why do people moan alot about hd and sky atlantic

Because Sky Atlantic is the only place in the UK that you can get HBO series broadcast via TV. HBO produce many highly acclaimed dramas. It's that simple.

Just stream the **** online. Sky Atlantic might be the only TV program with it on, but it is not the only way to watch the shows. Just plug your laptop into the TV and it will be the same.

Everyone has different interests but the shows on Atlantic seem to appeal to a wider range of people than many other channels.

Personally I mostly watch Discovery, Nat Geo, Eden and similar channels (which look awesome in HD) but the series I look most forward to is Game of Thrones on Sky Atlantic. Don't care much for the other shows but there are those that like Vegas, Blue Bloods, The Following and the other exclusive to Atlantic series.

Those that don't want those tv shows or prefer using the computer over tv, shouldn't be worrying about those that do watch tv, want that type of tv and want that channel.

You can pretty much download or stream everything on British TV, and American TV, very easily. I think I was first introduced to P2P TV shows about 10 years now. It's strange that whilst people can get premium TV for "free" over half of all households in the UK are prepared to pay for their TV.

A little off topic but I suppose it fits in:

Sky Atlantic must be popular if otherwise upstanding citizens are prepared to break the law to watch some of the exclusive content ;)

It is thanks to pirates that air and release dates are getting closer to US dates now, instead of 3+ months like in the past

Yep, really crazy to discuss TV channels on a TV related forum. We should be discussing the more important things in life, even though they have nothing whatsoever to do with anything vaguely related to Virgin Media.

No need to break the law to watch Game of Thrones. It's on Blinkbox, which you can watch on an Xbox.

Season 3 won't be, not for a while

---------- Post added at 09:28 ---------- Previous post was at 09:26 ----------

I bought season 2 on Blinkbox, watched through my smart tv, it was a great series, just the quality of the streaming picture was not quite as it should be. Although it was fine on my Ipad.

Rumour: Vintage TV may 'possibly arrive next week'.

Just found this on Virgin Media Forum:

Someone at Vintage TV told me the channel should be made available to us soon on cable. Any truth to this?

It was via email. It says carriage has been agreed with Virgin and we could possibly see it arrive next week.

Yes, we've discussed that before, but it is a very expensive way to watch HBO shows. People want a fairly priced legal way to get the shows without having to be tied to a particular TV service provider.

Doubt I'l watch either but it'll be interesting to see which pack they go on considering they're both FTA on satellite (just like those XL CBS channels...)

Doesn't make sense does it, why pay extra for channels in the XL package when for a one of cost of about £55 and 10 mins with a screwdriver you can install a fta kit...

Re: Coming Soon to Virgin TV (2013) Vol. 1.

We pay extra cus it's Virgin's kit & Virgin's screwdriver that gets us the channels. Some of us out here can't get satellite, so we're quite happy about it.

It's a good channel, if you like retro music. I watched a 2 hour programme last week, the greatest hits on 80's cinema. It was pretty funky!

I've just had a promotional booklet through the post from Sky and well lets just say its basically a boo ya sucks to Virgin Media. It's based on pretend phone call to VM sales and imaginary questions asking about Sky Atlantic, F1 HD, 3D and remaining other HD exclusives and says ONLY available on Sky - haha VM your pathetic! It's based on pretend phone call to VM sales and imaginary questions asking about Sky Atlantic, F1 HD, 3D and remaining other HD exclusives and says ONLY available on Sky - haha VM your pathetic! I think that pretty much drowns any rumours of those channels coming anytime soon. Sorry.

At least Virgin isn't run by a ******* who thinks it is acceptable to run papers by hacking into people's phone messages. So I would rather stick with a company like Virgin thanks.

They will cave in eventually, when they've sucked all of the benefits from withholding it. The Sky basics came back after a dispute with Virgin, and Sky Atlantic will launch eventually, when Sky have found something else to promote their platform.

In the meantime, we'll just have to find other ways of viewing the few programmes on Sky Atlantic that are worth watching. I'm already doing this now - tired of waiting.

Enough people switch to sky due to wanting premium TV so no need to sound like you speak for all customers ;)

The way I see it, if someone wants sky Atlantic enough, they will switch. Those that don't switch don't want it badly enough. Being stuck in contract and the increased costs of splitting triple packages makes it less attractive.

It will be interesting to see what happens when Sky eventually add Atlantic to Now TV. Entertainment was due after they added sports, which they have just done.

No one is sure how it will be done; i.e. the Sky Atlantic channel streamed, or selected shows. Price of course will be a key factor.

For anyone using Netflix and a service such as Unblockus, season 1 of Blue bloods is available on Netflix Denmark.

From what l and others have heard they are asking way too much knowing full well that other providers won't pay it so in essence their tactics have always been not to let others have it by stealth tactics.

The key issue dividing Sky and Virgin Media is price, with the possible underlying issue that Sky is thought to be keen to retain Sky Atlantic as an exclusive part of its own pay-TV offer.

Liberty owned UPC in Ireland carries Sky News HD & Sky Sports News HD, so if a new deal is being negotiated, there is no reason to think Sky Atlantic might not be part of it.

I still think virgin should try and do their own premium channel instead of worrying about Atlantic. Just do it better than the Virgin 1 attempt

Or the fact that they don't carry Atlantic points to the probability that such a deal is unlikely because even a company that was able to negotiate a better hd offering from Sky failed to get it?
