last film in the Rambo boxset, hadn't seen the 4th film before - Rambo 8/10

Documentary on the DVD about the situation in Burma was interesting, in a scary way!

Son of Rambow next, haven't seen that.

Over the Hedge: Not bad, some good laughs. 7/10

Flushed Away: Hilarious in places [the slugs cracked me up :D], quite enjoyable. 7/10

Santa's Slay: Daft, but enjoyable. 6.5/10

Ace Ventura: When Nature Calls: 7/10

Tim Burton's Corpse Bride: Loses a couple of points for all the singing, which IMO was completely unnecessary. 5/10

Happy Feet: Not bad, amusing in places. 6/10

Crocodile Dundee II: Still ejoyable. 7/10

The Dukes of Hazzard: Not as bad as I was expecting. 6.5/10

The Incredibles: 8/10

we started to watch Happy Feet, but got bored about 20 mins so watched the Pixar Incredibles spin off short Jack-Jack Attack, that was very funny, then watched Flushed Away we enjoyed that, would give it 7/10

Something, Something, Something Dark Side 8/10 missus and I enjoyed it as much as Blue Harvest.

Burn after Reading 8/10 we saw it at the cinema and really enjoyed it, then picked it up the other day in HMV for £3, really enjoyed it again :)

Avatar 3d - 9/10

I think it we had seen it in 2d would have been 7/10, as for the most part it is dumb, generic Hollywood action movie by numbers. But the 3d really draws you in and adds a lot of atmosphere to it. Certainly was worth the extra money to see it in 3d.

Avatar 3d 9.5/10

would have scored it a 10 had it not been the fact I saw elements of Shogun/Last Samurai in it. The film totally encapsulated the audience . The cinema was quite full even after all this time and once the film started it was as good as silent around me and there were kids there but even they were quiet.

The rates as one of the top films ive seen maybe helped by the 3d but so what :)

There are only 7 basic plots anyway :D

9.5/10 for Avatar from me. Definitely think the 3D added to the whole story and didn't feel like 3 hours.

Nowhere boy.

8/10

Film 4 showing a real return to form.. It's the story of the early (pre-beatles) life of John Lennon. I actually ends just before the trip to Hamburg that Backbeat was about, so even though it had been mad 16 years after backbeat, it fits in quite nicely.

Excellent acting, excellent music.

Saw The Tournament over the weekend. I don't know if this will ever make it to the big screen or straight to DVD but it 'stars' Ving Rhames and Robert Carlyle. The basic plot is that the tournament is a competetion where the worls best assassins converge on a town and play for 10 million dollars. They have to kill each other off - last man (or woman) standing wins the prize. Implaneted trackers and GPS systems allow each assassin to see where the others are. The group behind it watch on big screens having taken control of all the CCTV in the town the tournament is played in.

THis is a shocker of a film. It is also set in Middlesborough, I still don't know why. Funnily enough I dont think the producers have been to Middlesborough before as some of the sets where the main action scenes take place look very americanised.

I'd give it 4 out of 10.

I quite liked it and it kept me amused all the way through, some good kills in it as well, so I'd give it a 6.5 - 7 at least for it. A total Battle Royale rip off but still worth the watch.

Although it's set in Middlesbrough, it wasn't filmed here. It was wrote by a few students from here though. Well, I don't know if they were from here but they did go to University of Teesside which is here. I believe it was filmed in the northwest. I would of gave it a 7.

Stealth: I'd read a lot of bad comments about this movie [e.g. "worst movie ever", etc], so my expectations weren't very high, but having seen it I fail to see what's so bad about it. I actually thought it was a pretty decent action/sci-fi[ish] movie. 8/10

Miss Congeniality: 8/10

The Magic Roundabout: The animation was fine, but otherwise I was rather disappointed. 4/10

Madagascar: Not bad. 7.5/10

Clue: Surprisingly ejoyable, considering its age. 7/10

The Librarian: The Curse of the Judas Chalice: 7.5/10

Night at the Museum: 8/10

Earth vs. the Spider: Not-bad B-movie. 7/10

How to Make a Monster: Another B-movie; not great, but could be worse. 5/10

Flesh for the Beast: Lame. I'm not sure why I bothered watching it all the way to the end, except maybe the female nudity, but then again the girls weren't that hot. 2/10

Automaton Transfusion: Kind of a poor-man's Resident Evil. Okay, so the acting wasn't great, but considering it only had a budget of $30,000 I think it wasn't too bad. In the interest of full disclosure I should mention 2 things:
1. quite a few people don't agree with me, & think it's really bad
2. It ends on a cliff-hanger, though a sequel is apparently in the works [which I intend to watch]. 7/10

