Just in time for the new football season? I think that the last time we had something like this we got Setanta in the XL package.

So it's basically the bbc red button for the olympics, that's what it looks like anyway.

Re: Coming Soon to Virgin TV (2015)

Finally got around to checking my emails and have had a email from a source saying soon tv providers vm, sky, bt etc will start to introduce a verification system similar to the US networks that will enable their users to view channels such as WATCH, GOLD on pcs or devices without the need of using skygo etc, this is expected to start rolling out early 2016 with vm offering it to beta testers later on this year.
This is just a rumour at this stage as no other source has mentioned this to me as of yet.

@theone2k10

Maybe this rumour is why we are getting UPC Ireland Channels launching on Virgin Media so far this year?

http://www.cableforum.co.uk/board/35784319-post21.html

What is still only in UPC Ireland areas:

Documentaries:
-History HD
-CI HD

Lifestyle:
-Fashion TV

Music:
-MTV Classic

Kids:
-Disney Channel HD

Specialist:
-EWTN

Radio:
-UCB Ireland

-We feel that Fashion TV, EWTN and UCB Ireland will not launch on Virgin Media (All areas).

The new tivo is expected fourth quarter of this year.
No 4k plans by bbc in near future they are cost cutting, eurosport may do 4k though.

Discovery which controls Eurosport and Liberty Global are quite close so maybe there's something possible on the 4K sports front.

I wouldn't count on that, it seems strange that vm is now the only premium operator who doesn't have history hd i think it will arrive on vm next month.

I don't think vm customers will be getting bt sport europe for free, i'm a bt mobile customer i used to get bt sport1+2 and espn included as from August i will only get bt sport 1 included and it will be £5p/m extra for the others including bt sport europe.
Plusnet customers are also being hit with a price rise of £5pm for bt sport i really can't see vm getting it included as vm would have to talk big money and that will no doubt lead to a huge price hike.

I'd agree theone, other than their own triple play customers, no-one is getting it free yet from the prices that have been announced thus far.

My long-term hunch is coming back. Let's enter VM's thinking process and not hope for anything too classy. I'm expecting shopping channels, +1's and radio or porn channels.

I think this is why VM should shuffle their HD variants around and allow them into the other packs.

It would leave the XL pack for those wanting everything plus the premium BT Sport channels - Which of course comes at a higher cost.

This would offer a lot more value for those taking the L pack, who don't watch the sport but watch their TV shows in HD :) We know currently there are lots of decent channels in the L pack, but their HD variants are in the XL pack forcing customers to upgrade if they want to watch in HD :td:

But that would just make BT Sport a premium channel (ie everything is in L except BT Sport) and therefore does not make sense, commercially or from a marketing viewpoint.

It is already. You only get it free with the XL package.

From a Marketing point of view, customer on the XL package will probably usually have the higher tier packages for everything else which includes Sky Sports and Movies with certain bundles...this means having all of the football in one subscription...that is massive from a marketing viewpoint.

And that's why l can see a new deal being announced sometime in August because if it disappears they are highly likely to lose a fair amount of customers otherwise.

the point Mad Max is making though, Den, is that there is absolutely no point in posting information that you have received a DNP notice, because on it's own, it means absolutely nothing.

I am equally confused by the constant references to 'testing channels' with strange codes that mean absolutely nothing at all.

Better just to post stuff that means something to us or not post it at all IMHO.

In the absence of useful information, it seems meaningless information will do.

To be fair Dave whether it's included in XL or not you'll end up paying for it , the only plus for sports fans with it being included in a package it generally makes it better value for those who want it as opposed to having to pay for it as a standalone option.

Based on the prices announced so far on other platforms, I wouldn't be surprised if it is something like that theone.

Too right MM, it'd be £23.99 per month for me to add the BT Sports HD channels to my Sky package which is way overpriced for what you get in my opinion. I'm sure, like you say, VM customers will pay for it in some way but can't imagine it'll be as steep as the Sky price.

I wouldn't at all be surprised if it was included in XL however if so I'd expect to see rises on packages at the next annual increase to reflect this. Just my opinion of course.

Full details of how it will be incorporated into Virgin Media sports packages will be announced soon.
That does imply it will be part of a sports package, and not the general XL package, but as usual may just be badly worded.

