Defirish here is a small example of low calorie foods including potatoes. Also Nimble bread only has 48 calories per slice, so you don't have to give up your favourite foods. If you did that you would soon tire of trying to lose weight.

I have my Weight Matters course today, hope they remember to bring the scales (and hope I've lost some more). Before that I have a doctor's appointment at 8.30am for a blood test and a you know what sample.:) Hope they can tell me sometime soon that I am not diabetic. :erm:

Having a curry, several beers, half of the G/Fs curry and sampling some other peoples to check they were as hot as they looked then having a few hours sleep is NOT they best way to prepare for a 5K run on Saturday morning.

Still I managed it, crap time, but managed it and the amount of sweat lashing off me has to have been good for some form of detoxing.

Well done Ravenheart! Keep up the good work. On Wednesday with the class I attend, it is an introduction to the gym. I am hoping that at least one of the other members will be keen enough to enrole and we can meet on a regular basis at the gym, and give each other support. :)

I'm going to say ask for further advice, and let the water let you gently exercise - but I'm so reluctant to say anything as I'm no expert.
Make the experts step in :)
I wish you had a brine pool there.

Defirish with your health issues being as severe, it would seem prudent to take little gentle steps in your quest to lose weight. For example if you can walk round the block (or as far as you can manage) and gradually increase the length of your walk, would help. The main thing is to increase your activity. In my case I have found my pedometer has been a great aid. I know the figures it gives are not accurate, but the point is it reminds me the little/lot of activity I am doing on a daily basis (if that makes sense).:)

Double? DOUBLE??? :Yikes:
I did 1 session once (eldest's fiancee's friend couldn't go with her so I did). It was huge fun and felt like I'd had a really good workout afterwards. Slept like a log that night too :D.

Get yourself an energetic collie dog. They come with miles of gentle walking as part of the package and it's surprisingly social as well as dog walkers all seem to talk to one another.

Weight gain is continuing.... I'm actually looking forward to end of March when I start to slim down even if I'm not looking forward to having to be disciplined. At the moment I can eat whatever I want pretty much.

14st 13lb / 209lb / 94.8kg now... not nice at 5ft 8-9in. Want to drop that to no more than 196 once I trim down.

I gave up the milk chocolate and replaced it with the dark choc as I wasn't eating as much of the dark chocolate as I was the milk one.

Today now I have given up the dark chocolate and replaced it with fruit. Well I made smooties as I dont really like fruit but it tastes ok in made into a smootie.

Also for the first time this morning I have made this oat ceral instead of my normal wetabix and I found I was a lot more full from it as well and dont my gentle walk today.

Dont beat yourself up as when the time is ready you will be able to do it and do it in small doses as well and you will get there. :hugs::hugs::hugs:

Thank you defirish once again! :hugs: You have the right idea with the small walks, and just genrally keep moving more than you would normally, and when you feel the time is right go back to the pool.

Don't lose heart Irish, you are doing what you can under very difficult circumstances. The key is to keep moving more than you would normally.

:erm: I think I am developing saddle sores lol! I've had to tie a cushion on the saddle. :D:D:D When I first started using it I thought all I had to do was just jump on and peddle like billio, but after just 5 long minutes I was completed kna.. well I was very tired, put it that way. So what I am doing now is gradually increasing my session and hoping that eventually I will become fit enough to cycle for longer. That is my ultimate aim.:)

Today was my last day at the 'Weight Matters' course, how soon the time has flown. Disappointed in a way because this was the first week I actually gained weight .3 kilo, but I put that down to muscle gained by using my new exercise bike (well I've got to blame something). Also I am vexed that I wont again see the friends that I have made, who attended the same course. :( I am hoping that we will meet again somewhere along the way if we all sign up for a similar course in the future. :)

I've dipped into 8st territory again :( Getting fit or even thinking about getting fit has been out of the window for so long now. If anyone say eat more cake etc one more time I'll............ (scream).

(I'm 5'10, nearly 40, was normal build).

