I have alternate means of watching live channels (at the pub or round a mate's etc etc) but I'll only really lose the ability to record. Besides, it's world cup year and I'll only really miss the cricket and golf.

Should save me over Ł100 and I plan to do it every Summer if it works.

I cancelled Sky Sports at the end of the Rugby League season. I've been threatening to do so for the last few years but took the plunge this year. I haven't missed it one iota. I'm considering just going with Premier Sports (for the NRL) and not bothering with Sky Sports at all

Are you in to any other sports though? I might end up turning it back on for the Rugby Championship in August, as I'll miss that.

I like a lot of sports, but mainly RL. I can live with the sport on the other channels. I go to a lot of live games anyway

Looks like another major player is emerging for the next round of sports rights. Interesting times...

The only thing will transpire for us customers will be higher and higher bills as the more bidders there are the higher the bids will be thus further price rises are inevitable for premium sports customers.

Interesting piece at the bottom of the article:

"John Malone, the chairman of Virgin Media's parent company Liberty Global, is one of the largest shareholders in Discovery Communications. Malone, chief executive of Discovery from 2005 until 2008 when the company was taken public in the US, holds a stake which gives him almost 30% of the voting power. He is a director and member of the executive committee of Discovery."

Very interesting.

"It is understood the decision to appoint Gray, widely credited with reinventing football punditry in Britain during almost 20 years at Sky, is part of a wider strategy to build a relationship with Middle East network beIN Sports, formerly Al Jazeera Sport."

Al Jazeera Sports failed to buy Premiership rights during the last bidding process.

http://www.arabianbusiness.com/al-ja...ts-474012.html

The Premiership rights are up for auction at the end of this year. I wonder if BT Sports and beIn Sports are considering a combined bid to take away all rights from SKY? They could split the costs 50/50 and the rights 50/50.

Not unrealistic. BT and beInb Sports could legitimately kill SKY Sports dead. Without Premiership football and Champions League football SKY would be really up against it.

That's not really what is implied by the comments of the broadcaster in the article though.

Like anyone in the Sports market they will 'look' at it, but seriously they would need to make big effort to make a dent in the English market and at recent prices it is vastly overinflated.

I've asked this before buy can't remember the answer.

Do Virgin offer just SKY Sports 1 & 2, rather than the full SKY Sports pack, if you call up and ask for it? If so, how much is it with Essential Family / Premium.

Thanks
