I sent this company a email about 2 weeks ago using the method on there site and no reply.

Looks like a major scam to me or they have went under already.

Ha Ha LOL
Expecting a reply to email under 4 weeks are you New to the internet.
Try 8 weeks, IF its not a Fault with service companies do ZERO to supply information..
Fibrecity wont go under untill there Loans are recalled by the Investers and thats not Due for Years thats what investers DO. There parent company H20 Has been around for a while any way.

Back to topic were does B11 cover and where is their base in Bournemouth. NEVER seen one dam VAN, As I got lots of questions for Real workers of the company. Seen plenty of Virgin media vans LOL, One guy lives real close.. Down the bottom of the road turn right.

BH9 as well still 5 months untill I expect them to want to Talk to me about installation.

Odd RealDiamond I've seen a number of posts on forums from people who've seen Fibrecity vans around Bournemouth and Dundee.

I seen a Fibrecity van on Sunday night at about 7.30 in the Little down area about 2 weeks ago and last Friday a Fibrecity van in Winton.

Also know I someone who works at a business along Ringwood road and he was saying that they had been working there for about a week, evenings and even Sunday digging up road etc.. you know near Lidl, Matalan, The Range etc.!

So they are around!

Re: 100mbps for Bournemouth

Well after someone popping around back in September asking where my girlfriend wanted the box fitted and being told it would be done in 4-6 weeks, rather unsuprisingly still nothing, I gave them a call. Was told that the cable would be installed by mid February, so much for 4-6 weeks, but of far more importance was told that there would be no services supplied until SEPTEMBER!

I was also told that there would be an announcement before regarding the services/ISPs available. Now firstly with this being Fibrecity I doubt that there will be any services until this time next year and secondlly in my eyes it makes no commercial sense to have all of the money tied up with the infrastucture for them to have no returns until September.

A reminder of post #145, May 15th 2009 on this thread
Quote:

Hi Guys,

Sorry for the lack of contact lately, have been in Bournemouth recently following up a few things.

@lloydio - We have not yet announced the service providers using the connection at the moment, as soon as I am able to do this I will be sure to post on here for everyone.

@Pierre - There are a number of homes installed as you have mentioned and we should be starting the roll-out in earnest in around 2-3 weeks.

I will post any information that I can as soon as guys.

Regards

Paul

I found this http://www.bournemouthecho.co.uk/new..._price/?ref=mr on the local newspaper website regarding prices, he states that he thinks that £80 per month would be too much, I hope that this is for a complete package rather than just 100Mbps internet! Virgin to be 2nd fastest ISP soon ?

Just read this in the PCPro newsletter.

http://www.pcpro.co.uk/news/broadban...ives-in-the-uk

Quote
Fibrecity is set to smash the British broadband speed record, with the launch of a network capable of bursting at 1Gbit/sec.
Fibrecity's network will deliver day-to-day speeds of between 25Mbits/sec and 100Mbits/sec, using fibre laid in Bournemouth's sewer network.
However, one of the three ISPs offering connections on the Fibrecity network, Velocity1, will offer customers bursts of 1Gbits/sec for bandwidth-intensive applications such as downloading HD movies. Customers will get ten free gigabit bursts each month, each lasting for an hour.

Interesting :-)

I wonder who will be first to roll 100mb across their network Sky or VM?

The question is though if they will make the necessary improvements to the 50mb network first. Not that I have 50mb myself I'm only going by posts in this forum.

Virgin will simply point out that fibrecity is only operating in a few towns, and VM are theoretically able to offer speeds nearly as high to around 50% of the country. Much as they are doing with ADSL now.

VM will. As far as I know even if Sky are trialling it they will be piggybacking off BT's FTTC rollout - which will do 40Mbit or less for most people

The 100Mbit figure probably comes from Ebbsfleet and Highams Park FTTH (I think)

Any rival cable network has to be potentially a good thing for everyone (in the UK).
Let's hope they get enough cash and interest to be able to extend it nationally, if that's the intention.

So is no one going to make the crack about Virgin Media('s cable) having been in the sewer for years?

My mum's had a hip replacement... anyway Parts of Bournemouth are full of people in their twilight years, but most of the population is made up by large families and students in general. You are likely to find all, or most of the old people centralised in Westbourne. So there.

