Slight difference of course in that United were a well-established (some would say the TRUE) premiership-title winning side for several years before this spending spree. Chelsea were never considered one of the big 4 (or big 5, 6, etc) before Roman turned up.

Plus I think Chelsea spent a little more than £50m ;)

Got a feeling if any deal is done it will be a loan deal, with an actual full transfer this time next year, the problem is though, he has a playing contract with us and we don't want him to go, so unless he really wants to move, he'll still be with us next season

What no one has ever turned Man Utd down before, he has already turned Inter down and if we try hard enough we could well convince him his future lies with us, even if we just see how it goes until January, loyalty and commitment to the fans aren't alien words to this guy

Not beeing a hammer I can't say how the fans will feel if he were to leave West Ham for Man U, but considering he was almost solely responsible for you staying up, I dont think there would be too many fans moaning at him wanting to go to Man U.

He is hero worshipped and has always been a favourite even when things were tough for him, I am sure he'll always get a warm welcome when he comes back but I am not convinced he'll go, partly due to your 'getting us into Europe' line, when he first arrived he said he wanted to emulate his hero Maradona at Napoli, there is absolutely no chance of that at Man Utd, he'll just be another big fish in a big pond

I think the theory there is, "Always ask for more than you know you might get".

The premier league has thrown their case out, an abitration panel has voted against their case, and I think the High Court will follow suit, unless McCabe knows otherwise, plus the hammers have been fined 5.5 million pounds, however,
Quote:

The three-man arbitration panel, headed by retired High Court judge Sir Philip Otton, did not have the power to change West Ham's punishment but could have ordered a new independent commission to judge the case.
As one decision was not possible, but the next best thing was possible but not granted, usually means, "You are wasting your time".

The only thing I don't understand is why did West Ham withold the third party interest, when signing the Argentinians, knowing it was against the rules.

It does seem a bit suspect I have to say. Maybe Panorama should investigate :)

So is Davies. He certainly ****ed on us in the playoffs. Cohen and Lennon in the middle, with Perch, Clingan and McGugan as backup, with commo left and Davies right, we will walk League 1 Leeds or no Leeds.

He seems keen on the move -

Quote:

"I am a player who thrives on challenges. I went to England to triumph in the Premiership and with West Ham I have achieved that first stage.

"Now I'm ready to move on to the next stage. To be a member of Sir Alex Ferguson's squad will be absolutely spectacular. "My dream is to be an idol in English football and I can achieve this now."

There seems to be a few complications with the transfer as the Premier league are sticking their noses in but i think it will happen and it will be another excellent signing for the club :tu:

Hmmm, Tevez is highly ambitious, he won't turn United down.

WHU could do with a handy way of paying the £5m fine plus get a decent player - they should be able to get someone decent for £15m and use the rest of his transfer fee on the fine.

He might be! Tbh I have been suspicious all summer, mainly due to us being linked to expensive strikers, it was either Ashton's injury being much worse than reported or we were selling him, it looked like both Pardew and Curbs didn't know what to do with Carlito, playing him on the right wing for instance, it was only when Curbs looked completely shell shocked towards the end he played him up front

Considering we paid the fine within a week of getting it and bid £17 000 000 for a player I'd say money wasn't an issue for us

Dundee have revealed that they turned down new Real Madrid boss Bernd Schuster when he wanted to become boss at Dens Park in 2000. (Daily Record)

When you consider his reputation, even then, I wonder why they didn't want him?

Jose must be shaking in his Loafers...

Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho insists Manchester United will be under pressure to succeed this season after a big-spending summer.

Mourinho has been cautious, while United have spent around £50m. He said: "Manchester United's spending is something that we don't control, we don't want to control - we don't comment, we don't want to comment.
Odd that he has commented though

Just a bit of news about Tevez from the United website.....(No he hasn't signed yet).

Quote:

Gabriel Heinze admits he encouraged Carlos Tevez to choose United, despite interest in the striker from a host of top European clubs.

And although the 23-year-old's transfer has hit a snag, media reports today suggest the deal may be completed by the weekend.

Heinze, who is currently playing alongside Tevez for Argentina in the Copa America competition, told Icons.com he has held detailed discussions with the West Ham player about life at Old Trafford.

"I told him that he is going to receive a lot of help to make progress," Heinze said. "It is a team that gives you a lot of prestige, both personal and professional. And he is going there at the right time. He is 23 years old so what else could he ask for?
But as far as Heinze is concerned.....

Quote:

"I still don't know what I am going to do," Heinze admitted. "I'm going to start thinking about that after the Copa America. The interest in me from important teams such as Liverpool,:disturbd: Juventus and Real Madrid makes me feel proud, but I feel very comfortable in Manchester and I'm grateful for everything I've experienced there."
On a personal note, I hope Heinze stays put.

Agree with the last sentiment, I have always liked the full blooded commitment of Heinze, very hard to choose between him and Evra, apart from the number of free kicks he gives away. he can play central defence if pushed. It would be a shame if he left now, a few good years left in him yet and the competition between him and Evra would keep them both on their toes.

Been reading this today

Now this sounds like a case of tapping someone up as i'm sure Arsenal never gave them permission to talk to Fabregas but I doubt anything will be done about it.

Just going back to the possible Tevez move to Utd for a moment....
As I understand it, West ham signed Tevez and Maschereno in the same deal via their so called agent...........so my question is, "How did Liverpool pull off the Maschereno deal without any hiccup" ?

It all seems a bit strange :erm:

The hiccup was that Liverpool offered them (MSI) a lot more money per season for him and under the terms of the third party agreement we had no power to stop him from moving, that is what has got us in all the trouble in the first place, tbh if I were you guy's I'd seriously consider who you are getting into bed with here, I wish we had last season, the whole thing has been a complete mess, compounded now by allegations of organised crime and money laundering levied against MSI, who have incidentally had their assets frozen, which presumably means Tevez and Macherano have an appointment at the cryogenics lab

Here is the most balanced, well researched report I have seen since the whole sorry saga started, kind of makes the likes of 'honest Dave Whealan' look like the ill informed morons we all suspected they were

Rangers are another, there has been a lot of gossip about the other being Sheff Utd as it looks like their share price has been manipulated over the past few weeks, although imo that has more to do with people getting excited and deflated over court dates and outcomes etc but I have to admit I would find it so funny if it were true, oh the irony

Evra is a better player than Heinze, so not a big loss especially as he hasn't been the same player since his injury last year.

Best bit of business we have done all summer this - http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/foot...nd/6901589.stm :)

5.5 Million is a lot of money for a player of his ability especially as it looks like Heinze will only be going for about 1 million more who is a much better player.

Glad he's gone but just worried that means we will still rely on Giggs too much and as i've stated before I don't think he can deliver any more at the level we require. Hopefully these new guys will make the grade and take some of the burden off of Giggs

dont think that is the reason there Russ...I think that he just wont be getting a regular 1st team place at Arsenal due to too many better younger fitter players that can play at the same position that Freddie played at ;)

I'm not going to say that arsenal are going to win anything AGAIN this season but hey look at the average age of the squad... with ManU it'll be Scholes, Giggs and some others that are going to retire next season.