Good luck to people losing weight though, I've no idea what that's like when it's a constant battle, apart from seeing the hassle and effort my wife has to put in to keep in shape. Not easy and not something I envy either.

Re: Who Is Getting Fit This Year?

The Lipotrim diet. I've been on it before, it's a good way of losing weight rapidly. I must admit though, I do take it really seriously and do go too far, losing too much, but it does give you that feeling of euphoria after 2 or 3 week of being on it.

After about 4 days on the diet, your body goes into kitosis and starts to burn the fat that the body has been storing.

One shake in the morning and one in the evening, plus as much water, black coffee and tea as you can drink.

Sasha222 02-03-2011 19:55

Because people just assume I don't eat for the fun of it. So a normal response (even from GPs) is that they tell me to eat more, eg fatty foods, cakes, choc etc, but mainly cakes. Odd but there you go. I could probably eat as many cakes as I wanted but it wouldn't make the slightest bit of difference.

Another thing that annoys me, I won't walk up to someone and say, gee you're fat, lose weight, but when you're underweight it doesn't stop people saying, gee you need to eat more. I'm very self conscience that I don't weigh alot, equally the same as those opposite.

Sasha222 02-03-2011 20:03

Re: Who Is Getting Fit This Year?

Ah now I understand. I used to be really thin as well years ago. Long time now and I used to be told the same thing and even if I was brought into hospital the nursing staff thought I was anorxic and were nearly pushing the food down my throat and used to actually sit on the bed looking at me while I was eating as well.

I was a big eater and never mattered what I eat just never put the weight on and then all of a sudden years later I put on a stone and now cant shift it and now I'm being told to lose the stone.

So cant win :(

Oooh you have been busy posting while I've been dashing about.

Hello to new folks in the thread!

My latest update is I've lost 2.4 pounds since her last weeks weigh in and I've lost 16.5 pounds so far :) It's been a difficult fortnight as I've been off doing things for NRAS and it often involves eating out, which can be a bit of a minefield at times. Another busy week next week but hoping to dig the pushbike out if the better weather continues.

Had an interesting chat with a physio about the use of powerplates too and effect on bone density in people with reduced mobility. I've asked her to write up a small article for me for our group newsletter, . Once I have I'll include a link here in case it's of interest to anyone.

Everyone is doing really well, whether trying to shed a few pounds or put some on, keep up the great work folks. :tu:

Well done Ravenheart 2.4lbs is a lot to lose in a week, give us some tips for heaven's sake. I'm needing to kick start my slimming again, for some reason I haven't lost anything for seems like ages, despite using the exercise machine etc., and only just over 3 weeks till I go to Spain. :erm:

Re: Who Is Getting Fit This Year?

All I've done was continue to use myfitnesspal (MFP) to watch my calories and use EA sports Active 2 for some workouts. I set up my profile on mfp to lose 2lbs per week and so far it seems to have worked. Some weeks are better than others :)

It's really handy to see where those hidden calories are and it's free too, which is always a bonus.

Tinky 07-03-2011 07:39

Re: Who Is Getting Fit This Year?

Ravenheart that's a very good site :tu:, I had a look at it again yesterday. It actually tells you how much you can expect to lose in x amount of time if you follow the instructions and stick with the calorie allowance. I also kick started my efforts again yesterday by trying to drink more water, managed 3 glasses (well it's a start), and increased my exercising. Let's see how I progress with that.:)

Just back from the Barcelona marathon.

Averaged about 27 minutes per 5k till the 30k point then my knee decided not to play anymore and I had to drop off the pace badly and stumbled across the line in 4 hours 23 minutes.

Not a disastrous time but was aiming for under 4 hours :(

Still I can try again in 6 weeks at London and there doesn't seem to be any lasting damage.

That's still pretty good buddy.

Having completed my '30 in 30' challenge last month, I accidently signed up for 50 miles this time. The last day is Friday, and I've just got 7½ miles left to go - a couple of cheeky 5k runs today and Thursday, plus a couple of miles on Friday and challenge completed!

