Apparently, Germany don't want to be seen to be helping too much as they get a lot of their gas from Russia (and probably the veiled nuclear threat too).

Although we only get about 5% from Russia, the fact that Germany will need more gas from elsewhere will lead to gas (and electric) prices rocketing even more for us and everywhere else.

That's just changed - the German Chancellor has stated to the Bundestag today
Quote:

Key policy points from Scholz:

- over 2%/GDP for defence
- €100bn special fund for defence
- two new LNG terminals
- supplementary coal and gas reserves
- accelerated renewables roll-out
- new Bundeswehr deployments in NATO eastern flank states

Should I ask for the glass to be already whitewashed or do it myself?

Be some helluva whitewash if it can withstand a couple of atmospheres of overpressure from a delivery of instant sunshine...

TOKYO, Feb 27 (Reuters) - Japan will join the United States and other Western countries in blocking certain Russian banks to the SWIFT international payment system, Prime Minister Fumio Kishida said on Sunday.

Tokyo will put sanctions on Russian President Vladimir Putin and extend $100 million in emergency humanitarian aid to Ukraine, Kishida also told reporters.

Worrying, but not unexpected.

Where's this been reported?

Putin places Russia’s nuclear deterrent forces on high alert
Max Seddon in Moscow

Vladimir Putin has placed Russia’s strategic deterrence forces — including units in charge of its nuclear capabilities — on high alert in response to “illegitimate western sanctions” over Russia’s war in Ukraine.

Russia’s president told Sergei Shoigu, Russia’s defence minister, and chief of general staff Valery Gerasimov on Sunday that “western countries aren’t only taking unfriendly economic actions against our country [ . . .] but leaders of major Nato countries are making aggressive statements about our country”, at a meeting in the Kremlin shown on state TV.

“I order to move Russia’s deterrence forces to a special regime of duty,” Putin said.

Did none of Putin’s generals advise him, that Ukraine may fight back?

Why am I thinking of this from Blackadder at the moment.

Quote:

Edmund: You see, Baldrick, in order to prevent war in Europe, two superblocs developed: us, the French and the Russians on one side, and the Germans and Austro-Hungary on the other. The idea was to have two vast opposing armies, each acting as the other’s deterrent. That way there could never be a war.

Baldrick: But this is a sort of a war, isn’t it, sir?

Edmund: Yes, that’s right. You see, there was a tiny flaw in the plan.

George: What was that, sir?

Edmund: It was bollocks.

Re: Russia has invaded Ukraine

If a nuclear bomb were to be dropped on the Ukraine, are any other countries likely to retaliate by dropping one on Russia?

If they do, innocent people will suffer and it may lead to annihilation of a lot of the world.

If they don't, it's a green light to Putin that he can invade whoever he wants.

From a selfish point of view, would a nuclear bomb targeted at the Ukraine directly affect the UK? I can't seem to find an answer.

Oddly, whilst trying to find out the above early this morning, I went onto YouTube and it recommended a nuclear survival video. I had been searching about the subject, so that would explain it. However, lots of the comments were from people who had all been recommended the video out of the blue at the same time.

I wonder if YouTube were privy to this information before it was released by the media, or if a word had been had in their ear by Government(s) to try and get this information out without trying to alarm people too much.

The way i look at it is i have no control of what is happening and cannot stop it happening. So why get all worried about it. If it happens it happens

If you put the word nuclear in the search it would have recommend based on that
