Re: ESPN, BT, Euro, Premier and Sky Sports news

LOL I love all this will they won't they stuff :)

Look, I want VM to get BT as much as the next person BUT if we got it and it was standalone people would complain...if it meant a £5 on the sports package a month people would complain...if we didn't get it at all people would complain.

There is no lack of info from VM this time round, they keep saying they are in active talks, confirmed by BT, so what more can we ask for.

The closer we get to the new PL season the more itchy BT will get. They know full well they need VM custom just as much as VM need BT sport.

A deal will be done, but if VM play hardball right up until PL starts they may get a better deal!

Don't expect anything tomorrow.

Gunslinger 31-07-2013 12:17

Re: ESPN, BT, Euro, Premier and Sky Sports news

While all the previous talk about 'secret deals' is obviously nonsense, it is in both sides' interest to let negotiations run to the wire (and possibly beyond), in order to judge the customer take up of BT's service.

Obviously if that is significantly less than planned, then BT will be under pressure to accept a lower price than would otherwise be the case. Virgin have repeatedly shown themselves unwilling to pay over the odds or be held to ransom - from the Sky Basics situation, ITV HD channels, Sky Atlantic, etc etc.

If a price is agreed, a deal can be done very quickly, if not it won't, it's as simple as that. Both sides are preparing the ground for either eventuality.

That Tweet seems very definite. BT can't just say that if they have actually penned a deal with VM. Plus it's backed up by the fact that BT has been targeting us VM customers directly for the past few weeks.

A FM has put a statement from BT on DS..

Quote:

BT confirms no agreement to put BT Sport on Virgin Media
Wednesday 31 July 2013 16:02:02 by Andrew Ferguson
After some speculation on Monday that Virgin Media may have been about to add BT Sport to its cable TV packages, BT has issued a statement that confirms that no wholesale agreement has been reached yet.

"Following the large number of enquiries from Virgin Media customers and press speculation, we can confirm that we have not agreed a wholesale deal for BT Sport with Virgin Media. But we are open to doing it at the right price and talks continue. In the meantime, we have an excellent offer for Virgin customers who move to either BT TV or to satellite."

BT statement on possibility of wholesale access to BT Sport by Virgin Media
Today is the last day Virgin Media cable customers will have access to ESPN if it was in their package line-up, the question now is whether the right price for BT can be shuffled around to be the right price for Virgin Media.

BT will of course not be worrying too much if when it looks at the numbers of new customers on its Infinity service a good number of them are arriving from Virgin Media. For those BT customers looking to commit to a new 12 month contract or have 12 months or more left to run on their contract and want access to BT Sports on their Sky satellite TV service or BT TV box, today is the last day that you can order BT Sport and get the HD upgrade for free. It is also the last day for the current batch of £40 and £60 Sainsbury vouchers for new signups to BT Broadband and Infinity.

A politicians answer if EVER I heard one LOL

If you check the other question which was "Will it ever be on VM?"

The answer form BT exactly the same as the 1st time.

"It is not available on Virgin Media" ...er yep we know it's not NOW lol.

Means nothing!

BT Sport launch to be free and open to all

BT says the launch of its new BT Sport channels will be available free to all homes with Freeview, TV from BT or Sky.

Launching tomorrow (August 1st), the channels will offer football fans 38 Barclays Premier League matches per season.

Broadcast from the Olympic Park in East London, they’ll also carry exclusive Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) coverage and 800 hours of live tennis, including the TEB BNP Paribas WTA Championships.

The channels will get underway with a special first night live show featuring many of their presenters, experts, commentators plus special guests.

Featured talent will include Jake Humphrey, Clare Balding, Craig Doyle, Michael Owen, Steve McManaman, David James, Owen Hargreaves, Matt Dawson, Lynsey Hipgrave, Gary McAllister, Martin Bayfield, Anne Keothavong, Kim Little, Scott Redding, Neil Hodgson, Darrell Currie, Darren Fletcher, Sam Smith, Rosi Sexton, John Hathaway, Christian Howes, Des Kelly, Tom Watt, Caroline DeMoraes, Ian Darke, Ray Stubbs, Austin Healey, Ben Kay, Sarra Elgan, Eniola Aluko and Helen Skelton.

BT says the show will simulcast on BT Sport 1 and BT Sport 2 until the moment the two channels become independent. Viewers will then see Jake Humphrey heading to the football studio to cover the Audi Cup on BT Sport 1 and Craig Doyle in the BT Sport rugby studio covering the JP Morgan Asset Management 7s on BT Sport 2.

