We are in a valley and usually get rain when everywhere else gets snow but we did have a couple of inches this year and had the idiots emptying the bread shelves and fridges it was a bit embarassing tbh.

Well, Den, the forecasters are backing off quickly now with that forecast for snow over the whole country this Easter! As I said, forecasts over such a long period are rarely correct, Sudden Stratospheric Warning or not!

I've got one, though. Temperatures on average over the next five months will increase somewhat over present levels and the weather will be changeable over this period.

Place your bets now, ladies and gentlemen.....

Actually, there has been several Brexit threads - with a combined view of over a million views. Though what the hell this has to do with snow, I will never know.

Think OB would struggle to find his streaming services in Snowdonia/Cairngorms - he'd have to rely on the BBC ;)

I have done Switzerland at Christmas, very expensive and even there snow isn't guaranteed these days. Usually not too far away though if you drive up the nearest mountain :) Trouble with Snowdonia/Cairngorms is that it's usually blowing a gale and no visibility to see any snow !

Re: Snow !

Same here. Was worrying a little because not only did our local train company warn of possible problems, but the company where I work warned of possible problems. Although in fairness, I live in Greater London, but the train company has it's depot near Dartford, and the company where I work has offices down in Chatham, and both Dartford and Chatham can get hit with very heavy snow.

That said, I think we have become a little more wary of the dangers of Snow and Ice. I remember as a kid having to walk to school in a good couple of feet of snow. Hell, we even had to play Rugby (wearing our kit, but no underwear apart from socks and no other clothing) in the snow. Boy, was that fun.

4 1/2 hours for me to drive from Looe to Lostwithiel this afternoon.

We've got a light covering, about 1/2", mostly came down around 8pm last night. Pretty rather than disruptive.

I see in the news that the A30 over Bodmin moor is blocked and people are taking refuge at the Jamacia Inn. (Bolventor). I know from driving that route regularly that it is high and exposed there with several steep hills.

The thing is with Bodmin and the other moors is when it gets bad it gets bad very quickly and that catches drivers out especially on the steep hills as Haldon Hills is another blackspot on the A38..

Yesterday the schools told us and the children that it may be closed tomorrow (now today) and would email parents by 0710 if closed.

No email - school open.

Daughter decides that she doesn't exist so doesn't need to go to school and she is now too big to "carry".

I don't think schools should let their pupils know of a possible closure so there is no disappointment when it doesn't happen. It is also then a nice surprise when they are told in the morning they don't need to get up.

No snow here in London - too expensive for it to visit! :D

Re: Snow !

We had quite a bit yesterday, all day, left us with about 3/4 inch on the ground.
Then it went super cold last night (-7C) so it ended up very icy, esp this morning.

The binmen never came, presumably due to the conditions.
Some low life bumped into my daughters car and broke her number plate - then drove off.

Something about snow that turns us all into kids again... All that's going on in the World and a few flakes of snow still dominate the headlines !

No snow here bar a few flakes in the wind.

Remember at university in Aberystwyth. One February we had a bit of warmth so in shirt sleeves (not quite shorts though) and cars coming in with a good bit of snow on roofs (should really clear it off before driving I know).

Down in Lampeter it only snowed once in the three years I was there, and it barely stayed a day. I always thought it was the sort of place I'd get snowed in every year ...
