Yep, United wore black armbands as a mark of respect to Roy Unwin, a long-serving member of the clubâ₠¬Ã¢â€žÂ¢s backroom staff, who sadly passed away on Friday evening, aged 78.

This will make him think twice about bad tackles and pushing a ref.

Thanks but at home, we should expect more from the manager than a defensive performance with a 3-0 reversal.

Suppose we missed Commons but he did the right thing resting him for the league rather than risking further injury in a cup game we're unlikely to win after the sheep injured him on Sat.

Roll on Leicester at the Crisp Bowl on saturday.

very sad news that.. actually i read a quote from him yesterday that said it was a journalist that came up with the phrase and he said he never really knew what it meant..

3 Euro Cups with Ajax as a great record though and a great manager.. he copied what Hungary did in 58.. i.e each player knowing exactly what they were meant to do and drilled it into the players in each training session and match so in the end it was instinct

well it's not just refs that are inconsistant..

Pennant gets a 3 month sentance for driving and crashing while banned and running off from the scene and then givinga false name

a Man U player, younster anyway, gets 1 year

Football stars who swear at referees during matches are to blame for abusive and unruly behaviour among teenagers in schools, according to a senior teacher. TV companies should not show games until after the 9pm watershed, said Martin Ward, deputy leader of the Secondary Heads Association

EDIT: Better ban kids from going to the match as well, because what is said on the terraces is far worse than what is said on the pitch. ;)

Man Utd, Chelsea, Arsenal and Liverpool all play their respective return european ties this week and I can't see any of them getting through.

Liverpool stand the best chance being already 3 - 1 up against Beyer Leverkusen, but it will not be beyond the home team to get a 2 - 0 victory.

The three other teams will need to produce some good displays to turn around their ties, but I am not that optimistic :(

You wait from May 2004 until March 2005 for an away win- and then two come along in 4 days. w00t.

Watch out for KC's 25-yarder, almost as good as his two 40-yarders against QPR in the cup and Preston a couple of weeks ago. The guy has bags of talent and he's also a forest fan. Who needs Reid?

A win by default you mean by the winning goal being scored as another Chelski player was holding the keeper back.

Actually Roy Keane was all set to sign for Kenny Dagleish at Blackburn Rovers when united stepped in at the last minute, so he was on his way out anyway, Keane had actually shaken hands with Dagleish on a contract but had not signed, Ferguson stepped in on the deal over a weekend apparantly and changed Keane's mind, of course Dagleish was furious.

Yes I know that, SBC couldn't keep his big gob shut [quite glad he didn't, he provided some serious comedy lines over the years and is sorely missed]. Still believe he may have been tapped though just like reid seemed to be with Spurs.

Re: [Merged] Football talk

getting back on topic about football Man U were rubbish last night and the poorer side over the 2 legs..

AC weren't brilliant and didn't look like potential Euro champs either but they playeed better than us in both games and got the result

we have too many 30 plus players.. in defence you can get away with being older but in midfield it is too old

Keane and Scholes and Giggs can still produce on their day but they can't do it week in week out like they used to in 99.. there will be 5-10 games a season where they are as good as ever and several other games where thwy will just go missing..

Rooney, Ruud and Ronaldo also didn't perform last night and for 90 mins Cafu was allowed to run up and down the wing with no one ever tracking him..

look at our bench.. Bellion, Phil Neville and Fortune aren't good enough to be in a European Cup squad.. can you imagine Real Madrid or Juventus bring on a player like them.. not only are they in our squad but they start too many games and have been here for ages.. they should be shipped out and replaced with decent squad players who can come into the first team and play as well as the regulars..

No but when your record signing is 3.5m in 1998 it kind of shows something when Mu can spend ten times that on one player.

And we're fifth in the form table, won 3 of our last 4, and last 6 is W3 D3 so we should stay up.

Jog on.

Yep it is good for success when you can spend big money and break transfer records to get the players you need to win trophies.

Yes, we're in a better financial situation than the lower leagues and can use it. I guess you hate Ferrari in Formula 1 then for the same reason (richer team -> more money for development etc).

