VM said back in March that they will use Horizon at some point, but have given no dates:

In September, Liberty said they are rolling out their latest UI refresh, Horizon 4, to their continental equivalents of the V6 boxes, but no mention of a UK rollout:

I hope you get all your new year wishes. Atlantic and Prime are alright. The idea of them is better than the reality.

As of January 1st 2019 Media Boy HQ will no longer update the coming soon page on Cable Forum with "the latest news on upcoming channel launches and other important events across all platforms of Virgin Media UK and Virgin Media Ireland." (See "Virgin" for more info we last updated it on August 9th - We are talking about post one in this thread.)

But we will carry on posting when we have got any news.

"Coming Soon to Virgin TV (2019)" will launch sometime in the week starting December 26th.

Not that impressed to be honest.

The feature I am interested in is the cloud storage of recordings - unfortunately although it mentioned this it didn't give any details such as:

Maximum number of recordings at any one time
Amount of storage available per person
Length of time the recording remains available
How the cloud recordings appear on the box for selection

I am sure there are others but these are the most important that I can think of at present.

We forgot to say early on:

Late last week Media Boy HQ found that Virgin Media has cut THREE Streams. And also cut THREE Channels.

Last Week - Today
47 - 44 Streams
489 - 486 Total Servies

---------- Post added at 23:36 ---------- Previous post was at 22:55 ----------

Virgin Media UK is now showing BBC One Scotland HD on Virgin UK Channels 101 and 108 here in Media Boy HQ.

Re: Coming Soon to Virgin TV (2018)

Some of those channel number changes are weird. They must be due to who is getting what in the BBC/Discovery split. I vaguely remember reading that supposedly Discovery want Dave's Freeview slot for Quest, so I can see similar bargaining happening on cable and satellite (though less so on satellite due to how it works).

That's one of the reasons I think this may hint at the UKTV split configuration.

The new ordering means all the UKTV channels with a +1 and HD varient have the SD first, then +1 and HD furthest down. It's logical given the 'press blue' option. The only exception will be Good Food, as they are currently in that order already but they are switching the HD and +1, rolls eyes!

I'm wondering if this will work itself out if more channels do SD -> HD switch meaning the HD channels getting bumped up the guide now, won't matter later.

According to the V6 EPG, the old BT Sport 4KUHD channel on 555 becomes Channel 4 from 2pm on 23/12/18!?

I wonder if this is an error, as I can't see Channel 4 wanting to move down the EPG. Also, this would be during the 'Christmas freeze', where non essential changes aren't carried out in case something goes wrong during the Christmas period when most staff will be on holiday.

It appears to be duplicated, rather than moved - the same programmes are still on 104.

Re: Coming Soon to Virgin TV (2018)

IMHO It’s simply an error in the Guide data. Somebody has wrongly loaded Ch4 data into the 555 slot.

Another indicator that Channel 4 won't be moving to 555 is because this is the sports genre.

Perhaps it's a test using dummy data as opposed to an error and a new sports channel is starting on 555? Eleven Sports??

RobboEdin 11-12-2018 14:15

It was an error in the Guide data - now fixed. No Channel 4 data on channel 555 any more.

A last-minute BBC News special has been announced for Wednesday evening on BBC One.

Quote:

There will be the result and reaction to the confidence vote in Theresa May. As the Press Association reports, the programme, titled May Leadership Challenge, will be hosted by Andrew Neil. It will air from 7.30pm until 9pm. The One Show, which is scheduled from 7pm to 8pm, will end early and the previously scheduled 8pm broadcast of Shop Well for Less will be replaced by the news programme.

And another change. They'd previously said the 8-9pm program was dropped, it's currently showing as going out 7.30-8.30pm

I know a dynamic EPG is totally impractical and this sort of stuff doesn't happen very often, the reverse EPG will pick up iPlayer etc etc, but I dare say whatever mess BBC1 makes of tonight will cause a few messed-up recordings and whinges on the VM Forum. Oh the joys.

l am not confused as the UK is a different animal altogether as for Eleven Sports read Setanta Sports and then there is ESPN a very well financed company who turned around and quit the UK market.

