Yes this this is the best bit as if they are not seen as fit and proper they will not get it.

But pending the results of the police enquiry into alleged illegal behaviour by the News of the World, and pending a public disclosure by News International of the way that it has changed its structures and practices to ensure such abuses never happen again, Ofcom is not in a position to adjudicate whether News Corporation is fit and proper.
So that means it will go the the Competition Commission.

So that means it will go the the Competition Commission.

Just said on Sky news OFCOM can only look at the current directors , therefore the takeover would go through , and an ex OFCOM executive said it has already passed competition commission stage.

So after all this they will still be able to buy Sky and then slowly make this incident look like it never happened

It has not passed the stage where ofcom can look at it and still pass it to the CC as was debated yesterday in the Commons.

Most will probably not spend as much as well if they ever return , especially if readers drastically drop off.

Why are they biased , Murdoch owns 39% of BSKYB not all of it , you would have a valued argument had he already took the further 61%. The NOTW are getting a rough ride on Sky news as well.

Why are they biased (what a daft question?) All channels are biased I'm one way or another? I just hate and deplore anything that has the NI stamp of approval. This is just my opinion and it has been made stronger now than in 1989, that is why I have now cancelled SKY Sport and Movies with immediate effect.

Look for the Sunday Sun to go nationwide.

NotW is being sacrificed on the altar of News International completing the take over of BSkyB.

Yes l agree in that Murdoch l suspect has a plan B and as you say l would not be surprised if a Sunday Sun launches after this has died down.

Not that different, circulation has been falling year on year for ages, people don't buy them for news anymore but for sport and celebrity tittle tattle, the days of them setting the political agenda are gone, I just hope that the phone hacking scandal isn't just forgotten now that the paper is shutting which is obviously what Rupert and his pals are hoping.

I agree with "Lord" Prescott.

John Prescott, former deputy prime minister

"It's a typical management stunt from Mr Murdoch," he told BBC News
"What he does is he gets rid of problems and in this case nobody in senior management ... none of those go but the poor old workers at the News of the World are going and there's no doubt it will become the Sunday Sun.

I was just pointing out you'll need to stop watching/buying movies made by his company, buying music by artists signed to labels within his company etc etc.

Maybe remove his tv channels form your package as he gets a cut from your subs for FX ect.

I suspect that the public has not been fooled by this action at all..I think it is going to take far,far more to make this sorry string of events go away.

Deliciously cynical points scoring, pretty much the level we're all used to from politicians on that side of the spectrum.

T'internet is truly a democratically wonderful thing in this changing world. Left wingers allowed to air views that wouldn't be permitted in any of Murdoch's conduits of propaganda. :tu:

I'm sure the son of NOTW is already in the planning stage in Murdoch's bunker. I hope the internet generation remain vigilant.

Re: NotW phone hacking allegations: Milly Dowler, Soham, 7/7, dead soldiers' families

Absolutely sickening that the innocent workers lose out because senior management like to make the mess but not clean it up or take responsibility. That being said though i can imagine the police now have quite a few other people to talk too about what was going on at the NOTW and who was responsible for what and who knew what.

This might well turn out to be a very bad move on the part of NI as none of those workers owe him a damn thing now and can freely talk about things they may not have done before here's hoping.

No but owning 39% of the company gives them a say of what is done and said as well?

Doesn't surprise me at all , they interviewed an editor from the guardian on Sky news who basically said it could also be a cost cutting exercise , he also said James Murdoch wasn't a big fan of newspapers. What do you lot think will happen to the Suns reader base ?

I did not resort to name calling if you get your facts right? If it is not causing public unrest then why is there this many pages to this thread?

No wonder from my rant on another thread that they have contacted me and have had their accounts deleted off of this forum as I seem to want to do the same. With the ? starting every time that someone posts something?

Exactly.

I am quite willing to be burnt and proved wrong here, but can anyone actually prove that an online petition has actually made a difference, well one that matters anyway?
