I'm guessing all the over headends are gonna be closed down, or used for something else right?

I can't go in to too much detail, as I think it's classed as business sensitive information, but 1 will close and the other will be a back-up... regional headends will just be hub sites with some used for VOD.

That makes sense finally we can start to see cable being one unified company where hopefully new services can be rolled out quicker accross the country.

Can't wait for ITV HD to land. Watching the Stoke v Arsenal game on my V+ box on ITV1 is akin to watching a cheap internet stream. Awful quality.

Here's hoping we have it in time for the FA Cup final, or failing that, the World Cup.

Looks like you may not need it for the FA Cup final anyway. :D

But is there a rough estimate of when it will arrive on VM? Or is it just some time before the World Cup.

Is ITV2 HD going to be launching soon or something? As this screenshot now shows ITV1 HD for the channel name instead of ITVHD!

This is from a capture from satellite btw, not from cable before you ask.

The FA Cup Final will take place on the 15th May. Do you work for Virgin Media, or are you just going to make an educated guess as to how likely it is?

Probably more to do with ITV +1 now being allowed to launch and ITV HD gearing up for simulcast of the main channel for primetime.

Can't see your image, but the name change is because ITV1 HD will become a standalone channel, rather than being red button content.

ESPN could do with launching a 2nd Channel now they have got the rights to the FA Cup & Guiness Premiership, it would certainly help there profile.

NASCAR Now has nothing to do with the NASCAR rights, it's a show produced by ESPN (in America) which has always been shown over here.

As of yet there is no information on the NASCAR rights.

Or maybe upgrade 50 to 200 20 to say 50 and 10 to 25 with good upload speeds ;) no need for price cuts then maybe remove stm but that more a wish

so why would virign need to worry about bt? they can produce speeds higher than bt will in 2012 and have the same speeds as bt if both ugprade at the same pace by 2020 ie 1gb connection nither with fibre or docsis could go higher with currently technologhy but by then there might be new stuff

there wants to be some new channles coming to XL only because with all these channels moving to be available on L tv as well as the free offers there is gonna be no need to have a XL subcription as everything will available on L TV especially if the prices are going up.

what VM need to remember is that its all nice to offer free channels to L TV and M TV customers but its no advantage to me who already pays for them infact im getting charged for channels other are getting for nothing !!!!!!

virgin will probably lower their broadband cost and increase their tv cost so that overall if you have a package you won't get a saving. 10mb upload is crazy, i can't even imagine 1200k/s upload, stuck on crappy 88k/s that virgin guy us 20mb ppl :(

Wish we had ITVHD sooner than may ish:( There isn't much good stuff on E4 HD so that isn't much of a desire for me. Still can't believe we don't have Discovery HD yet:(

p.s Andy Murray Vs Rafael Nadal is on BBCHD tomorrow morning @ 8.30am :)

I think it for V Boxes but all of your boxes will be cut for 5-6mins - V and V+ Boxes.

Great feature!
If you know what you are looking for, USE this instead of browsing.
Searches are less than one second (apart from the typing in letters bit of course :P )

One of the best features IMO.
I'm guessing you were the one that implemented it, if so very big pat on the back, i'm well chuffed lol.

As for playlists, in the future, will there be a feature for cueing tracks?
Would be great as it could be the same as now where when you press it, it says program will start soon (or whatever it says) but before-hand a list is given, and the box will automatically find it?
I've probably made it complicated, but I'm sure you know what I mean :P

:D

WOW !!!!

XL TV subcribers loose 4 channels to the L TV package and we gain 2 multicast channels which with the V+ box are not needed.

thats a crappy deal even if im the only one that thinks so.

its bad because people on LTV are getting channels that were exclusive to XL tv with no price increase. XL subcribers are still paying money but are betting less exclusive channels.

its all nice for people on L TV that are getting extra channels for nothing but VM are not thinking that by moving all these channels to L TV package they are decreasing the value of the XL pack.