Announcing the ‘free to all’ launch, John Petter, managing director, BT Retail Consumer, said: “It’s finally a reality that ‘Great sport happens here’. It’s just over a year since we secured our Barclays Premier League rights and only six months since we started to build our exciting new studio in the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park. We have some tremendously talented presenters and experts who are passionate about sport.

“The customers are the ones that matter and now they will be able to see the programmes for themselves. We‘re convinced they’re going to like what they see, and we’re absolutely committed to making BT Sport fun, innovative and a firm favourite with the fans.”

BT is offering the channels free to all broadband customers online and via smartphone and tablet apps. In addition, customers with a BT Vision+ or YouView from BT set top box and infinity broadband will be able to watch the channels on their TVs.

The company is also making the channels available for free to its broadband customers who have a Sky+ box and to Sky broadband and TV subscribers in return for a monthly fee.

No carriage deal has been agreed with broadband rival Virgin Media.

IF, BT Sports is NOT on VM by the time the football season starts - l will stand by my word and switch over to Sky.

I will not be treated in a disgraceful manner by a company that wants things on the cheap, when at the end of the day it will be us in the end that pays for it.

At the end of the day - l as the customer, not some low life in the street. VM did this with us over the basic package, and its about time VM realised that without customers, they would not be in business.

I'm not down to expecting everything on the cheap. I think BT themselves have maybe cheapened the product making it free. They could have gone about it in a different way with offers but when you give it for free, it can't be expected that others will offer a good price for it.
I would think that Virgin Media are looking at it this way. No way is anyone going to make any money out of it, not enough people will want to pay for it.

Right, here's my take on the whole sorry situation,While I have benefited from BT Sports being offered to me FOC (I have Sky+HD and BT Infinity) and the fact I am £10 a month better off as I no longer have to pay for ESPN (at least for a year), and here is the thing,I genuinely feel sorry for the majority of you guy's on here not getting access to these services, let's face it there are not many Companies that are defended to the hilt by ultra loyal Customers that could get away with such inept dealings and not even offer some incentives to help compensate the loss of channels (let alone not getting any of the new one's!).

If I had the chance to speak to the Virgin Media hierarchy I would suggest they spend a few hours reading through this Forum just to get a feel of the confidence in them that stilll exists with these Customers, even in the light of this latest debacle over BT Sports.

To all of you still loyal customers I for one applaud you :clap::clap::clap::clap: and sincerely hope you all get what you thoroughly deserve in the very near future (hopefully before the start of the new Premiership season.......:)

ps Be gentle on me as I am a Liverpool FC season ticket holder....;)

Maybe someone should tweet a link to the coming soon thread to Virgin, just incase they are not 100% clear on how angry their sports loving customers are.

Doug, I can assure you that l don't mince my words with anyone.

I have told many companies over the years what l think of them, l am paying for a service, through hard earned money to watch Tv channels - and my big sport is football.

I work in customer service, and yet VM have now taken channels off ie ESPN, which is part of a package that l pay for - we they give me a reduction in my bill. Of course they won't.

I can assure you that if BT Sport is not on by the time the Premier League kicks off, then that is it.

I had a quarrel with VM over the numbers that appear on our screen and as VM would not give me a valid reason, l called Sky, they got VM, to call me, and they blatantly told me that it could be ME that is streaming live games to other houses.

Thats why l am a straight talker and say what l think.

I hope you find more satisfaction on the other side. I am just quietly pleased not to have had to pay for ESPN for however many years it is. If BT Sport turns up on XL great, but doubt it.

Arthur, there are probably a few Companies out there who would like to tell you exactly what they think of you!!....but alas they are to professional to do so,if I where you I would spend your hard earned money elsewhere and save yourself all this aggro....

I hope you find more satisfaction on the other side. I am just quietly pleased not to have had to pay for ESPN for however many years it is. If BT Sport turns up on XL great, but doubt it. Won't be moving from VM as they have been excellent for me and I find their CS pretty good all in all certainly compared to BT who are bordering on dire imo....

you already paid for ESPN thru your XL subscription

why is it that members think they got espn free in xl.
we have lost 4 sports channels if u include HD as a channel and had no replacement I for one ain't happy.

if bt cable was ere I would move instead I will prob downgrade.

I did not say I thought it was free in XL I said it was a bonus to have it....