Only because for the first half of the season we had a manager who couldn't sign an autograph and didn't know where his ******** was [must have been all the fat].

The club was in such a state when he left that it's even taking Megson a while to turn it round. If we go down it won't be his fault but we're in a saveable position now- we may be 3 pts adrift but we have a game in hand, and have to play Coventry, Gillingham, Crewe and Plymouth still, also Cardiff may well find themselves with ten less points before long or at best a mass player exodus, and Crewe are hopeless sans Ashton.

So it's far from over, you Man U fans are lucky, every time you get a player from the youth you don't have to sell to satisfy the bank balance, and you can even go round poaching other clubs' players- and you never get a bad reffing decision well only in Europe because UEFA aren't **** scared of Ferguson like the FA are.

all together: we hate man united

:blah: I see that you're into vintage whine then? ;)

So you hate us because the only time that we have to sell a player is when he's not wanted and "allegedly" doing something which "allegedly" happens everywhere else? :erm: :) :D

It's still wrong. Jog on.

You'll notice that that your final reply was "It's still wrong". Please tell me where it specifies the exact point you were referring to as wrong, in the first post. (You had 3 points by the way).

I was referring to the money point in this:

I don't agree with it, but it goes on at loads of other clubs, so have a go at them as well.

If there was a degree in missing the point, that would be equivalent to a first class without having attended any lectures. Now you're splitting hairs.

You're the one who didn't point out which point you were pointing to ;) as explained...

My point  was that you should pick on one club, when other clubs do it. Fair's fair.

Sky Breaking News

Manchester City manager Kevin Keegan has parted company with the Premiership club, according to reports.
Stuart Pearce is reported to have taken temporary charge of first-team affairs and a full statement is expected from the club on Friday.

Keegan took over as City manager on 24 May 2001 and his current deal is due to expire at the end of next season.

City lost their last game, 1-0 at home to Bolton on Monday, a result that saw the team slip to 12th in the table.

Let's be honest - if United got spanked 6 nil then I'd avoid this thread for a while too, just like the Arse supporters were in short supply when their team crashed and burned.

Liverpool get through to the next round of the champions league, beating the worst team in that round and you get delusions of grandeur ;) :D

:D Arsenal supporters are still here.

What do you mean crashed and burned as I guess we are talking about Europe here.

Let me some this up then, United lost 1-0 home and 1-0 away with 2-0 on aggregate and would have had to score 3 at home to win which was never even on the cards.

Arsenal lost 3-1 away and won 1-0 at home bringing the aggregate to 3-2 one more goal and we were through to the next round but it did not happen.

Although there was more chance of it happening than United scoring 3 at home.

As for Southampton drubbbing well no surprises as you beat a side 15 places below you with a full side out yet in the week United failed to score against a 10 men side (Palace) who were 14 places below you.

You gotta love these die hard United fans.

:D

Out of curiousity since when have referees had sponsership? Why? FIFA can't be short of a few bob. And isn't a bit of a conflict of interests if Chelsea play? :erm:

Re: [Merged] Football talk

Well, I couldn't be prouder of the boys (Spurs). Everyone expected Necastle to thrash us, but even with all the luck and a Geordie referee, 1-0 is still a great result. We didn't outplay them, we out-classed them most of the time, and it is so frustrating not to be able to get the final touch there. Still, done us proud lads.

have fun... only a kinda "called it" half-tear about hoofing and Megson.

KC is w00t though, and this "lesser teams"... hmm... didn't stop us beating you *see sig* did it.

If we beat Sjoke, and Ips*it beat us 6-0, what could they do to you?

[Megson cited "extenuating circumstances" but I think the players left their ability on the coach.]

Positively maybe this might keep the players' feet on the ground- having gone 6 unbeaten and winning 3/4 it's back on square 1.

Well obviously as United have not got a title to retain :D

Although realistically it belongs to Chelski this year.

True, although have you noticed that each year Arse win the premiership, United end up the following season higher than them?

I can't see him staying beyong more than a few years - he comes across as the type who gets bored easily. I've no doubt he'll turn Chelsea in to a world-class team but where next?