Velocity1 has updated it's webpage with pricing for the Bournemouth Service, little astrix asys excludes £10 a month line rental, still pretty good pricing if you ask me, total cost of £20 month for 100meg line or £40 per month for calls, 100meg and fairly full TV package.

This is intriguing in the FUP.
"Customers affected by the fair usage policy will share bandwidth with each other and will be separated from other customers. The amount of bandwidth available for affected customers to share, will be at least as much as for those customers unaffected by the policy."

How would they do that?

There are several ways but it's essentially a bad boy pipe where all the heavy users can congest one another instead of causing performance issues for others.

These guys will be buying connectivity onto the FTTH network by the gigabit, take the top 5% of customers and give them 5% of the total bandwidth through QoS / Traffic Management, the other 95% are happier, that 5% upset as the usual contention ratio doesn't work for them.

Here's the first use of it that I'm aware of.

As oer several ways ;)

If the peeps are using PPP to log in so terminating on a BRAS could pop them all into their own IP range and rate limit that range by IP, if using DHCP and straight Ethernet could isolate them in their own VLAN, if using any of the above and in possession of a DPI appliance could use that instead.

Is that how they do the boost down loads for 10 times a month. Just divert you to another Network area Or is it just an auto speed limit over ride so there networK just has enough Speed For every one when they all hit Boost on Thursdays at 5pm in Bournemouth. As every PS3 owner would use it for Demo Downloads...

My name is Paul and I am currently working for Fibrecity. I am currently the data controller for Fibrecity Bournemouth.

Things are going well so far and we are aiming to get 20% of Bournemouth signed up by Christmas. Some initial work has started in the BH10 and BH11 postcodes in Bournemouth and we will shortly be announcing the first service provider to use our connection. The provider is in place but as everything is still not finalised we are not at liberty to announce this at this time.

From the calls and emails we have recieved we can see that a number of people have questions regarding the work we are doing so I thought I would post here and see if I can get some answers to any questions or concerns you may have (especially those of you in Bournemouth who have not yet signed up!!).

I previously worked for Virgin Media BBI tech support based in the Albert Dock for 2 years and during that time have leeched on Cable Forum to see what was happening and have often found out many useful things while browsing the forums. Indeed that was how I cam across this thread.

So if you guys have any questions please feel free to post them and I will do my best to get the answers for you.

Thanks in advance,

Paul

Hello Paul.
I live in the BH11 postcode and Fibre City have laid the cable and connected to my house - I now have the cable and connection box on the outside - I am not living in the property but will be moving in in May - can you tell me what I need to do now to get connected? I am presently with 02 mobile and they also do an Internet provider service which seems very good price but i am not sure if you are working with them as a provider? A bit of advice would be much appreciated please - thanks, Richard, Bournemouth.

Peter,

Firstly may I congratulate you, you jammy Bar Steward, lol! Which BH area do you live as I am in BH11 and have a cable connected to my house and to the rest of the street for a at least 2-3 weeks and still have heard nothing, I'm glad that some people are getting from where I am to some thing that works!

Another question, I assume from what you posted that you picked the Fibreband 100 and I wonder why at £50.00/month when for £30.00/month the Velocity1 Big Bundle seems to give the same internet speed (with 1Gbps boosts) same No. of TV channels and phone, did I miss something? I ask as when I am finally connected that is what I was thinking of getting, well with the £10 add on for the extra channels (The only thing I can see is that Fibreband actually tell you what upload speed you will get of 10Meg)

Cheers

i know, but as we are all aware virgin have always been a jump ahead of the competition, so there service on par to this means the only way they can compete and stay ahead is by price war :)
and i hope virgin will look alot further than the 10mbit upload especially as other countries are getting a better ratio Download:ping compared to us...

I have thoughts along the line of at the start of VM's rollout they will provision properly in the early stages, then to rush the complete rollout the rest will be done on the cheap.

Nah the whole lot will be done as cheaply as possible.

I will get a speedtest tonight when I'm at home and forward over, I've got quite a blurry picture of the device they put in so will attach that too.

Peter,

I know that this is in the internet servies section but I was wondering what the TV service was like, is a sky plus type unit with recording, pausing etc, I see that they mention HD TV, what channels do you get? Was wondering if there were any other interesting things about it? Have you been able to transfer your old phone number?

