on, our players would let him and work it. your squad on the other hand is being built in a different way so ye i can understand why people say he not good enough.

Arsenal signing of Yann M'Vila effectively confirmed by statement from Rennes on French Stock Exchange. So that's Podolski, M'Vila and Giroud, all heading for the Emirates. If anything can persuade Robin Van Persie to stay at the club, surely these statements of intent will. Three big and important signings, which will surely please Arsene Wenger and the Arsenal fans. Major contrast to last summer when it was all about exits. Onus now on RVP to clarify his position.

Being a mad Spurs fan, l will expect ALL players to stay at the club.

Daniel Levy is a shrewed businessman, and he was tough during the last transfer window and said that NO ONE is leaving.

I also expect Harry to stay, as the club know that there isn't anyone out there better than Harry to keep Spurs in the top four.

The only thing about Spurs is that they don't let anyone know about dealings until its done.

The Premier League's £2bn-plus auction of live UK television rights has gone to a second round with sources indicating a new bidder, thought to be al-Jazeera, has entered the fray against incumbents BSkyB and ESPN.

Bids for the second round of the auction for UK TV and digital rights to 154 Premier League games a season for three years from August 2013 are due in at lunchtime on Wednesday, with a good chance that the winners will be announced later the same day.
Quote:

"The sense is there is a new bidder out there with a potentially serious offer and everyone thinks it is al-Jazeera, although no one can be 100%," said one industry source. "The question is how many packages they are targeting, meaning Sky or ESPN."

If there are clear winning bids for all the TV packages after the second round the Premier League will announce the result quite swiftly, possibly Wednesday afternoon or by Thursday at the latest, unless a third round auction is required.

Al-Jazeera took French broadcasters by surprise last year, taking on incumbent Canal+ and snapping up live football rights including Euro 2012 and Euro 2016, Uefa Champions League football and the FA Cup. It launched a channel in France on 1 June.

The broadcaster also intends to launch two channels in the US in August, for which it has secured rights for football leagues in Spain and Italy.

The Sun is saying Laudrup has agreed a deal with Swansea. OK it's obvious we're just a stepping stone club for him and yes it *is* The Sun but I'm hoping they're right on this one.

Sky and BT get the rights.

Would have liked to see more removed from Sky to be honest. Wonder what this means for ESPN, can they really charge now football is going

I'm sure as shareholders they had an interest but the Premier League themselves will have been at it too. :)

Have I missed something? The FA aren't shareholders. The only shareholders are the 20 member clubs.

Seems I did, the FA have a special shareholding. But all this means is they can veto Chairman elections or the introduction of any new rules.