30 Days of Night : 8/10

Eight Legged Freaks: If you're not a fan of spiders then this will quite probably give you the heeby-jeebies, as it did me, but it's still worth watching if you haven't seen it before. 6.5/10

Ocean's Eleven: Enjoyable heist movie. 8/10

Ocean's Twelve: Not bad, but didn't like it as much as the first 1. 7/10

Fireball: Pretty much your typical "bad guy uses experimental drug, gets super powers, & becomes super-villain that has to be stopped" type movie. 7.5/10

Polar Storm: Not bad world-in-peril disaster movie. 7.5/10

L.A. Story: 7/10

Scooby-Doo: I would have gotten away with giving this an 8 if it wasn't for those meddling film makers not only making Scrappy evil, but including him in the film in the first place. Matthew Lillard's portrayal of Shaggy was spot-on though, even the voice. 6/10

Scooby Doo 2: Monsters Unleashed: Significantly better than the original. 8/10

Miss Congeniality: Armed and Fabulous: 7.5/10

The Day the Earth Stopped: Similar story to The Day The Earth Stood Still, but I think I enjoyed this 1 more. 7/10

Edges of Darkness: I only managed to put up with about half an hour of this. Not worth the waste of time. 1/10

44inch chest. Thankfully, i heard an interview where Ray Winstone moaned about the fact that it has been hyped as a gangster film. It is not, and had I been expecting one, I would have been disappointed.

As it happens, it's a film about a violent Londoner (Winstone) and how he falls apart when his wife leaves him for another man. It's also about how his friends attempt to help him deal with it (by kidnapping and imprisoning his wife's lover, hence the ganster hype).

Nicely scripted and acted film. Not a lot actually happens, but it is entertaining none the less. John Hurt in particular is excellent as the Cantankerous old man known only as Peanut. There are a few scenes in which they are talking about old films, and one entertaining sequence where someone is describing the story of the Elephant Man to John Hurt's character..

7/10

Also, I watched Transformers 2 earlier. Typical Micheal Bay film. Nice big action scenes, lots of explosions, good special FX and Megan Fox both draped seductively over a motorcycle and driving a sexy loking camero at high speed.. 6/10

Watched it on Tuesday. Thought the effects were excellent, as was the 3D. The storyline began and ended well, but the middle dragged. The film spent far too long establishing the relationship between Sam Worthington's character and the Na'vi. They could have lost about 40 minutes of film from that section with little or no impact on the story.

7/10 and yes, I did see it at the BFI London IMAX cinema.

In fact, while I am a great fan of James Cameron, and actually enjoyed both Avatar and Titanic, I do think he should look at his earlier films to remind himself how to set up believable characterisations without taking too long to do so. Aliens, The Abyss and T2 do this excellently..

Don't you get Zone Horror then? I don't know what channel it is on Sky, but on VM it's 149.

Autumn: Could do with some serious editing, as it really drags on.

Spoiler:
Aside from being too long, it's a zombie movie where the meat-suits are usually slow moving & are mostly drawn to sound [& light during the night], rather than the need to munch on the living, though they do get round to doing a bit of that occasionally. You'd think the characters in the film had never seen a zombie movie, or even heard of zombies. The dead get up & start walking around again, & yet they wait until they start to attack the living before doing anything against them, & even then it's only really in self defence! If the dead were the fast & immediately aggressive type [eg 28 Days Later] then I could understand - that or if the characters were total pacifists or whatever, but they weren't.

NYC: Tornado Terror: Typical disaster movie. 7/10

Between the Lines: I don't know why this has a score of 6.9 on IMDB, I really don't. It's supposed to be a comedy, or at least have some comedy in it - I didn't even manage a smile in the hour of it that I managed to put up with. I only watched it because it sounded good from it's description in DigiGuide, but my recommendation is don't even bother... unless you need a cure for insomnia! 1/10

Soulkeeper: 7/10

Mr. St. Nick: 7.5/10

Alien, oddly enough I have recently had the pleasure of watching The Day The Earth Stood Still (1951) 9/10 and Village of the Damned (1960) 7.5/10 and they are most certainly better that the recent re-makes. Saying that, I have also had the opportunity to watch The War of the Worlds (2005) and I found it to be far superior in its narrative, than the nineteen fifty-three version (although I still rate that a 7/10 as a stand alone tale).

Really, don't waste nearly two hours of your life that you'll never get back - even though I was watching it late at night, with two large glasses of malt, and it had Jolene Blalock in it, and we finally got the powered armour from the original book (for about two minute at the end), it is complete and utter dreck (I enjoyed the original film).

Hopefully, going to see Sherlock Holmes this evening will restore my faith in film-makers.