Hey everyone!
Seems like things are finally happening then.. they've dug up my road and I've seen guys putting boxes outside people's houses.

So.. I was wanderin which package to go for.

I phoned Velcocity and they came back to me sayin that I was due for an install next week. YES! Finally, its been ages.. although I'm not holding my breath! Has anyone gone with them? I'd like to get some feedback on their service.
I'm thinking of going with Fibreband and seeing their free trial? It's quite a bit more expensive as far as I can tell. (both sites are quite confusing to mee :dozey:)
Is anyone on the trial? Do they ask you for payment and stuff once it's over?
I'm not too bothered about the TV as I've got Sky but I'd quite like to have a trial, do you get to choose which package you try our or can you change mid-way so you can figure out which one you'd like to get kinda thing?
As for the phone, it doesn't look much better than what I have, free weekday calls would change things though ;)
Thanks

John

@FibrecityBmouth do you guys know if and when you'll be rolling out fibre in London?

Re: [Merged] 100mbps for Bournemouth

Hi guys,

In answer to the question about the TV, you do a get an HD Recorder for free. It has a 320Gb hard drive from what I can make out. With my Fibreband service I get what is essentially Freeview HD (check any Freeview website for the lineup) which is great for a second room or if you don't already have any HD services from Sky or Virgin. The box is by no means as nice or user friendly as the Sky or Virgin boxes but then it is completely free and I can't complain about the picture or sound.

With regards to the speedtest, I 100% agree with you Mr. FibreCityBmth, these sites just aren't setup for these kind of speeds. However if you do the speedtest from London on speedtest.net that seems to get it spot on. Other places like the Northern locations on there fall way short of what I actually get.

Re: [Merged] 100mbps for Bournemouth

Morning all.

@BussyBear - Hi Matt, please send me your full postcode via PM and I will have a look at this for you no problem.

@crazyronnie - No word yet, however we will be announcing new Fibrecity projects shortly with more to follow!

@peterlovenoise - Thanks for the heads up on the speedtest from London, I will certainly have a look into this. Our technical guys are looking into developing something which will be more accurate, I will keep you updated on this. Do you mind if I ask how you found your installation experience? Anything that we should be looking to improve on?

Any other questions/feedback would be appreciated, I can then pass this on to the relevant people/teams try and improve the service being offered.

Regards

Re: [Merged] 100mbps for Bournemouth

Good news people!

I have now been installed with VelocityOne, they came earlier today about 20 minutes after the Fibre city man.
The set top box isn't as ugly as you guys have been talking about but the TV doesn't work :S
I did a speed test and can only get 47MbPs and rather worryingly it says 2Mb up? Is that something to worry about?
I'm also a lil confused about what to do with the other Set Box, the velocity people didn't seem to want to take it back.

Hi John_82,

Interesting about your Velocity 1 speed, of course the website doesn't make it very clear what upload speed you'll get there, but it's a little worrying to hear it is so low. Let us know if you get anywhere with it.

Re: [Merged] 100mbps for Bournemouth

Hi all! First post so hope I get it right!

Message is really aimed at Paul from Fibrecity, I live on Anchor Road, Bournemouth, BH11 9HU, we had a letter some months ago from Fibrecity telling us that you were connecting the properties in our area.

All went well, the yellow lines were marked on the pavement to show yout guys where to dig and the connection box was fitted to the front of our property.

A couple of weeks later a team of contractors arrived in the area they dug up the pavements on literally all the roads around us installed the cable and then disappeared leaving Anchor Road untouched, other than for the yellow lines of course!!

This was weeks ago and there has been no sign of anyone from Fibrecity or their contractors since then.

Paul, I am concerned that our road has been missed/overlooked, can you look into this and let me know what is hapenning and when we are likely to be connected please.

There is a sense of deja vu here, when Nynex/Virgin installed cable into this area many years ago they too stopped installing only a street away from our area and never came back........hopefully Fibrecity are better than them??

Re: [Merged] 100mbps for Bournemouth

@SwirlHow

Hi there, thanks for your message.

I will check this out with our project team for you. If the connection box was fitted to the outside wall then this street should be getting connected, indeed it is listed on all of our data and rollout plans so I see no reason why not.

