Well done VM

I registered for Tivo, way back in December.

I received all of the mails, except the Dear Dean one onwards.

If I can prove I received all the previous mail will I be able to speak to Customer service about getting a April install?

Great news about the install fee, I am glad Virgin Media listen to their customers :-)

Is the pre-order launch date still the 11th April to call customer services?

If you pre registered you will not need call call CS. You will get an email with a link to book your install I think.

I hope so, but I have not had any communication from Virgin about the TIVO since pre-Dean.

A better question would be have they got enought people to support the new TiVo system.

I think not. I have had my VM TiVo box for over a month.
Two weeks ago I had a network problem and had no VOD options.
Engineer came out a few days later and diagnosed a network problem on thier system. Several phone calls from engineers did not resolve the problem.

Then I slowly lost my EPG and could not record anything. After many phone calls being passed a round to people who had no clue about TiVo I am now awaiting a third visit from an engineer later this week!

I can now only watch live TV with no EPG and have to enter the PG pin every time I change channel.

I will be asking for my V+ box back if it does not get fixed this time.

Thanks for the new update today DF that has made me consider it even more now the install fee has been waved for April. I do however have one question currently I have the following:

Line Rental £12.24

Talk Evening & Weekend £3.50

Phone, TV, Broadband Discount -£14.00

Calldispl £2.05

TV Size: L £12.75

V+ HD Box £5.00

Broadband Size: L £25.25

Sports1,Sports2 £22.50

For which I pay £69.29 (Prices before this months price rise), what sort of cost would i be looking at for TiVo as I would have to upgrade to XL Tv, would the VM staff have special deals for those upgrading?

BenMcr 05-04-2011 15:54

Re: General TiVo Discussion Part 2

Well it's a £12 difference between L and XL on the Tv

And TiVo is £3 rather than £5 for V+ HD

So it would be a £14 increase

Bundles isn't really my area, but Customer Care should have all the latest offers to hand when calling, once launched.

Upgrade to more channels and get the first 6 months half price.
The link then resolves to a none existent page:

I rang up yesterday, because I pre-registered in November, and had last been told I'd hear from Virgin before the end of March about arranging an install ahead of general release.

Which, given how much its been dragging on, didn't seem that unreasonable.

Was told I should hear by the 11th before it goes on general release on the 18th.

I actually rang again today to get a quote for ordering a second phone line, and told the guy I'd wait and order it at the same time as Tivo. He said I could order Tivo today, but then came back and said I couldn't until the 11th.

So it does all seem a bit confused regarding the whole 'pre-register and get it before it becomes generally available' thing.

As stated by a few members on here all pre-regs will receive a e-mail from the week commencing the 11th, so before it goes on general sale?

The email actually stated 'around the end of March' which is when VM started emailing customers advising there would soon be a further email detailing exactaly how to order TiVo before it went on general release.

Its not confusing at all but some people just can't wait of are misreading the dates that have been given. It also won't be the 11th but the week of the 11th April.

duklaprague 05-04-2011 16:48

Re: General TiVo Discussion Part 2

:p

Either way, I still think that having heard nothing more by the end of March it was reasonable enough to ring for an update by the first week of April.

And it does still seem confusing, as people are being contacted before the 11th, which matches what I thought I was told yesterday - ie that people who had pre-registered would be contacted by the 11th.

But if you're now saying that it will be the week of the 11th, then who are Virgin contacting prior to that?

Where did you hear people were being contacted? VM have been sending emails to all the pre reg customers since the end of last week but there are currently no calls going out arranging installs.

Been away living my life and been told about the free install in April, pretty much enough to sway me I think, been too busy considering other things to worry about TV recently.

For the record can I state the following:
1. TiVo is awesome
2. There is very little about it that it is state of the art, ultimately it is an amalgam of S1 TiVo and V+.
3. The attitude of some users on this forum is utterly sickening, you know who you are, I've not had treatment like that in over 15 years on the internet!

Yes it may be confusing but what you have to realise is that dates can move for release, As this has happened to other tech and also other items.
So I understand where you are coming from and also I understand that it can be frustrating for all when they want something.

Sure - that's all fair enough. I was just saying that it had all become a bit confusing.

And I should probably say I wasn't ever complaining - this started with a throwaway post about how I'd rung up for an update on what was going on.

If you order online will you be able to check / uncheck for additional boxes you have. I wish to retain my V+ and replace the standard box upstairs with it. Surely all this will be a bit complicated online and I'll have to phone in as suggested.

I would ring up for that as it will be straightforward enough for them to book especially as it is a manned install, it will be similar to upgrading to a V+ and keeping the original box but without the need to run cabling.

