Beat me to it, Samsung TVs anyway represent 23% of the UK TV market not "the majority", see link below. And as you have indicated some Samsung TV owners have seen this problem as well.

So basically all TV models have seen this issue to a greater or lesser extent and on both this forum and the VM forum there are pages of posts from Tivo users who see this issue. If I did a check of posts, I am sure you would find more posts from people seeing the problem than those who say their picture is fine. It is almost a matter of how much you tolerate it or the degree of "softening" you see versus those who say their TV is fine. Not saying there are not people who see no affect, just highlighting that it is also not only a few who have this issue and it is more common than some people on this thread seem to want to believe?

May even be worthy of a survey if somebody wants to set one up?

At the end of the day this will be fixed though and the issue resolved. it is just frustrating waiting!

that is the nature of forums though, there will always be more negative posts than people posting that theirs is ok.

Thanks, I think we have therefore confirmed Samsung TV owners can be affected as well!

Bring on that fix!

I can't tell the difference when sat on the sofa watching TV as normal. But if I put 999 on and look up close, my Acoustic Solutions TV is actually quite badly affected by it.

In fact having gone through this thread and the 18 page one on the official forums and counted up the numbers, there are more Samsung users reporting that they have the problem than there are ones who say its fine. So I don't know where this idea that Samsung TVs aren't affected came from.

I agree somethings are quite complex and do need time, but you would think that changing the field order would be a single line of code or even just a true/false variable.

What is more likely is that VM have contractually agreed x number of releases per year and don't want to fork out extra money for an interim fix.

I agree with that you would expect an issue like this to be sorted by now especially when they want new customers to leave other providers and pay 199.95 for the box.

It's being tested with a select group of customers very shortly.. the same customers that complained on the VM Community Forum. they will be the first (customers) to road test the new software release for the picture issue.

Rushing a software patch out is not a good idea.. these have to be tested to ensure stability of TiVo :)

Speaking as one who is experiencing PQ problems (on SD /HD is fine) I totally agree that the fix should not be rushed

Just for clarity I to have a Samsung TV, :)

Good to hear , I've seen TIVO on my mates TV I think its a Sony Bravia and PQ seemed ok to me and I had a play around in a VM shop and that seemed acceptable , it was around a 46" set not sure of make , so it seems a strange issue.

My mistake. Most of the reports of people who don't get the problem that I've seen have been Samsungs, albeit higher-end ones. Maybe it's just those of us with cheaper TVs who are affected. Mine's a £500 40" Sony and definitely has the problem.

Don`t have any PQ problems on my 50" panasonic plasma, although I (touch wood ) have had none of the problems that other users have been reporting.

Ps Sorry telling lies have had the red doughnut for about a minute now and again

Have a look at the text on channel 554. I'd been interested to hear if anyone cant see the flickering text on there.

My Samsung LE40M86 which has the problem had an RRP of ~£1100 when released around 4 years ago. It could be that newer models handle the problem better.

I still have a nagging doubt that there are 2 PQ problems. The interlacing problem Lew posted the pictures of, and the soft washed out picture that I'm seeing.

I say this because I see the soft washed out picture whether I'm at 720p or 1080i, but I also get the flicker with 720p.

Whereas Lew says he can't see a PQ problem unless he's up close and looking at the interlacing.

Hopefully they are one and the same... but I have that nagging doubt.

Boz