I will send you a PM once I have spoken to our team to confirm everything for you. If you would like to PM me your full postal address I can enquire when your property will be completed for you.

I'll get right on the case for you.

Re: [Merged] 100mbps for Bournemouth

John_82,

I was wondering if there has been any improvement on the speeds that you are getting from Velocity1? I hope so as when the installtion is completed here, I'm in a similar boat as, SwirlHow, I was thinking of going with Velocity1!

Re: [Merged] 100mbps for Bournemouth

Hi,

After about a week of using velocity one. I am still not seeing much improvement. I phoned them and they scheduled a time for one of their engineers to come around and look at the Set Top Box but they failed to show. So I am only using the Internet at the moment. I've done a speedtest which was recommended by Velocity and can still only get 2-4 Mb/ps Upload. The download is between 30 and 55 so far. I don't mind this, I mean it's still a lot faster than what I had before but I was told it would be 100. They also said that the boost thing doesn't work properly at the moment. I feel as though it's all a bit up in the air- but I'm not paying at the moment. I'm also wondering what to do with the two additional set top boxes that I have been given from Velocity.. surely they would want them back? Someone up the road from me is with Fibreband so I'll try and do a comparison sometime on the speeds.
I got offered a free trial from them so I might take that up and plug both in and see which is best...

Let me know when you guys get installed :)

John

damn, close but no cigar, 2 neighbouring cities.

I have sent them an email begging them to do my area, telling them its there for the taking with BT's attitude to it. VM also problematic round here so someone like fibrecity would have an easy time of it.

Re: [Merged] 100mbps for Bournemouth

Those of you already with fibreband or velocity packages in Bournemouth, what hardware is needed to get wireless coverage in the house. Does either or both of the suppliers provide modem or modem/router? Do I have to buy a seperate router to get wireless?

thanks for your help

Hi,

Is there any news when the BH7 area might start getting this? I've read people get post about an install happening soon, but I've just received absolutely nothing.

Really wanting to get onto this asap as I'm getting tired of living 2KM away from the telephone exchange it Christchurch and just suffering from poor ~4meg speeds.

Ken

Re: [Merged] 100mbps for Bournemouth

Ken1988, you might want to ask over at FibreForum they have members of Fibrecity and, even better, the mighty Fibreband answering questions over there.

NorViking, also probably worth a look over at Fibreforum for your question but I can tell you that you will have to buy your own wireless router to get wireless coverage. I use the Linksys WRT320N, which does the trick as it has four gig ports!

Re: [Merged] 100mbps for Bournemouth

And the rollout partly stops for fibercity

http://www.thinkbroadband.com/news/4...urnemouth.html

Plans to lay fibre through the sewer system in Bournemouth have ground to a halt after Wessex Water refused to allow i3 Fibrecity (H2O Networks) to deploy using their patented FS System

Re: [Merged] 100mbps for Bournemouth

And it gets worse

http://www.thinkbroadband.com/news/4...-february.html

Users of the Fibrecity network in Bournemouth have been without a connection since the end of February when the firm, now owned by City Fibre Holdings, suspended access to it's retail broadband partners which include Velocity1 and Fibreband.

I wonder if FibrecityBmouth (Paul) will turn up again, letting us know everything is fine, not to worry, and he will check with the project team.........

Re: [Merged] 100mbps for Bournemouth

I doubt that, last I heard was there was only a small team left going around filling in holes left in the pavements from the installations with even the borough council also having to repair pavements as residents were complaining about the mess left behind.

Some forum Mod has been playing silly games with moving topics around this was allready in the other ISP section before. They messed it up when Merging posts again. lol

BT FTTC is now taking orders on 3 Bournemouth exchanges to get it back on topic.
So if your City fibre has been killed it will be a while before they can Move you to BT as a replacement...

Re: [Merged] 100mbps for Bournemouth

Yep lol that was the hole Idea of them being allowed in bournemouth.
Council got the fibre installed for there buildings for Free and another ISP provider gets to use the Fibre set up that's already in place For virtually nothing.
The only people who lose out is RBS as I expect they give Fibrecity the start up loan.
Whos failure to collect the loan repayments likely mean they lost another few million. but when they lost a few billion allready millions won't matter...
