Strangely enough, Sky's prices also went up twice in the last year - September and January....

And of the channels removed, didn't Sky actually remove two of those?

Satellite providers have to do very little as the channel's uplinked to satellite by ESPN so they just pay a fee and add it to their packages. Cable providers have to get hold of the signal and provide a space for it on one of their muxes, all of which costs extra money on top of whatever ESPN want for the channel. Unless more providers start to carry the channel I think ESPN will have to re-think how much they want for it.

ESPNA HD is an incredibly niche channel with a miniscule weekly reach, perfect for a stand alone subscription package but not perfect to be included in a package like XL and certainly not when they don't charge extra for HD.

I doubt it's that high up on VM's 'HD shopping spree' list but we'll see.

Sky of course put their prices up, usually in September. And Sky did close some of the ex-VMtv channels but since their September price rise they have launched Nickleodeon HD, Disney XD HD, Eden HD, ITV2 HD, ITV3 HD, ITV4 HD and Sky Atlantic HD. Of course they can do this because of their pricing structure, nevertheless value has been added since their price rise.

As far as I recall no pay channels have been added to XL for over 6 months but i'm happy to be corrected on that. Let's see what happens now VM's prices have increased.

Mate your constant defence of virgin despite the facts
is both without substance and tiresome. You are obviously entitled to your opinion but then again so are those that think the world is flat:rolleyes:

Not at all, unlike yourself I only deal in facts. Broadband, telecommunication and customer service are excellent with virgin. TV? sub standard and falling further behind every month. You keep the false rumours that are as always empty. Good luck Shuggie

The planned 'HD shopping spree' was mentioned by a staff member on here so you will have to wait and see when it starts.

Maybe they are waiting until they have enough nectar points.

I think patience is definitely required of us all. VM are on the up just now, investing a small fortune on TiVo and coming soon HD channels. I think we should at least be grateful that there's something on the horizon...

VM are awaiting the start of the HD sale before they go shopping as we type DF is queuing up to see what bargains are in the sale which is why he has not been on much.:D The moment the sale starts DF will be looking to see what price reductions are on the HD channels before maxing his vm credit card out.:D:D;)

Would disagree about the "On the up" thing. Tivo has dragged on that long now I wish they had never mentioned the thing and just continued as they were, there is building interest and teasing ahead, but this is beyond a joke now. As for adding HD channels, That would hardly pacify me at the moment, giving me yet another option to watch a channel I can already watch. Their first priority should be to add the high profile channels that are missing from SD Virgin Media, as just recently they have added none of them and only succeded in removing channels (the removal of my favourite music channel MTV Classic, is still pretty raw for me). This is not a platform on the up, but one which seems to bring to mind "rats deserting a sinking ship"

Can people just wait as we know channels have been removed and added, But to what ratio over the last year.
We all know that more are coming and so some may go, So can I just say that if you do not like it you are able to vote with your feet and move provider ( I know that some people are unable to get certain providers ).

I think the real difficulty is nobody who posts here can prove anything is actually coming soon. At the same time nobody who posts here can prove Virgin have nothing in the pipeline. This thread is now just a battle ground for people with different views on Virgin to butt heads. Whilst this thread is highly entertaining, and the most popular thread on this site, there is very little factual coming soon news ever posted these days.

With 360,470 views and 5,987 replies (at time of posting), I would say the TiVo thread is the most popular thread. Which is quite interesting, when you look at the poll on the thread for whether people will get TiVo as 58.79% of voters say they will not be getting TiVo. So I find it surprising that the TiVo thread gets so many views when it appears the majority of this forum's readers have no intention of getting TiVo! :confused:

I think that this is more to do with disappointment over the final offer rather than over the product ;)

Statistically yes, I can't argue with you.

If however you visit the first post on this thread Media Boy does state;

"This is a continuation of all the 'Coming Soon to Virgin TV (2010)' threads which you can find here:"

So if you add the views and posts on this thread to those of the 2010 threads we have a clear winner:p:

All jokes aside, you do make a great point about the Tivo thread. I think the main reason the other thread is so popular is because of the lack of info from Virgin over the past 6 months. People were finding more answers to their questions on the Tivo thread than they were relying on Virgin. Ironically I think it's the reason this thread is so popular too!

jagsman 03-04-2011 11:26

Re: Coming Soon to Virgin TV (2011) Vol. I.

It seems that patience is a virtue that many on her dont seem to have. How would we all feel if Virgin announced the following;

From next month we will be adding the following channels;

Sky Arts 1 HD
Sky Arts 2 HD
History HD
Sky Atlantic HD
Nickelodeon HD
BIO HD
ITV2 HD
ITV3 HD
ITV4 HD
EDEN HD
Nat Geo Wild HD
Disney XD HD

Due to the cost of aquiring these channels we are going to have to introduce an HD sub of £11 per month for all HD channels(this does not include any premium HD channels)

We will also be launching ESPNA HD and ESPN 2, but once again due to the cost of aquiring these channels we will have to change our pricing. So from the middle of next month we will be removing all ESPN channels from the XL package, and placing these channels in a premium package costing £12 a month.

We hope that you will be happy that we went out and got all these extra channels for. As for the price increases, what did you expect.

Re: Coming Soon to Virgin TV (2011) Vol. I.

Lets be totally honest here, VM is a second rate provider, they give all these promises about what they will provide.

They have plenty of space to add channels, but all they do is take channels off THEY don't want, and replace them with crap channels that no one wants, they search the market for channels and don't like the prices that providers want.

VM do not keep customers up to date with anything, we all rely heavily on MB for our information.

Dont get me wrong, l have both services (VM and Sky) With VM the phone service is great, but the TV needs to be vastly improved to satisfy the needs of the consumer - US

I think that Niel Berkett, should listen to us, but he won't, Cable services need a kick up the rear, As l said in a previous comment, If l was running VM l would be fighting with Sky, to give the consumer the best of Tv quality first, and then think of how l could improve to to give value for money, and at the moment VM are not doing that,
