I've got 2 Tivos, and both of them feed a second TV through a scart modulator, so have VM TV on 4 TV's in the house.

Problem is 2 of the TV's can ONLY watch what is one 1 box, and 2 of the TV's can ONLY watch what is on the other - THATS why we need MRS :)

Once in place I can watch anything, from any of the boxes, on any of the 4 TV's! :p:

Re: TiVo Commander Android App

Sorry for bumping an old thread. I had to remove TIVO Commander from my old phone after I ran out of space. With a shiny new phone I thought I'd have a go at installing it again as it was an excellent app. I noticed it is back in the Play Store now, renamed as DVR Commander, though I couldn't get it to connect using the IP and MAK. Is it still blocked by the firmware update, or was that ever resolved?

Yes it is still blocked, but have a look at RCX for tivo which works quite well and Zeebox is a tv guide that will change channel on the tivo. If you are still short of memory, try Network Remote for Tivo which also works but isn't very pretty!

I was wondering when VM are going (or if ever) to make an andriod app for watching your package tv? Seems BT and Sky have it all up and running. Would be nice to watch my programs on my tablet while the boss watches her rubbish.

That would be 'Coming Soon'.

Translation from Virgin speak = Doubt that we will ever see it.

The official VM android TiVo app won't be too far away.

They had it, and it worked, last year, and it was slated to arrive in the first quarter of this. So, any day now...

Well Virgin Smartcall (http://customer.virginmedia.com/smartcall) was 'just around the corner' last November and that is still coming soon!

What is it with VM and the apps?

working and being ready for public rollout are two totally different things. Its probably going through a lot of testing as we speak.

As are "the first quarter of 2013" and "well in to August and still no sign".

This is beyond a joke now.

This app was first announced in December 2010!!!
http://paidcontent.org/2010/12/02/41...n-tivos-hands/

How many other Android apps have taken the best part of 3 years to see the light of day?

Where did VM say it would be 'first quarter'?

Nothing should take three years HD but alas we are talking about Virgin here and vagueness and poor communications are their middle names and alas that still remains the case l am afraid.

Thats because the app doesn't exist and isn't happening. VM can't admit it as it would look them look bonkers to have gone out of the way to block an excellent working app (TIVO Commander) in the first place.

It will (does) and it is.

Just at an incredibly slow rate, shame VM seem to have IOS scripters (even those V Mobile don't support the iPhone), but no Android scripters. I could have learnt the scripting language, scripted it and done about 500 other apps in the time it has taken VM to do one app.

Re: TiVo Commander Android App

This may have been answered before but why did VM block the TiVo commander app? It was a good workaround whilst waiting for the official Android App.

I am as frustrated as the next Android user about this but I can see the predicament the App writers have. iOS have a handful of tablets and the same again in phones for their app to be compatible with where as there are probably hundreds of different Android devices to be compatible with.

I guess VM are just trying to stop the influx of calls saying my phone/tablet does not work with your app, please fix it.

TiVo Commander use(s) the (currently) undocumented enhanced TiVo APIs to work, rather than the more basic Remote protocol (apps which use that continue to work).

So TiVo boxes were updated to block unauthorised access to the protocol in both the UK and US. This also stopped the hack that got the get US TiVo iOS app working on VM TiVo.

For the US boxes, it seems the person behind TiVo / DVR Commander has worked out how to get around the block again, but hasn't done so for VM boxes.

Thanks for clarifying Ben. So in short it is down to the app developer to get around it and seeing as it is written and works in the US, they wont be too fussed about the UK TiVo.

Oh well, the Android wait continues...

May be that's the problem, Vm don't know how to get round their own block ;)

Maybe they should offer a contract to the writer of TiVo Commander -seems to have more about him than VMs amateurs.

Hmmm, that's not true. VM and TiVo are hard at work on great things.

They need to be. My TiVo box hasn't had any sort of update for ages, its slower than my ZX Spectrum . Sky's box is so quick/slicker in comparison.
