The EU's new rules on net neutrality will hopefully put an end to this traffic shaping nonsense.

Well there's someone who won't be voting UKIP.

If I was going to be a closet racist, I'd vote BNP, not diet bigot.

Woke up this morning with no broadband. Rebooted the SHUB and it eventually came back, but it's not pretty:

Annoyingly, power levels and such seem fine, 8 DS locked but 1 US is "Aborted". Not at home to do more thorough testing.

I also did a speed test, you wouldn't think anything was wrong:

I reported the same problem in another thread but no one replied, is it worth contacting virgin about?

It's always worth contacting them. I doubt our problems are related as I'm in Warrington.

Always worth phoning up (UK) to see if they're doing anything in your area.

What about the neighbours, Kush?

Re: Think Broadband Ping Monitor Results (POST YOURS)

No idea on the neighbours, Seph, I'll have to check when I get home. I can VPN in though, so the connection can't be that bad (And the ping graph has calmed down a bit, it seems)- I just can't reboot the hub (unless someone can point me to a way of doing this remotely?).

Just for completeness, here's the stats:

https://www.cableforum.co.uk/images/...2014/05/14.png

https://www.cableforum.co.uk/images/...2014/05/15.png

As you can see, everything except that particular upstream seems to check out.

I'm hoping that another reboot will get it back on, but if not then hopefully even on a single upstream I should still have a usable connection. The wife has a raid tonight, so that'll be a good test!

I had a similar outage according to the graph, but I can't VPN in from work to check levels, although my levels are **** anyway.

Run it off a switched PDU or hook it up to some low-voltage embedded device with a relay? :p:

I've got a raspberry Pi, I'm sure there's a blue-peter-esque way of combining that with some sticky-back-plastic to create such a thing.

But frankly I'd rather use it to watch cheap films.

Hehe. Well Raspberry Pis (or Virgin Media DIR-615's) are actually ideal platforms for build-it-yourself solutions like that. All you'd need is a 12v power supply and a transistor. And a few lines of code. You could still easily use it for watching "cheap films" as well.

I've been tempted to build similar things with a DIR-615 and some relay switches for 240v sockets (commercial products cost £30+ per socket), but that's slightly more dangerous when you get it wrong than a 12v supply to a Superhub.

As fun as that sounds, my electrical engineering is a bit rubbish. Or rather, non-existant.

On the bright side, finally home and rebooted - back to normal, it seems!

I've even got my 2 "other" upstreams showing again. I yearn for the day when they become active so we can maybe get back to 10:1 (or better).

Well, it's extremely likely both will arrive at the same time.
