DAZN have bid for EFL rights in a move that will end the 3pm blackouts, they also want the EPL too. https://inews.co.uk/sport/football/d...t-rule-2241155

An interesting proposal as it’s undoubtedly the clubs at this level (and below) that are holding the game back. By forcing the end of the 3pm blackout they could force the hand of the Premier League to follow suit when their rights come up for renewal, in turn making available a number of packages that the fledgeling former streamer - as they now have a linear channel - might actually be able to afford.

They do raise a fairly legitimate point that illegal streaming is so widespread for anyone who really wants to see 3pm games they can. I legitimately subscribe to 3 overseas services - so it doesn’t need to be piracy for 3pm games.

Why would you believe that a streamer on its own is cheaper than a streamer AND a linear channel?

If 99% of homes are now connected to broadband as you claim, the advantages of having an additional linear channel are receding very quickly.

He said 97%…

(the 2% difference is around half a million homes…)

Sorry, my bad, I must have misremembered. However, in the scheme of things, that 2% doesn’t really make much difference.

And jfman still has not answered my question.

Bet it doesn't, the prem prefer the less is more approach when it comes to games shown and feel the product could be watered down with to many low quality games. Still the 3pm blackout is odd, an anomaly shared with by ourselves, Scotland and moldova of all places iirc

Half a million homes at a market penetration of 20% is a £24m a year to a £20 pcm streamer, OB. There’s entire countries with television markets of half a million homes.

At what point does a linear channel cease to provide a return on investment? This of course setting aside additional revenue from greater visibility on the largest platforms in the UK.

The 97% figure relates to coverage, not take-up of superfast broadband services which will be lower.

Perhaps not, but I suspect it’s DAZN’s thinking.

Of course we are also outliers in respect of not every game being available (on some level) on TV.

Are Warner Bros Discovery set to launch new BT Sports branded channel soon on Virgin?

epsilon did post the following on April 6th on DS Forum:

Quote:

BT Sport 5 hasn't been flagged as HD in its new slot but TS 23 is a HD transport stream so possibly just mis-flagged.
NOTE: BT Sport 5 was on the same stream as other Red Button (from Sky and BT) Sports channels before April 6th.

Nope. WBD will probably squeeze the four BT and two Eurosport channels into five TNT channels in July.

In the meantime, WBD plan to cancel Score.

The 2 Eurosport channels won't become TNT Sports until a later date supposedly after the Paris Olympics.

Eurosport will stay as they are for now.
