|
Re: UK Energy Prices
Octopus have charged me £100 early exit fees, even though my contract ends on 11th April! Not happy, already fired off an email at 5am.
|
Re: UK Energy Prices
That is nuts . Nothing on my final bill although they sent a second final bill because they charged me a days usage when they should not but to be pedantic they did charge me the days standing charge . Always did on on X myself

For anyone with smart meters who moved to Outfox, how long before smart meter readings were viewable in their app because I see nothing other than my manual readings?

I dont recall exactly how long it took for the current day to appear, a week or two maybe. |

So they shouldn't take another direct debit because I am £162.24 in credit but I don't trust them after the last error and don't want to cancel the direct debit just yet. I've just emailed them to see what happens. ---------- Post added 17-03-2026 at 00:24 ---------- Previous post was 16-03-2026 at 23:00 ---------- Since I fixed with Outfox last week their current fixed rate is 22.74p and mine is 24.89p for Electricity, I was expecting the unit rates to increase. |
Re: UK Energy Prices
On holiday at the moment, so not a true representation of real life, but on Saturday the solar panels exported £3.06 of electricity while the batteries cost £0.49 to charge overnight. Bodes well for the summer, when I'm expecting the monthly bill to actually be a credit.
I'm thinking we're looking at >£450/month savings over the year as a whole when you factor in the £300 or so a month we no longer spend on petrol since going electric with the car too. I won't know until this time next year as we've just had building work done so been heating the house with fan heaters etc and had dehumidifiers going for all the plaster and concrete screeds. Big changes done and hope the underfloor heating saves some money on the gas bill too. When we get some more money together we're hoping to add another extended on the back of the house and at the same time install a heat pump and air conditioning. Also, because of the batteries, our usage is so low during weekday peak hours, EDF give us 16 hours of free electricity every Sunday. But on a sunny day it'll be better to export at 15p a unit and still consume off-peak at 8p a unit. I need to sit down and work out when the crossover will be - over the last few weeks we've been able to hit around 150kwh of free electricity on Sundays, but that's almost using it for the sake of it. |
Re: UK Energy Prices
Outfox have now pulled their fixed rate tariffs.

Re: UK Energy Prices
My fixed deal is starting to look like a good decision.
I wasnt sure taking one for two years was a good idea at the time. I've never taken one for that long before, but atm, its proving to be an excellent deal. |

Next week Intelligent Octopus Go is dropping its electricity rates - day rate down from 28 to 26, night rate down from 7 to 5p. Just in time for us becoming an all-EV household. :D
We charged both simultaneously last night for the first time. It looked something like this …. https://www.cableforum.uk/board/atta...1&d=1774551457 That’s the big one on our 7kW wall box and the little one on a 3kW three-pin granny charger. The dishwasher is also on, taking advantage of cheap rate running overnight. So we’ll be sucking the national grid dry on a nightly basis and thankfully avoiding the disastrous prices the local garage is now charging for petrol. |

The image (attachment) you linked to doesnt exist.
I got my new kWh rates from Outfox today, Gas = 4.971p, Elec = 16.603p Both are inclusive of VAT. |
Re: UK Energy Prices
Very good Electricity rate, I've not had notification of my new rates yet.

Re: UK Energy Prices
Not a good start with Outfox for me too
Final Gas reading with Octopus 10011 I was billed at this figure. I gave both them and Outfox the same reading at the same time. Got my first Outfox Bill and they some how have an opening reading of 9965 and an estimated reading for this bill of 10001 which is for energy I have already paid for. God knows where they got that figure from |
Re: UK Energy Prices
I've had my final bill for Gas from Octopus, not the Electricity yet.
My new rates from April 1st. Electricity: 21.868p Gas. : 5.495p |
Re: UK Energy Prices
Turns out the regulator did not accept my readings thinking I had used to much gas and magically my bills had me paying twice for the same energy
Called them up and was told this and how she worded it triggered me as it is all making me out to be deceitful trying to over egg the old reading to get it at the cheaper rate. So basically they think I am defrauding them out of a measly £15 which is what the over charge is Also I now have to send proof I am not lying after teller her the reading now is 40 units higher than the wrong estimate you had so how was my reading a lie when I joined. Sent both the octopus bill showing I paid and a timestamped photo of the meter . Not impressed in the slightest |

Still can't see any smart meter reading on my Outfox account so I'm hoping it'll popup the next time I get a monthly bill. |

Assuming Outfox is cheaper, then using a lower reading is surely better, more on the cheaper rate with them. |

Our electricity is now 20.2p peak and 4.98p off peak AND the off peak hours have changed from 00:00 to 05:00 to 23:00 to 06:00.
Our gas is 5.33p. We're with EDF. |
Re: UK Energy Prices
Octopus has now refunded what they owed, so that's me finished with Octopus atleast for a year.

We certainly do, so they can dry out in the sun after washing (granted, not always at a weekend). |
Re: UK Energy Prices
The government has to frame it as something they are giving to the public.

Then we will see "stick" mode: peak power periods become more expensive, training us to only use power at off-peak times. And those periods will be set by the power companies. Once again, the belief is that we all work 9 to 5 jobs, Monday to Friday, as they believed when Work From Home became a thing. |
Re: UK Energy Prices
With a renewable grid the cheap times are set by the weather not the companies.
