I am not sure but DF maybe able to say if VM monitor the thread?

It's not an official portal, but we are feeding back to VM about anything we see.

Most things people are posting about are things we are already aware of and we're picked up our trialists :)

What was disappointing in general was the tv they used. They should use a better tv to show off the V+ and Tivo boxes.

The one I was in used a 50" Samsung and the menu looked pin sharp, the quality of the HD widescreen menus was outstanding, I really can't wait to get my hands on one of these.

For me, apart from the larger hard drive, there is no longer as much of a desire to have a Tivo at present. There are too many reasons, such as no third tuner (Coming soon), problems with padding, un-initiated reboots, no red button and most importantly, poor sd picture quality. These are all features that we already have on the V+. I am very happy with both of my V+ boxes. They give me no trouble whatsoever. Why would I want to fork out more dosh to be an early adopter of an as yet unproven technology?

If you are concerned then it may be best to hold back. You can always have a test drive of TiVo in your local Virgin Media Store?

Did I miss the bit in the thread title which said only post here if you think Tivo is perfect?

Sorry Hugh, the above is not meant to be offensive, but it's the impression I'm starting to get.

I'm enthusistic about tivo and think it's going to be way bettr than V+ but I refuse to put put blinkers on and pretend it doesn't have things on it that the V+ does better.

I know it's not released yet, but that shouldn't stop people posting their concerns, and accurate guide data is the cornerstone of a PVR.

pb, I wasn't trying to be offensive - if it came across that way, my apologies.

But, there are a number of posters who want it
a) now (if not sooner)
b) perfect
c) do other stuff that no one has thought of
d) just like to have a bitch about one or all of the above

It's only a bit of kit, for heaven's sake - it's hard to believe the amount of emotion and vitriol that is being raised about it.

Back to the point of your reply - I was trying to be light-hearted, but obviously epic failed, by trying to point out that VM isn't making anyone buy/try/trial this, and if some don't want to buy/try/trial this because of what they have read on this and other forums, it means another one is available for those who do, and perhaps don't have such high/critical standards.

btw, there's a huuuuuuuuge difference between accepting that a new piece of kit will have some issues and having blinkers (imho - ymmv).

At this point it seems like Virgin are charging £3 a month for a bigger HDD. :p:

Plus 10 Meg BB internally ;)

Plus more than 7 days EPG

Plus better search :)

Plus the Kudos of saying you have one on here :p:

Thanks for that Hugh.

I think the problem some people are having is that the functionality the V+ offers is more than enough for them, but with only 20 hours HD recording, because of all the HD channels VM have added, 20 hours is not enough. The only option is tivo, which adds an extra 3 pounds PM for things they don't want/need and they see a couple of things that V+ appears to do better (SD PQ seems to be a personal opinion).

Personally, I really want the added functionality of tivo and although I would prefer it to be free, I understand the need or a 3 pound charge. I just hope the way tivo handles SD and padding dosen't dissapoint (3 recordable tuners will help with padding and is a massive plus over V+)

I look at the overall functionality, and for my requirments, Tivo wins hands down, but the V+ has some great features that shouldnt be ignored. Which is why I, and others, post about them in comparison to tivo.

Still no phone call to me or a email sent to me about Tivo, when you have pre registered one would expected something by now.

Actually the point above about having a 10mb internal modem got me thinking. Don't the existing V+ boxes have modems built in too? If so, what kind of speeds are allocated to them?

To paraphrase an earlier poster on the opposite end of the spectrum of comments -

"Now, that's what I class as a really inteligent and detailed response to a post making legitimate points about tivo.

Did I miss the bit in the thread title which said only post here if you think Tivo is rubbish?

The TiVo modem is capable of 20meg with a software update. Modems in older boxes are around 1-2 meg.

Come on peeps can we all just get a grip and be real about this as most people who are coming on here are trying to find out about TIVO and not the bickering, bitching and inane posts that have cover so many of the last ? pages:

I have not received a call so i am going to rant on here - What will that do?
I did not receive a flyer so ia ma going to rant on here - What will that do?

Rant to VM and the last word is toGET A GRIP

WE ALL KNOW THAT PEOPLE ARE NOT HAPPY BUT WHAT CAN WE DO ABOUT IT.

RANT OVER