I enjoyed the film mostly, It wont go winning any awards but it was much better than sequel. That is until the last 30 mins when the Christianity references which had been present throughout the film became a lot more than references.
I'd give it about 4/10, would have been 7/10 if it wasn't for them ruining the end.

As for Sherlock Holmes, I loved it. Downey Jr. makes the film much better than it could have been though so if you don't like him you may not like this.
I'd give it 9/10.

Sherlock Holmes - 6/10.

I enjoyed it, but it just seemed to lack something, didn't keep my full attention (I like RJD, and thought he was great in Iron Man).

Robert Jr. Downey? :erm::D I just finished watching it, I'd give it about an 8.

Surprising Robert Downey jr actually worked in the role of Sherlock Holmes as it did in Chaplin, if they had put a English star into the role then the movie would not get the success at the US box office, and that is all that matters to the movie men.

It now only about £2m behind Titanic in the most cash made, not bad for a film thats not even 60 days old.

Its gonna start dropping out of the cinemas in the UK and I guess the US with Toy Story 2 in 3D showing soon . Dunno how many 3D screens your lots local cinemas have but round here its just one

Adn its about 168 million behind Titanic ;)

Thing is what would be a better way of doing the box office hits would be bums on seats ie tickets sold rather than money made. Look at Star Wars and remember how much a cinema ticket was in 1977 ;)

My local Cineworld now has at least 3 screens converted for 3D so they will both stay around. Toy Story 2 3D is only out for 2 weeks anyway.

Toy Story 2 3D 9/10 Still a great laugh and 3D added a wholw new feeling to the film.

Avatar is now the highest grossing film in the world ever. Still not top in the US though. Apparently more people went to see Avatar in 2d last week than went to see Legion. In the UK it averaged 12 grand over the weekend per screen it was on

Awesome. Avatar is going to do for 3D what what the Jazz Singer did for talkies

i enjoyed it, a bit violent but a good yarn about a mans quest to deliver the last of a certain book - cant say any more might spoil the plot
7/10

If the actor is good (as Robert Downey Jr is), his or her nationality should not matter.

Look at James Bond. He is the quintessential Englishman, yet out of the 6 men who have played him (Sean Connery, George Lazenby, Roger Moore, Timothy Dalton, Pierce Brosnan, Daniel Craig), only two (Roger Moore and Daniel Craig) have been English.

Inside Man - 8/10.

Excellent film, that made me think.

Last two films I saw:

Book of Eli: After WW3, Civilisation has collapsed and Anarchy reigns. Denzel Washington is head west across the US, and comes across a small town that is run by Gary Oldman, who is excellent as the bad guy. Denzel Washington is, as usual, Excellent. Mila Kunis is good, once you get past the surprise of seeing Meg from Family Guy on the big screen. 7/10, but it loses out a bit because it slows down in the middle.

Daybreakers: Excellent Sci Fi, with good performances from all the cast (even though I had the irritating feeling I'd seen the leading lady before, but could not find where I had even after an IMDB lookup). 8/10

8/10

Awesome FX etc., 3D was good (but not worth paying over £10 for a ticket), good action at the end. Better than Titanic, at least, but I'd rather watch T2 or Aliens.

To be fair it has been out for nearly 8 weeks now. I'm sure there would have been more time slots available if you had gone sooner ;)

We watched it recently too and i actually found it quite funny. Some great one liners and that soundtrack certainly brought back a few memories.
A lot of it was actually filmed 5 minutes away from here on my late mother-in-laws old Estate.
I`ll give it a 6/10 just for the laughs & dodgy looking tracksuits.

I wouldn`t actually mind being back in my own old neighbourhood but as it stands we`re a only mere 5 minutes from the Common ourselves.

The Wolfman: 6/10. Good cast. Good SFX. OK story. Interesting to see where I work doubling as the Lambeth Asylum. I know this as I actually got to watch some of the stunts being filmed.

One effect that is used a few times, but done quite well is the transformation. It looks painful. Which it should. Such a transformation would break every bone in your body, so you would be in agony while it was happening. The only other werewolf film I have seen that gets this right is An American Werewolf In London. The others just seem to use Morphs or fades..

Timecop (on TV) - 6/10, but good fun.

Only problem is, why (in 1994) did they think everyone in 2004 would be driving electric armoured cars?

Megashark vs Giant Octopus

Every bit as good as expected :)

From the dodgy mini subs the well dodgy special effects and the total lack of acting.

Points I hear you cry - well let me see as a film 1 or even 2 out of 10.

As one to watch as it's SO bad - 10 / 10

Absolutely brilliant, and in IMAX 3D rather than the normal 3D is so much better and with the huge screen you feel as if you're there :)
