An Amazon Streaming App. I'm guessing we'll still need our Amazon subscriptions though, right?;)

I was a little confused by this - what else would it be other than a streaming app, the same as Netflix, BBC i-player, etc? It was never going to be a TV channel, although we will get access to it by way of a channel number.

Various things lead me to believe that this is an error and that it will be Rishtey Cineplex that's launching.

Not impossible; Wuaki did acquire KnowHow Movies from Dixons and there has been other consolidation eg TalkTalk buying Blinkbox.
But VM and Vubiquity only signed a renewal deal on 21 September covering films and other services http://www.vubiquity.com/news/

I think you and theone2k10 are talking about different things - you mean Google Play (music, films, tv, books) whilst he means the Play Store from Google which contains Android apps.

If so you are indeed correct it is on roku and also accesable via a pc browser too so it could show up on vm tivo in the future.

It's not been put on Freesat either.

Is it available on Sky? If so, maybe you're right Andrew.

Other channels have been known to broadcast off the EPG for ages before being added though eg Hum Masala.

FOX News is a subscription channel on SKY part of their basic package, even online you need a tv provider log in to watch (usa one you do anyway).

Can the best channel launch include apps? If so I reckon Amazon will win though.

What else has arrived? Spike? Universal HD, some Freeview movie channels? I reckon Amazon beats these assuming it launches before MB's deadline.

For me, Universal HD beats Amazon.

I already have Amazon app on my PS4 and TV. Universal HD was a good channel missing from our line-up.

Aye i agree. I wouldnt vote amazon. Firstly i have to pay for it and secondly itll be slow so its much better to use the ps4!

Appears to be a straight choice of spike or universal HD since i cant think of much else... Are we able to add a poll to vote in the thread like we usually do or are we no longer allowed to do this?

denphone 07-11-2016 12:26

Re: Coming Soon to Virgin Media TV (2016) Vol 2

Personally l would vote for Amazon if it arrive pretty quickly on the STB..

Ultimate.Conj 07-11-2016 12:34

Re: Coming Soon to Virgin Media TV (2016) Vol 2

I guess it comes down to which TV package customers have.

Those with XL may vote for Universal as it was a missing HD channel.
Those without XL may vote Amazon as it would put most apps in one place.

OB, UHD content on Amazon doesn't cost any extra like it does on Netflix.
You just need a 4K tv and your Amazon subscription

Only if you're willing to passively accept them. Myself and many others (with various providers) are now paying less than what we were paying previously.

If customers are daft enough to pay it, VM are going to be daft enough to put their prices up...

denphone 07-11-2016 14:12

Re: Coming Soon to Virgin Media TV (2016) Vol 2

We don't passively accept it but my point is price rises happen in all facets of our economy and in general life but the key is to talk to the company involved instead of some adopting a inertia policy in which they do exactly diddly squat as nothing will ever change then.

RobboEdin 07-11-2016 14:28

Re: Coming Soon to Virgin Media TV (2016) Vol 2

It's simple. Without price increases, there would be no inflation.
Our wonderful Canadian, the venerable Carney, is projecting increasing inflation in the coming years so expect further price increases.

You can vote for an app but only if:

1) It has launch in 2016.
2) Have an EPG Channel number.

It look like we are not set to have an round 2 as just one channel name has been given to us by PM.

BBC News: India NDTV 24-hour broadcast ban is suspended by government

Quote:

The Indian government has suspended a one-day ban on NDTV's Hindi channel due on Wednesday, which had been widely condemned by other news outlets.

Broadcasting Minister Venkaiah Naidu took the decision, the channel said.

The 24-hour suspension was imposed as a penalty for NDTV's coverage of an attack on the Pathankot air force base.

NDTV India broadcasts on Virgin UK Channel 836.

Any idea if a discount will be offered for VM customers?

I agree with all the sentiments about Christmas channels in October/November- it's totally ridiculous.

My personal preference is Netflix I wasnt impressed with Amazon but its good that it will be on the Virgin platform for those that want it.

Im still hoping we will get History Hd not that there is much history on it but would be good have Ice road truckers in HD.

amazon for a few quid on virgin media would make up for all the rubbish price increases... but i very much doubt we'll get any discount!

There's a rumour that Netflix 4K will be discounted on the V6 and will be cheaper than Netflix HD. If this turns out to be true, I wonder if Amazon will also discount their product?

I can see Amazon and Netflix doing some pricing discounts but maybe not until the new year. Certainly a great month for VM - 4G finally released, Amazon on its way and a new box on soft launch.
I suspect December will be a quiet month for everyone except theone2k10 who will be wondering how he can slip in a yuletide quip about price rises. :)

Amazon Instant Video is a quality service. For the past 2 years Amazon have offered a price cut in the annual subscription in the week leading up to their Black Friday sale. Last year it was £59.00 for a full years worth of Prime.

http://www.trustedreviews.com/news/a...friday-uk-deal

Well worth putting the money aside over the next 2 weeks in anticipation of another price drop. Works out at £4.92 per month, a saving of £20.00.

I wouldn't be surprised if vm get some kind of deal Amazon instant video and Netflix at £10 for both, this would however exclude Amazon prime service.
I will see if any sources have any info about possible deals and reveal what i can subject to DNPs.

No once signed up you can use the app on various devices such as games console, smart tv, roku etc.
Tivo will be the only VM box to support it though it will not be on the VHD (do they still issue this box?).

For me even at full price Amazon Prime is pretty good value that said I would like to see them add more Original content to their streaming library it seems a little things on the ground.

Re: Coming Soon to Virgin Media TV (2016) Vol 2

Thats what put me of not enough original content but they seem to be working on that. Another thing I did not like was that some of the films and programmes were at an additional cost and not included in the prime subscription. I prefer Netflix but thats just my preference although at the moment I do not use netflix through the Tivo due to speed issue but hopefully that will be sorted soon one way or the other.