Let me get this right.

Order the Tivo online then phone CS to adjust my bill. Surely I'll just swap the boxes and give the standard box to the engi when he installs my tivo.

You said that you were unsure so a simple phone call would make sure everything is correct.

The engineer can swap the boxes on the day of install if you want him to as that is what he will be there for.

Actually best bet will be to tell the person you are ordering TiVo with which box you want to replace, otherwise the TiVo codes will end up on the wrong Smartcard.

The Tech will then know which box to swap out based on the Smartcard and what you tell them

With all the reviews that I have read I think that the only downside to the box is the lack of channels (The DIY/COOKERY/SHOPPING AND TALK SHOW CHANNELS):erm:

If VM is scrapping the £3 per month charge for TiVo orders placed in April and beyond, if the customer is on a VIP50 or VIP100 tarriff.

If this is true, will customers who already have TiVo installed and are on one of the above tarriffs, also get the £3 per month charged waived.

Yes from what DF has posted they will get this. When I got the TIVO call they did not mentions anything about the £3 charge so long as I stayed on the VIP50 package I would not be charged the £3.

I should really add it will be a shopping channel that sells shoes.

It isn't a channel that describes the history of the shoe!

Ben, Spiderplant or DF,

I'm hoping to get the pre-sale offer Tivo and already have 2 v+ boxes installed. Do you have any idea if I can keep both of the V+ boxes, have one of the V+s moved to another room and the Tivo plugged into the 'old' v+ location. So the engineer will sort of 'install' one of my current v+ into a new location as opposed to the Tivo?

Could this still qualify for the April 'free install'?

Yes it would and also other shows with the names in the title E.T.C ( Also the ones with Chicago and Bears in the title ). So you could end up with shows that you may have missed and shows that you will never known have been on due to suggestions ( If you give it the thumbs up during the showing ):erm:

Does this mean it will record nature programs too about Bears in Chicago and any adult programmes about a different kind of 'Bears' in Chicago? :D:D

This is by far the best news. Many thanks DF for posting.

Could I just clarify that the purchase price can be paid via the normal direct debit bill rather than Debit card upfront?

Having not pre-registered, am I in for the £150 connection or install (whatever it was marked as) fee? Really can't see myself paying £3 (only VIP 20) plus that which is a shame.

It will go on to your bill, rather than credit card. we will make sure your credit limit is adjusted so it doesn't cause account issues.

ok, quick update guys.....

some of you will get an email to book online and some will be directed to a special pre-sales orderline, this is because some of you have complicated billing arrangements! :)

Install is free in April, so you are getting that knocked off.

VIP's (50 & 100 only)are getting the TiVo monthly charge waived. It will appear on the bill, but you will get a bigger discount to cover.

now stop moaning!!!!! :D

There is also more deals around additonal outlets, but you'll need to speak to sales or see this in the ordering process online :)

THanks for this information.

I currently have BB 30mb, Phone and TV (the free one) as part of the package. WHen i spoke to retentions about coming back to 50mb and XL TV for everything BB & TV they said do it on the day you order Tivo and they can work it out for me rather than me upgrading to 50mb now. I will also be keeping the other box in the other room when I come back from sky for my main lounge tv service.

To qualify for the free install and the £3 a month off deal do I need to be already on the 50mb service with XL TV or can I do it on the day?

Thanks.

What is VIP50/100? Sorry its been a year or so since I have been with VM for my main tv service. Does it mean 50 or 100mb internet?

I am wanting to go back for 50mb internet and XL TV in both rooms (tivo for the lounge and the V+HD being relegated to the bedroom).

Much happier with the price if can have the install and £3 a month charge waived. I wont be paying for the sky channels as still find them very expensive but either way VM have kept me from resigning up with sky.

Hope they improve their EPG data soon, worried I'm going to miss half my shows from what I've been hearing, lol.

Does anyone know if it's Tribune getting it wrong, or the TiVo?

From what's been discussed, am I right in thinking this email coming in the week starting the 11th of April, will have a link to order online, and an option to ring CS to order?

Will it be general CS or a sub-team with knowledge of the Tivo pricing and options, such as multi-room etc.?

Sorry if this has been anwsered before. I did not pre-register for TiVo
Will existing customers that did not register be able to order TiVo in April.

Thanks in advance for any replies.

It's not that bad.. certainly no worse than V+ or Sky. Normally if something goes wrong it's the first run dates (and that apparently happens in the US too when shows are run first over here).

In 10 years they've never sorted out 'Click' though... The merkins just can't understand a programme that's repeated 8 times a week... (I suspect the BBC are sending them duff data too).
