A Red Arrows pilot has been taken to hospital after a mid-air crash between two planes during a training exercise in Crete.

The pilot ejected from the aircraft following the collision over Hellenic Air Force Base in Kastelli during a pre-season exercise.

A Foreign Office spokeswoman confirmed the pilot had been taken to hospital.

Another member of the RAF aerobatic team, based at RAF Scampton in Lincolnshire, landed safely.

Says the pilot in hospital dislocated his shoulder (probably the ejection or landing) but yes I count that as a slight accident.. Any landing you walk away from is a good landing whether you be in the plane or not at the time of touching the ground :D

Back to news article list

‘‘We can confirm that at 1150 GMT on Tuesday 23 March two Hawk aircraft from the Royal Air Force Red Arrows Aerobatic Team collided whilst undertaking pre-season training at Hellenic Air Force Base Kastelli in Crete. The aircraft were being flown by Flt Lt Mike Ling and Flt Lt David Montenegro. Flt Lt Ling ejected from his aircraft sustaining a dislocated shoulder and minor injuries associated with an ejection. His aircraft was severely damaged on impact with the runway. Flt Lt Montenegro managed to land his aircraft safely with no injuries. An investigation into the cause of the incident will shortly be underway and the 2010 season training will continue as soon as possible."

With not much to spot at the moment just having a browse through the archives. Couple of odd paint jobs (or lack of) spotted at Manchester a while ago.

They hadn't got around to painting the Airbus yet. Not sure where it was heading to, think it was Thomas Cook. (sorry about the Gulfstream wing, wish they'd park them somewhere else out of the way)

There is a strong rumour that Air France are going to be putting on an A380 between Paris and London and that it will be doing several journeys during the day.
So if you are heading to try and see the A380, this will add to the ones already going into Heathrow.

It makes better sense than using 3 x 737s. More fuel burnt, more landing fees, parking fees, maintenance.

Oooh I think I should save up just to do a quick return trip. I want to travel on this plane.

The annoying thing is that both Charles De Gaulle and Heathrow will both have those foot bridges that go right up to the aircraft so it will be hard to get photos. I like it when you can get out on the apron and see the plane as you get off.

Re: Plane Spotters Corner

I think the main issue is a landing/takeoff slots available at heathrow, Air france will only be allowed so many so if the demand exceeds the slot capacity they can ony put on a larger plane

Lost: The Mystery of Flight 447

Sunday 30 May
10:00pm - 11:00pm
BBC2
In the early hours of 1 June 2009, Air France flight 447, en route from Rio de Janeiro to Paris, disappeared over the Atlantic. Five days later the shattered wreckage was discovered, with all 228 passengers and crew dead. This film brings together an independent team of leading air crash investigators to provide the first credible solution to the mystery of flight 447. Conducting their own tests and simulations using the available evidence, their conclusions raise worrying concerns about aviation's increasing reliance on automated flight systems.

Hubby is taking our son one day in August. Make sure you have plenty of food, drink and a comfy seat. Use a once a day sun cream as the wind & sun are strong up there. Also the biggest lens for your camera which you can hand hold for panning purposes.

787 Dreamliner should be making it to Farnborough arriving 9am this Sunday 18th July and then leaving on Tuesday with the possibility of a flyby over RollsRoyce and East Midlands on the way back.

Saw an A380 practising earlier, as well as the Vulcan.

More or less confirmed now, Boeing's 787 will be doing a few go arounds East Midland Airport around 5pm Tuesday and then onto Rolls Royce before heading home.

Well Stansted has been approved for the big jets, so I'm waiting to get a photo of the A380 flying over my house :D

Even though the CAA state that they do not fly over my house (planes that is).

CF-18 crashes at an airshow practice and the pilot ejects at 90'and survives.

http://gizmodo.com/5595167/a-fighter...+%28Gizmodo%29

Looks like he was slow, nose up and went into a stall spin. Apparently the right engine flamed out.

And it had to happen during that song didn't it?

Re: Plane Spotters Corner

Yep, just let the Nose up slow speed pass get away from him, at least he would have known that he had an issue as soon as the nose slewed hence the succesful punchout

F22 Raptor at Farnborough - fairly impressive flying.

BBC

At about 1:50 and 2:45 there are some "how do they do that" moments.

Thanks. :)

I'm happy that the ones of The Blades came out quite good!

Towards the end of the afternoon, the cloud started rolling in more (as you can see) so I'm a bit disapointed with the Red Arrows and the Vulcan.

Still - I got to stand under the wing of a moving Vulcan when they towed her out!:)

They gotta train somewhere.. We get them from the west either high up over the south end of the vilage (following the chilterns) or they come in just north of the chilterns on a lower altitude then bank left to go north from the top of the village. Also get a lot of Pumas, Lynx following the same route quite often