Sky dont mess about like this and if XL dont get soe new channels soon it may be worth looking at Sky or reducing to L TV pack as the gap between XL tv and L TV pack is getting smaller by the month.

now i know you cant talk about the channels itself but when you say more channels on XL are you talking about actual channels or more + channels. As just adding + channels dont really do anything to inprove the recent devalueing of XL

I was having a convo with customer service the other day and they said to me they have quite a few channels in the pipeline but they aren't allowed to reveal which ones they are.

Heres hoping we get some decent ones.

They are correct, the reason they cant reveal..... is the channels names aint readily available although some virgin staff do know but i doubt customer service maybe the managers

I asked customer service about a channel and they looked on the list and told me that the channel I enquired about is not in the pipeline. I then asked them what channels were coming and they said we can't reveal them.

Back in the days when the company was ntl they used to tell me if I asked and they were correct as well on a few occasions.

:D

Well.. I couldn't take the credit for it :D the cueing of tracks is something that the Team are working on..no date yet though... possibly when the TIVO software comes in?

XL tv has had loads of extras added over the last year or so... including HD channels... The packs are changing slightly to make room for more "premium" channels to go in to XL... the channels that are moveing to L are hardly worth worrying about! Sit tight my friend...lots of lovely stuff coming your way ;)

think about what you have and not what you haven't for now... XL tv is great value :)

its all fine and well people in the know saying there is new XL TV exclusive channels on the way but all us in the general public see is that channels we were getting on XL package as exclusive by paying extra for the XL pack are now being made available of no extra cost to L TV subcribers but we are still paying for less exclusive channel content.
we dont know that this is all being done to make way for new XL exclusive channels all we have to do is take your word for it as there is no official word from VM.

I'm getting a V+ box next month. Who's got one? What make are they and are you liking it?

I hope they do get more HD channels especially Sky Sports and movies. I've watched Prem football on ESPN HD around a mates house, looks awesome.

I love HD I got a Panny blu ray player and PS3 so I've experienced HD on my Toshiba LCD TV. So I'm looking forward to the V+ box.

My package will be £55 is that good, what do other peeps pay? Thats for XL TV no phone line, Sports and movies pack and V+ box. Also a £75 fee. I'm currently a VM customer.

My set up is Toshiba 46" LCD TV, Yamaha RXV 1900 Reciever, 7.1 speakers.

It's not a weird chain of thought at all.

L costs £10 a month, XL costs £21.50 a month. That £11.50 extra gives you an amount of extra channels, if they move channels from XL to L then you're still paying £11.50 a month more, but you're getting LESS extra channels for it. Hence devaluing it in some people's eyes.

Yep, I see your point. If I pay for 500ml and then next week get 330ml for the same price, it has been devalued. However let's see what VM are going to do and see if something is announced next week.

but thats why you pay the extra £11.50 to get the exclusive channels as they launch or become available. the price increases every year and are due to do so again soon so if you pay for the XL pack you expect to be given priority on new channels.

plus we didnt get ESPN added they just replaced Satanta so using ESPN as an example is void. i do agree we got HD channels but so did the L TV package although not as many.

the point is Channels keep appearing on L TV that were XL TV exclusive and until anything is announced doing so devalues the XL TV package.

To me you have just answered your own point. What is the point moaning about it when it would be easier to wait a few weeks and see what is announced. If the announcement is just the launch of a few +1 channels then I will be with you all the way, but until then I don't think it is worth going on about.

The L package got one more - C4HD

All the others are in XL, and I bet any new HD channels will also be in XL only

ESPN replaced setanta yes (which is why I mentioned setanta) but what did Setanta replace? People will say sky basics.. but now both of them are there? That is a huge amount of value right there for XL seeing as the channels cost up to £10 alone.

The point is you can't really say it's devalued when things are moved down, without also saying it's value has risen when things are added. It all evens out to the point that XL still holds considerable more value than L. Infact I'd say that XL today is worth far more over L than the XL of 3 years ago.

Annual price increases generally have nothing to do with added content and everything to do with inflation.

I'm sure VM would rather people spent more money buying more of their products, but if they still have the M TV pack, at least let people know about it.

TV M is now a 'last ditch' package, just like BB S is

It is not part of Virgin's actively sold services.

For instance if you take out any of the current 2 month free TV offers, the minimum package you can downgrade to in your minimum term is the M+