Having run 80 miles (so far) this year, I finally consented to weighing myself at the weekend - I've managed to lose 8lb since January.

The next challenge will probably be starting tomorrow, seeing as I've given myself a few days of recovery, and may even be 60 miles - not quite sure yet!

OK, I started the diet a week or so late, but have got off to a good start. Saturday was the day I began the diet. I've not eaten anything since then, all I have had are the 2 shakes a day (one in the morning and one at night), that I'm allowed and lots of sparkling water.

I bought 3 more weeks supply today, I reckon I'll have lost well over a stone by then.

How's the diet going Product, you should have lost several pounds by now?

I appear to have to have come to an impasse, the scales are just not moving despite still watching my diet and exercise. So my hopes of losing anymore before my hols next are looking 'slim'.

Bought 20kg and 24kg kettlebells last week (to go with the 12 & 16kg ones I had already)......the extra weight is noticable. :disturbd:

Thanks for asking Tinky... 12 days today since I started the diet, and it's been extremely difficult! But no turning back now, I can already feel the difference, much more energy, plus feelings of euphoria! (I can take on the world!!) :D The cravings should have subsided by this time next week.

As for my weight, I haven't been on the scales since last Tuesday...

Thursday 10th (2 days before I started) = 18.1st

Tuesday 15th (4 days after) = 17.7st

I don't have a clue of what my weight is at the moment, but will nip into the surgery tomorrow and find out.

Wow! result or what Product?, you must be well chuffed!

I've resigned myself to be content with my meagre loss (19lbs since 6th Jan). Seems that despite all my efforts I am not going to get across that next stone barrier/indicater on my scales. But hey ho I'm feeling better for it, and I am not going to give up. I will renew my efforts after 14th April after I have fully indulged all my appetites on the Costa del Sol! :D:D:D

Looking to pursue a career in the Army so could do with some tips,

Was in MMA for about a year so was in perfect shape, Gave that up and piled on a bit since then :p:

5''10 12.8st Roughly

An important factor is being able to run 1.5 miles in under 13 minutes. Im yet to try it, a year ago I would have smashed it but now I'm not so confident.

Tips greatly appreciated :)

Interval/Fartlek training. :tu:

Easiest way I find to do it is find a long-ish straight road. Sprint between a set of lampposts, jog the next set, sprint, jog etc.

Re: Who Is Getting Fit This Year?

Gave it a rough go, 30 minutes or so.

Main problem I seem to be having is Breathing. My muscles can take it but my lungs cant.

I'm a smoker (15-20 a day)

So its clear that this is a massive issue and is going to have to be cut right down or out.

Food wise:

Nothing cooked via Fat, No deep fry =]

Eating Fish and keeping a decent balance, Not a drinker so that's not going to be an issue.

So to sum it up I think the goals for this week are:

- Lower smoking rate
- Jogging at a steady pace

I've got the other tests nailed (Strength etc.)

This 1.5 mile run is a Pass or Fail moment regardless of your scores in the others.

Re: Who Is Getting Fit This Year?

Nice to see folks still doing well in this thread.

After going on holiday I was fearing the worst for my weight loss, but I came home and the extra exercise I'd taken while i was away had helped with a few more shed pounds, and after I weighed myself yesterday I've now lost 26lbs in total.

After seeing the Stephen Nolan factual programme Dead Fat, I aim to keep it off too.

Keep up the great work folks.

Wow! Your doing brilliantly Ravenheart, how much do you still want to lose?
I have found over the years that the older I get the harder it is to lose weight. I've still got the exercise bike out so I may do a bit cycling now and again, but my original incentive to slim down has gone. Luckily Mr T loves me just as I am, any weight loss now would be purely for health reasons.;)

Been going to the gym for the last year and a bit. Had to take a week off last week, as I had a bad back. It's still not great, but it's a lot better than it was, and I was able to do a limited work out tonight. Hopefully it'll be OK in a couple of days.
