Re: General TiVo Discussion Part 2

Have ordered the 500G box.

With my current V+HD box I take the SD output from the VCR scart (works when the Box is in HD) and via an RF modulater send the out put to another TV in a different room. This works fine although menues dont show as the scart dosent support overlays.

Does anyone know if I can do the same with the single scart on the back of the TiVo box?

Sorry if this has been discussed already.

Yes it will, and menus will display as well

I just got a new TV (albeit 2010 model) and that popped up few times - i first thought it was the TV but quick google pointed to an HDMI handshake problem between Tivo and TV

the post i read recommended updating TV software - i checked for my TV and there was an update - i installed it 30 seconds and it hasn't happened since

give that a try -failing that try a new HDMI lead or clean the one you've got and make sure it's not running near a power lead - HDMI leads are notoriously flaky connection - but they are cheap

Very true :D:D But it shows that they have learned something off of VM with having a none DVR as well:confused:

I like this bit of the statement?

TiVo Premiere Q brings a number of benefits to operators deploying whole home solutions. TiVo Premiere Q is unique in that it supports 4 simultaneous recordings and the ability to view streaming broadband content, while at the same time supporting up to 3 HD streams over a MoCA or Ethernet home network. It is also the only STB of its kind that integrates a bridge between the MoCA and Ethernet networks to simplify and reduce the cost of installation, allowing the Premiere Q to easily connect to existing home networks.

That would be nice having a forth tuner as 3 sometimes is not enough.

I would like that but setup in the same way V+ was in that the 4th is always available to change channel etc so still recording 3 in the background.

I think we have missed the boat on that one though. :)

This will be different hardware so will not be the VM Tivo and a new USA platform for Tivo themselves.

If the drop padding issue is resolved when you have back to back recordings each having padding set) then 3 tuners are fine enough for me.

Nice to have more but not really essential IMHO.

Right first proper fiddle around today with TIVO a friend has just had the 500gb installed within the last week here's my views.

Menu Speeds on the whole were pretty good , once or twice going into My shows was a little sluggish but nothing to bad. The search and browse feature was pretty nice and I like the way it finds shows as your typing , a little gripe here is how you enter the text.

The graphics and general epg look nice and will be even better if all screens get updated with HD. I had a quick play with the YouTube app which I found ok.

I didn't play around with some of the other good stuff like wishlists and series links as obviously the box isn't mine but he assured me the wishlist had picked up shows he'd asked , he thought the series link was a pain and agreed global padding would be a good thing.