Patience is required until we know whether BT and VM can deal.

All we hear is VM are in talks.... Are they in talks where a dedicated negotiating team are meeting or conferencing each day, or is someone from VM leaving the manager of BT sport a message with the latest offer and waiting till they can be bothered getting back to him?

Re: ESPN, BT, Euro, Premier and Sky Sports news

still no new eh?

despite my comments a couple of days ago (some 100 pages or so!!)i have succumbed to temptation and posted again.

i am trying to look at any positives in this. From the press releases so far it would appear BT would like BT Sports on VM (access to potentially 4M subscribers) and VM would like BT Sports on it s platform (to keep its customers happy and feel they are getting as good as if not comparable service to Sky)

Both sides want it to happen so clearly its down to £££ and both sides trying to get the best deal for themselves(understandable)

BT struck its deal with Sky some time ago- £12 pm or £15pm with HD ( though i think you sign up with BT direct not through Sky)

You would have thought that same terms would have been on the table to VM ?? I know VM dont like channels doing their own deals - i think thats one reason we never got Premier Sports. I think getting BT sports would be more important to VM than Premier Sports ever was.

so i read that as VM trying to secure a better deal ( i will give them the benefit of the doubt and assume that includes to the benefit of its customers)

so maybe it will eventually come to VM but VM are wanting to get a better deal than Sky ie have the cost absorbed maybe into its XL pricing (in full or partially)- either way not at the price Sky got.

i shall check back in another 100 pages or so and see if anything has actually happened yet.

BT didn't 'do a deal' with Sky, Sky had no say in the matter. The same deal isn't happening on VM because there is no way for BT to direct sell without it going through VM.

cityfan247 01-08-2013 19:18

Re: ESPN, BT, Euro, Premier and Sky Sports news

doesnt Sky have a say on what channels are available on its platform and what channels are on its epg?

Watched BT Sports now for 90 minutes and I'm fairly impressed.

The studio with the digital floor is a great addition. The presenters have a fairly relaxed style which is comfortable to watch . Owen Hargreaves isn't a natural on camera :)

A deal was done for the channels to be listed on the Sky epg, and for BT to use the sky viewing card number for decription, sky didn't have to agree to any of that.

Sky is an open platform they are required to allow any channel to launch , Setanta were on the Sky EPG and managed subscriptions themselves , ESPN on the other hand allowed Sky subscriber services to market the channel and handle payments which is the reason it was available on all STB's in the house unlike BT Sport.

DaMac 01-08-2013 20:54

Re: ESPN, BT, Euro, Premier and Sky Sports news

Sky don't have to list a channel on their epg, I remember when itv HD wasn't listed and needed to be manually tuned.

neilo 01-08-2013 21:21

Re: ESPN, BT, Euro, Premier and Sky Sports news

I think that was cause ITV was on Freesat only so you could only get it on Sky by manually tuning. Sky is an open platform. If someone pays, they are obliged to show the channel. Hence all those 900 channels you don't get in Virgin.

Do people think that BT Sport can rival Sky Sports for the long haul?

Superblade7 01-08-2013 21:27

Re: ESPN, BT, Euro, Premier and Sky Sports news

Come on VM, do something for us loyal customers and sports fans!

ESPN gone, BT Sports not available (yet), still waiting on Sky Atlantic, still waiting on Universal HD plus a few others and then to top it all off there will be a £3+ rise on Sky Sports collection come October!

Unfortunately VM are currently outdoing themselves in making Sky TV look more and more attractive, especially with all the 12 month half price codes doing the rounds.

Come on VM, get your game face back on and use some of that LG money to fight back! :bsmack:

On a side note,I registered for BT Sports a couple of months ago with Sky and it would only accept one of my Sky cards (I have multi-room),when I inquired I was told I could only have it on my primary card, but I am receiving BT Sports 1 and 2 and ESPN on both box's which is better for me but not what I was told.

It's free until 12.45am - the end of the Guyana vs Trinidad game if on BT Sports 1.

How exciting! I wonder what the audience for that game will be?

If you are thinking of switching, read this:
http://www.theguardian.com/money/201...tball-coverage

My personal suspicion is that BT have greatly overestimated demand for, and value of, their product. Hence Virgin holding back on committing to paying silly money for it.

May be a lever to try a get some sort of deal from Retentions, though...

I dont think it will. Why would BT make it so you only get it n one TV/STB but then let VM put it on all boxes one customer owns? Maybe thats why there is a hold up
