No, he didn't say that at all.

I was listening and he said that there will be "Female involvement", be it a co-presenter, driver or contributor.

I personally think there will be a woman involved as a co-presenter (Suzi Perry being my personal choice as not only a petrolhead but someone who knows motorsports very well and has great connections in that field) and there's nothing wrong with that.

The Guardian report quoted above contained this:

Evans has said the programme will definitely have a female co-presenter and also hinted on his Radio 2 breakfast show on Wednesday that May could also return.

I guess a lot depends on whether Evans wants to do something new or just carry on where the old crew left off with a few tweaks...

My own personal preference out of Suzy Perry and Jodie Kidd. Not knocking Suzy at all, but while I know she is a petrol head and knows her stuff regarding motor racing, I find her style of presenting grates slightly. I prefer Jodie Kidd because she is also a massive petrol head, actually races cars (as well as going to various formula 1 races) and I find her more entertaining.

I've also seen her handle the kind of laddish banter Top Gear is known for brilliantly, should they wish to go down that route again.

Was trying to think of her name. She'd be brilliant as well.

Well, the Guardian are talking nonsense then. Evans even said himself that the Newspaper reports of open auditions for co-presenters wasn't accurate either.

As always, don't believe what you read unless if it is from the horses mouth. of course, as Evans has shown himself, don't always believe that either.

Sabine Schmitz would be good.. Here is some video of her driving a nervous looking Hammond around the Nurburgring in a Transit and also trying to beat the time Jeremy set when he drove around in an S-type. She gets bloody close. A brilliant attempt, considering how much larger and how much less powerful the transit is.

I don't always believe stuff that IS from the horse's mouth. IIRC it wasn't that long ago that Evans ruled himself out of the TG running...

I thought he said on The One show last night the co-hosts will be 2 members of the viewing public, who must show they are car nuts, and a mechanic would be a good change.

Which implies the planet wide treks are still on.

I've been winding up work saying I've applied, all I need is a Lotto win so I can quit saying I got the job :D

A short list is being compiled for a replacement for Mr. Hammond.

I wonder if they mean by viewers they mean Youtubers who have experience at presenting and wont have to be trained.

JEREMY Clarkson revealed yesterday that he ruled out a sensational return to Top Gear after “someone from the BBC” compared him to paedophile DJ Jimmy Savile.

The sacked presenter, 55, said he was asked by a senior executive at the Corporation about a comeback on the motor show.

But he declined the offer and says “too much has gone on” — including the comparison to late pervert Savile, who hosted Beeb hit Top of the Pops.

Speaking days after bosses handed his old job to Chris Evans, Clarkson — who now plans a rival car programme — said: “I had a meeting with a BBC executive last week and they asked if I’d come back to Top Gear.

“But it was never an option, even with the one million people signing the Bring Back Clarkson petition — for which I was extremely humbled.

“Too much has gone on. After I’d been compared to Jimmy Savile by someone from the BBC and it was splashed all over a Sunday newspaper, how could I go back?
Quote:

Clarkson met the unnamed BBC exec last Friday — around the time Evans was talking to Beeb entertainment boss Mark Linsey.

It is understood Clarkson would have rejoined sidekicks James May and Richard Hammond on Top Gear had he agreed to a return.
Paywall linky But I've quoted the salient parts for those without access.

Seems the Beeb had looked at the loss of £millions and wanted them all back.
