To be honest, I think people are aware of the notion of a God. I don't think it requires advertising...

That reminds me of the pulling techniques of some of my mates up the valleys - eye contact with a woman is considered acceptance of marriage :D

In a somewhat cheeky move, the Rev George Hargreaves of the Christian Party has created a bus advert which proclaims: "There definitely is a God. So join the Christian Party and enjoy your life." It will run on 50 bendy buses in central London, east London and the West End.
Sounds like a statement of fact. Quick someone call the ASA! :D

Well as long as this spat doesn't descend into fisticuffs who gives a damn.

Frankly I suggest too many people are facing a serious downturn in their lives at the moment to be paying this classic storm in a teacup any attention.

i must admit i am p"£$%d off with athiests slagging off that there is a god,if there is i am a happy man and i will take his judgement of me like a man.

I am an atheist and if you get p"£$%d off with people "slagging off that there is a god" then shouldnt you be happy as they are saying that there is one, when in actual fact there is no god, or have you got your post in a twist?
We have evolved over millennia without interaction from some omnipitent being. Evolution is the way forward, science rules, heck we may have evolved from aliens who crash landed here 500,000 years ago. But a god, ha dont make me laugh.
I wont be judged by anyone, well only my wife will judge me and I take that like a man :erm:;)

Peace...no need to laugh at someone's views. Science and faith can happily co-exist, I don't discount some realms of evolution but that's not what this thread is about, so let's stay on-topic please.....

Hang on. One of the societies is proclaiming that there definitely is a God. As this claim has never been proved to be correct, could this be construed as false advertising?

I think the advertising commission says it comes under opinion

And could this money be better spent on charities

And no one pays attention to bus ads

"definitely" ---does not sound like an opinion to me, more like a statement of fact.

This was about the atheist ad:
Quote:

"The ASA council concluded that the ad was an expression of the advertiser's opinion and that the claims in it were not capable of objective substantiation," said the ASA. "Although the ASA acknowledges that the content of the ad would be at odds with the beliefs of many, it concluded that it was unlikely to mislead or to cause serious or widespread offence."

Re: Atheist ads on London buses

I don't believe there is a god but can i say for certain there isn't no i can't anymore then someone can say there definately is it is an unknown that comes down to personal choice. Both sides are valid in this debate and neither side has any higher ground on which to look down on the other side or devalue their choice in this so disagree on the debate but please lets all respect the views we each hold rather then ridicule one side or the other.

I think personally all of this is a waste of money whatever side chooses to do it and i am sure both sides could find a better use for the money but at the end of the day it is upto them i personally have never bought anything or paid any attention to what is on the side of a bus and i doubt many others do really.

People will be people though and there are always some in the world that can't be contented in letting others choose and feel they have to influence people to their side all the time i find it is better to pay such people little attention and continue on making up my own mind based on my own personal experiences.