About 2 weeks ago I would have agreed with you but since then BT have released their pricing info for other platforms.

Under the current deal Virgin pay BT £75 million pounds per year to carry their channels. If the new channel is to be included in XL Virgin will need to renegotiate the deal. How much will BT be looking for? £85 million per year? £100 million per year? That's crazy money.

Virgin, in my humble opinion, would be better dropping BT Sports from XL and reinvesting some of the money saved in beefing XL up in other areas i.e SKY Atlantic, all missing HD channels, Netflix included in XL and the likes of Premier Sports and Boxnation for the sports fans. That for me would make XL a much better rounded package making if much more attractive to a wider spectrum of customers.

Virgin Media says BT Sport Europe will join its existing line-up of sports channels, but the cablenet is holding back on how the channel will be packaged.

Tom Mockridge, Virgin Media Chief Executive, said: “If the football is on, we’ll be showing it. Virgin Media is still the only provider that offers you front row access to all the live sporting action at home and on the go.”

Having the football in one subscription is the way VM want to go....I really can see it being in the XL pack.

If so, it will be another reason for non sports watchers on XL TV to move to Sky for TV or Cut the Cord.

This could be a reason why Atlantic may never come.

VM realise that more people would choose the live football over Atlantic so maybe that's why they are going down this route?

Re: Coming Soon to Virgin TV (2015)

Everything on Atlantic and virtually everything on Netflix is obtainable by anybody with an Internet connection in excellent, sometimes better than broadcast quality files to download and watch whenever they feel like, live sports are exactly that, you really need to watch them as they happen, Yes I know some people will say you can stream them, but usually the quality and reliability of streaming is rubbish. Live sport sells, Atlantic not so much.

Only for people who like sports. Non sports watchers on XL are helping to subsidise the cost of free BT sports.

Fair enough, that is a VM targeted decision. But it means that all the non sports fans who want all the pay TV channels are better off elsewhere or Cord Cutting.

It doesn't matter what package you have, VM will use all of their money to put towards it. Leaving the XL pack seems a little extreme.

You can pay VM for just broadband, but they will use that money to pay for BT Sports for customers to have on their XL Package.

We may get it included in the xl pack but we all know we will pay for it later on through price rises.i would have been quite happy to have paid an extra fiver a month for it.after all it's only the price of a pint of beer up the town in edinburgh.this would have meant that non sport viewers were not having to pay for something they have no interest in.i think virgin should be letting people "pick and mix"their channels as i only watch about ten channels max out of all the channels available.

Unlikely but it could happen, especially as Sony announced at E3 that Sony vue customers can soon subscribe to individual channels rather than packs.
Who knows vm and sky may think "hold on Sony are onto something here we want a piece of that pie"

Even better though probably difficult to administer would be that all channels, films and sport are available but you pay for the one(s) and the time you actually view. A sort of Pay As You View in like pence/pounds per hour depending upon the content.

The problem being that these figures are becoming harder and harder to interpret , I agree droves was a poorly chosen word but I'm sure your not naive enough to believe hefty discounts aren't being offered to retain customers.

Haven't VM now started lumping UPC Ireland figures in I believe Sky do the same they also include Now TV subs making it ever harder to get the full picture.

Yes, but that makes the figures worse

"Q1 combined U.K./Ireland customer churn of 14.5% driven by a third successive quarter of record low U.K. churn of 14.3%, compared to 15.4% in the comparative period of 2014"

Agreed which means they are replacing all those who've left the question is at what cost , both are businesses somebody has to fund all the new customer discounts and incentives not to mention the retentions deals.

I'll agree both are making good profits and are healthy businesses however in my opinion traditional pay tv is in for a reality check over the coming years , just my opinion of course and I'm happy for you to correct me in several years.:D

The complete package on Sky now costs in excess of £75 just for TV , I've no idea about VM but those prices are eye watering and future high price rises are unsustainable in my opinion.

Haven't VM now started lumping UPC Ireland figures in I believe Sky do the same they also include Now TV subs making it ever harder to get the full picture.

It is harder, but they are all, essentially, owned by the same company. Until we see cord cutting become more expensive than Sky or VM etc currently charge, they will use these figures to the best of their advantage. Ultimately, in this day and age it is all about "lies, damned lies, and statistics".
