gotta say though, watched a little bit this morning, picture is vastly improved, in some movies it was pin sharp. Does make it worth it, was gonna get a bluray player doesn't really seem worth it now.

Glad I'm not the only one who wanted to wake up early to smell the fresh... er high definitionness lol :p

I set up a manual recording to watch the changeover (as I like to see stuff like that) from 5:45 to 6:15, but it cuts straight to when HD1 starts just before 6:00 (as there's the end of a programme, a Sky Sports logo loop and then into GMSF). Guess that must just be how it works.

Just got up now, HD1 is working fine. The guide still says day 5 of the cricket will be on though.

Just had engineer here replacing our V+box with a new shiny samsung (nice box) and he does not know why we do not have the HD channels on yet. He phoned Virgin and they said it was on my account and will be on sometime in the next 24 hours and then phoned another engineer who said he was testing the channels and they are working fine, so he said give it 3 hours and phone customer services.

Mine was on at 7am this morning SS2HD looks glorious, SS1HD looked SD with Sky Sports news on it, is this because SSN is not broadcast in HD even though on HD channel ??

Sky Movies HD from 1st Oct 28.50 makes Lovefilm blu-ray rental look a steal newer films to. Dependant if you have a player that is .1 disc at a time unlimited rentals is about 9.99 .

Someone at Sky is seriously overvaluing the sky premium channels they cost more now than your 6 mix or XL package plus say your broadband. I think sky could see a lot of people downgrading this year. So long as these footballers have a drive full of cars that's all that matters LOL.

When I joined Lovefilm, I went via a link on Amazon and it is a £1 cheaper than joining direct with Lovefilm for the one disc at a time -- -£8.99 as against £9.99. Don't know if that is still the case as it was over a year ago. The discount doesn't apply to the higher levels though.

Well strictly speaking for a whole £3/month more than Virgin charge, and so many more channels it is almost too difficult to count how many more they have.

Plus with Sky 3D launching soon, how much futher behind will Virgin be?

I have subscribed to Virgin since they launched as NYNEX back in the 1990s, but it just seems that Sky are pulling further and further ahead that it is almost a no brainer - if you can get Sky then why stick with an inferior product which costs similar?

It is getting to a point where you could liken Sky to Waitrose and Virgin to Aldi, only there's no difference in price!

Eventually, watching TV will be like running your mobile phone - you'll have inclusive channels or number or programmes for a set price and additional channels or programmes will be charged based on your viewing usage. So you will be charged only for what you watch and not for what you have access to.

That's if greedy Sky can let go of the outdated package subscription based system.

Virgin should adopt this first and put Sky to shame! :)

It's not really that much more when you do count it and not count the duplicates and the sad channels.

And you can relax about 3D, that'll be ditched within a year of launching - watch this space... When it does launch - are you going to splash out on a brand new 46in min size to notice 3D TV? Otherwise you won't be watching 3D.

And for the umpteenth time, Sky is not a superior product. Providing a few more HD channels, or even a 3D channel, does not even begin to make up for lack of on-demand content, lack of 3 tuners, unsightly satellite dish stuck on your house making it look like a box-crushed Millennium Falcon, winter issues, additional LNBs and cables required for each tuner / box, higher additional sub costs for each box, no warranty after a year, etc, etc, etc. Need I go on!? ;)

Virgin are relative fledglings in the TV world and in time will become the superior brand, leaving Sky in the shade. It's already started shifting. It's a shame for those who don't have the foresight to see where this is all leading.

I agree with you, unfortuantely, and have downgraded my tv service to 1 V+ box for bedroom as I wasn't going to pay Virginmedia £12 a month extra to watch movies in HD per box and then not get all the HD channels too. I have now moved to Sky HD and I am loving the quality of the movies in HD along with all the other channels. I swore I would never return to Sky but Virginmedia are getting more and more behind Sky all the time and I had enough, the EPG on Sky is fantastic and so modern compared to the V+ and easier to navigate and find channels especially HD.

I for one would never use Virginmedia for television as it is extra £10 a month for Sky HD compared to £12 for Virginmedia (V+HD box charge £5 plus £7 HD charge).

I will stick with Virginmedia for phone and broadband and leave the TV to Sky.

Sky 3D? you can keep it, not interested at all and if anyone is, then VM will have an On Demand channel for it anyway soon.

a bit OT to this thread but while Tivo will be a good leap forward for VM without the content to go on it VM will always be lacking to Sky. Without all the Sky Sports packages in HD people will always want to go to Sky rather than to VM.

Take the HBO deal Sky have just signed. VM have had that on their VoD service for ages but that never really got any publicity at all, now VM sign a deal and it's mentioned all over the place.

1010 is a smartcard error... call faults on 151 and they will re-hit your card.

Had a nice surprise today. When i last called CS to find out if we could add hd movies without adding the sports package was firmly told we could not.
Today tried again and got it withour any argument at all and switched on within an hour.

scrap that phoned up and they sorted it, although slight concern when I phoned the was an automated message saying that I hadn't yet swapped my smartcard, I have done this already, should I be concerned, the nice lady at cs said it was a standard message for everyone, but it did sound like it was saying it personally to me.

No channels here (Kent)have spoken 3 times to CS listened to Gary Newman 3 times and have got no where, 1st 2 people I spoke managed to cut me of,third person very helpful said everthing ok box and cards paired ok but still no HD,passed on to another dept and if no HD within 24 hours to phone back then,not a happy bunny

Remember a few pages back i said i was paying £69 for XL tv, broadband and L broadband and you guys said i was paying £9 too much. Well i phoned retentions, i got myself XL tv, broadband and phone instead of for £58 which new customers get it for i quoted sky hd+ & talkplus (phone+broadband) for £50.24 after quidco so they offered it me for £51.44. That £6.55 ish cheaper than new customers. Got my £49 v+ hd box ordered at the same time, arrives wednesday via courier, didn't have to pay a self-install charge:). Very chuffed with the result. Do brand new V+ hd boxes still look like this?
