I saw Avril Lavigne trying to play live on TV about 3 nights ago for some SARS benefit concert thingy in Toronto, she was absolutely dreadful, maybe she's got a touch of it herself but holy jesus I've not heard such poor singing since Daphne and Celeste did Reading Festival (cue bottles of p*ss!)

i said she cant sing live i dont how many times i have addmited that quite a few though

Should be interesting, but will she be as influential as Kate has been.

As for not being able to sing ....... most ppl relate that to the Wuthering Height single. The later version on "The Whole Story" was much improved. You should give her a listen, she is very well respected, something Avril can only achieve with time.

Maybe she can, but attitude won't win all the battles ...

I also think Rubberband man was a good example of kate's dancing ability and singing ability

all artists will go through transitional periods of changing there image to suit the times she(avril) makes the music because she wants to and the fans have responded to that and having heard her(avrils) earlier work it has that country slow/rapid pace about it she can change styles easily and it suits her voice too :)

I don't disagree at all, all artist can and will change their image to accomodate their fan base, it's just to what degree they change.

Avril's attitude to some people and the attitude portrayed in the videos appeals to a certain age/group, as she gets older this will change. Has she got the versatility to change her music to accomodate a wider variety of listener.

By comparison, Britney Spears has changed to accomodate her needing to change from a teenage pop thing, into someone who is trying to appeal to a wider variety of ppl and gaining the respect of other artists.

Can you see Avril doing the same thing relatively. If so then will it go against the carefully crafted image she has. She needs to be careful not to alienate the fan base she has. She will not be able to continue the 'angry 18 yr old rocker' image.

i dont think its certain age groups as the board i visit has varying ages and they all like her as i said before she CAN change her style all artists do and listen to 'get over it' and it marks a change in styles or if you want to see an even greater change ' temple of life' is completly diffarent in terms of music and style to what she shows as now

'In defense of Avril's live performances. I am a musican, and I have played outside and in small clubs before. Sometimes the P.A. sound equipment isn't always the best. Also you have to play at such high volumes it's hard to hear your vocals in the monitors. Avril has been playing huge halls and stadiums that are so cavernous that the sound kinda runs together anyway.

I've seen her perform some of her songs with just acoustic guitar and vocal and I think she sings fine.'

Avril is better than a lot of bands today. I'm not saying I would buy her stuff (because I wouldn't) but Avril songs are better than most girl/boy bands these days

Top Ten Reasons to Hate Avril Lavigne

1. Avril DID NOT get her success based on her talent. She debuted on frikin MTV. She sold her soul to the devil when she signed that record contract, just like she's selling out. Her band was "given" to her, she didn't meet them.

Her cd doesn't list her for guitar credits at all.

4. Avril DID NOT start any trends. She rode on existing trends, capitalizing on their popularity. I am angry that anyone would laud Avril for "bringing back the tie on girls". Alternative girls across the country have been wearing ties since the early 90s. The SPICE GIRLS, were wearing ties before Avril. Get this, Avril has a STYLIST. In fact, she has many stylists, ready to scout out another trend, making a comeback. She is the client of Stephanie Wolf, who goes and gets the ties etc. FOR Avril.


5. Avril CAN NOT skate. She could skate her way out of a gaping hole in a half pipe. Quoth the loser -"I like wiping out and hurting myself and crying. And I like to show off my bruises. And, me and the guys just like to mess around on them, even though we all suck."

She was rude accepting her VMA award, but then got drunk off her ass afterwards. She was kicked out of hotels for disturbing the other people there. She thought she was funny, and um, witty. She stole a strawberry from a hotel cart. (how bad ass...) She was acting stupid in a bar (she's 17, 18?) with Sum 41, trashed it, and thought it was funny when they gave her a wedgie.

7. Avril's music SUCKS! She sounds like a ****ing country singer, for the first part. In fact, she was supposed to be marketed as one. Her favorite band is Hanson. Then she tries, um, RAPPING? Next thing we know there'll be Shanikwa Lablingbling. Are her lyrics DEEP? hmmm... "She was a girl, he was a boy" blah blah blah complete ****! She's not the cheerios in somebody's spoon, how deep!!! In "Mobile" she complains about having to go on tour, and other crap. This was written before she even became famous, how the hell would SHE know?

8. Avril is a COMPLETE DUMBASS! But what do you expect from a high school dropout who spells boy with an "i"? She looks like one too, underneath those 2 tons of whorish eye make-up. In her interview with YM, she was going on and on about getting married and other stupid fantasies of hers. She talked about the "thing the guy has to lift off of the girl's face to kiss her"... She doesn't know that it's called a veil?! She got fired from some chicken place, nobody really gives a ****, but then she had to sing a SONG about it.

9. Avril's PAST is a lie. She is just like Vanilla Ice, making up things to make her more hardcore. In reality, she was raised to be a christian school girl. She was a cheerleader. She sang at fairs. She sang COUNTRY music at those fairs. She wanted to be like Martina McBride or Shania Twain. Quoth her former manager- "She didn't know Blink 182 from Madonna".

10. Avril will not be, nor has ever been a SKATER PUNK. She is not skater, she is no punk. The two things are different, distinct movements/styles/musical genres and she is neither. She couldn't name a Ramones song to save her life! Yes, she DID say she was punk. She's even bared her undies, that read "Punk Princess". She's worn pins with "Kiss me, I'm Punk" on them. I particularly like the quote on another site that states all Avril Lavigne fans used to worship NSync, in your case I can probably accept that. You also brought up some crap the other day about her guitar playing, saying that anyone in an arena/stadium would have problems. I for one have seen a lot of bands play in stadiums/festivals and the majority of them do a great job, so again, why is Avril so completely and utterly crap live? (and why does she pretend to play the guitar?) and!!!! It's time you stopped blaiming the record company for her faults/lies/talentlessness.

Most pop stars are not successful because they are talented. Look at Westlfe for proof of that. As for her band being "given" to her, that's not unusual.. A lot of bands over the last 40 years, and particularly the last 20 have been altered by the record companies.

Status Quo have made a career out of not being able to play the guitar.. :D Anyway, the guitarist I have heard play with her is good, as are the session musicans. And if she did say that she sucked at guitar playing, no one could accuse her of hyping her talents.

Wouldn't be the first pop/rock start that trashed something and started fighting. Look at Oasis. Hell, you can look back to the Rolling Stones, I am sure they've trashed a few hotel rooms..

It may have taken Avril years of touring to become famous, so she could well have had enough experience to say touring is crap.

I have to admit, with any singing artist, rapping is rarely a good idea.

As for the "deep lyrics". God, she writes pop songs. How many pop songs can you think of with deep lyrics?

As for her being Punk, well, no, she probably hasn't heard of the Ramones, but I think today's punk movement is more of a fashion thing than the Punk movement of the late 70s/early 80s, I doubt any of the more commercial "punk" bands have heard of them..

Anyway, having said all that, as I have said in other posts, we don't all have to like the same music, and the world would be boring if we did..

The only thing I know about her is that musically I find her cringeworthy, she is unable to sing live and she looks like a boy .. I'm sure she's great other than that (apart from the whole Canadian thing ;) )

Anyway, if you don't like Avril, don't listen to her and don't worry about her. I don't worry about singers and bands I hate..

er ... like I said, I've seen loads of bands play live in arenas/stadiums/festivals most of them were fantastic live. And like I said before, her singing and guitar playing live, regardless of what venue it was at ... was beyond attrocious, cue bottles of p*ss!