I was joking ;)

I’ve posted before that the best thing for the overall market is they go bust in the absence of a business plan.

I agree with your point about worldwide companies- they aren’t going to sink their profits into the UK in the absence of a return on investment.

I think that is partially where the old Vintage TV stopped appealing, when it first launched it would do anything from 1920s onward and was eclectic, but it stopped being like 6Music and started drifting more modern...and then started commissioning original programming which instantly significantly ups the running costs.

I’d have squeezed twenty posts out the imminent closure of Eleven Sports if I’d known I was near the podium.

New Sky Sports USA 'pop-up' channel starts in January. It will be on the same channel as Sky Sports Action.

Just like the 'Christmas' channels. All they are doing is changing the name for a period of time.

That's correct, it's on the same channel as Sky Sports Action, to which it will probably revert the following month.

Am I the only one who thinks these re-brandings at various times of the year are pointless and a total waste of time?

I completely agree with both of you however consumer feedback clearly tells Sky it raises awareness of the content it has.

Excuse me if already discussed but any news re Sky Sports Racing

Launches 1st January, I understand for Sky subscribers it will be included in basic packs and in HD. Is that the same for Virgin? Is it testing?

Yes it will appear on the 1st January.

Quote:

Sky Sports Racing will be a rebrand of At The Races, which is already available on Virgin. The only thing that is likely to happen is that non Sky Sports subscribers will lose the channel as it moves in with the other premiums.
Quote:

Sky Sports Racing will remain available to Sky customers on channel 415 and to Virgin customers on channel 535.

Just another rebrand, I guess. A bit like SS Action is currently SS Darts.

We will still get the channel in HD. Don't be fooled. It's just a change of name. Nothing else changes except that the channel will be devoted to US sports for the designated period.

Ah, right! Well, it's being described as a 'new channel', so I guess we will need to wait for the details, although I would have thought that HD was a given.

True, the Clubland / NOW app also seems to have gone the way of the dodo.

But both are examples of streamed linear TV, Den. That just wasn't going to fly - it was the worst of all worlds. Scheduled TV which you couldn't record, and poor quality at that.

If you think this is anywhere near a justification for the view expressed by some who think that nowt will ever change and that that streamed services won't be taking over, you have picked two very bad examples!

Starzplay is coming soon and that will not be the only new SVOD service to appear on Virgin Media in the foreseeable future.

Non-appearance is either technical, regulatory or commercial. I would guess commercial in this case taking the hint that it is not technical.

There was no hint. I know nothing about this alleged app. I was just interested in why Den assumes a non-launch is for technical reasons.

Incidentally, I see the webpage has now gone.

That was the first thing that came into my head l have to agree but obviously what has transpired since suggest a wholly different reason for the non launch.

Re: Coming Soon to Virgin TV (2018)

Virgin getting to test out 8 HD channels per frequency at the minute with Sky and BT pay per view events at the same time. I wonder if anyone noticed a dip in picture quality on the other six channels or felt that for £20 the picture quality was poor on the PPV.

It seems the promises of lots of apps on the V6 has gone the same way as the promises of new apps when the Tivo launched

Not true. Virgin Media see themselves as being aggregators of content. The rubbish linear apps have gone, but we are set to get Starzplay and others look likely to arrive in 2019 as well. Hopefully, Prime may be one of them, given that this has now arrived on BT.

I’m curious how an “aggregator of content” deviates from the bundling they’ve always done with linear channels.

If it goes to form minority content is unlikely to find itself available out of the generosity of the cable operator.

A few corrections needed:

Crime + Investigation HD is now on channel 222 (not 272 as stated)
Crime + Investigation +1 is now on channel 224 (not 295 as stated)
Worldbox on channel 834 has now closed
GINX on channel 290 has now closed

And Sky Sports Racing is certainly not in HD either.

You mean the Channel Guide didn't have the channel duplication that's been there for months?
