It nothing to do with Virgin's STV deal.

All Channels rebrand coming soon as far as Media Boy HQ knows is listed on Media Boy Blog.

Amazon would be quite an attraction to customers even if it's not included in a bundled package. I would imagine Virgin would see including Amazon in preparation for the Premier League games that Amazon have next season, as VM can market it as all the PL in one place

I believe Amazon even have a couple of games over the Xmas period this season, so your theory makes sense. Would be great for Virgin to keep all of the football in once place.

Exactly right. The football is on Amazon from 2019/2020 season when the new PL deal starts

Amazon only have one bundle of games.
"Amazon will show 20 Premier League matches a season for three years from 2019, after winning one of the final two broadcast packages.

The online streaming service won the rights to show every game from the first round of midweek fixtures in December and all 10 matches on 26 December as part of a three-year deal"

That's correct. The first time a round of matches will all be shown live in UK. Many might just take a month of subscription in December next year then cancel!

And if the Amazon App appears on the Tivo, then Virgin will still have all the football in once place...not necessarily on one bill

I want to see Amazon Prime added to Virgin without delay. This will be a major advance towards the future and will be a more attractive proposition that will help to retain existing customers and attract new ones.

Also with the Virgin-Amazon deal on new content that was signed back in Feb this year, it would make sense.

All the football in one place, but also new content too.

It's still going to cost you to subscribe to Amazon, can't see what all the fuss is about, just another service to pay for!

For those that subscribe already, it's a convenience.
For those that don't, it may tempt them into a trial at least

Premier League yes, but there have been several rounds of mid-week Championship football where all games have been shown live this season.

Yes, but seen in the context of how TV is changing, this is a good move. Sky is bound to do this as well before long, and Virgin cannot afford to be left behind, as this will mean fewer subscribers.

For the present, it will be good news for those of us who subscribe to Amazon Prime because we would be able to bookmark our wishlist programmes to 'My Shows' on the V6.It will also be less confusing for my wife, who doesn't go near my Fire stick!:erm:

Bosch and Ozark are next on my list once I've watched the various series I have been following! I've had to prioritise the recordings so I don't run out of disk space!

All the football in one place, but also new content too.

Just a thought, thinking outside the box...
What if its the other way around..ie access to Virgin Media TV Subscription and Virgin GO content through the Fire Stick with an Amazon Football Pass? This would propel VM to compete with Now TV. Just saying.

Courtesy of Sky, maybe soon the HD variants of the BBC's regional programming may be made sooner rather than later. Let's hope so. That ridiculous red screen that pops up on BBC HD every time regional programming commences is annoying, and frankly the Beeb should be embarrassed to have this banner appear with monotonous regularity, even during prime time.

Not at all, Den, you need to justify these claims of yours!

I can see why muppetman posed that question, looking back. However, the reason the red screen is so annoying is that I have to record the news and national weather and have a separate recording for the local news. So I tend to watch the News at Ten, fast forward to the national weather, delete that and move on to the local news. As the main news is of varying length, more often than not you then have to fast forward through the last part of the main news just to see the local bulletin in SD.

OK, it's not exactly a world crisis, but after years of this, it's about time they fixed it!

Well, the claims are not 'wild', they are broadly in line with industry thinking and just because you don't like the idea of these predicted changes doesn't mean they won't happen. Of course many of these 'predictions', (which are really just my thoughts on what the future will look like - they are not set in stone or authoritative by themselves) are looking to the future, about 15 years from where we are now.

Hell, if 'Tomorrow's World' can get it wrong, I'm sure you can be a little more forgiving! :D

Whereas, you say none of this will happen, but you have provided nothing to back up that view. That's fair enough - it is a discussion forum - but given the considerable number of links I have provided, I would have thought you could have justified this very strong notion you appear to have that nothing will change.

Going further, Sky also says the substitution should also occur if a broadcaster opts to make a regional HD service available on other platforms, but not Sky. This would mean that potentially, Sky viewers would find an HD service with different regional programming on channels 101-104, and would have to scroll down the channel list to find the correct regional programme.

Cable viewers in large areas around London have had to do that since its inception. (eg Bedford & Tunbridge Wells where the local channels are in the 800s). Be interesting if Sky screws it up in even more areas.

I suspect that this is in response to the recent agreement made between VM and STV, whereby STV HD will go on 103 on VM in STV areas.

It might be. The new Sky contract with VM should be negotiated by summer 2019, and given Sky's previous comments that they will make SA available on all major TV platforms, I would envisage that we'll get it when the current contract comes to an end.

By then, my current VM contract will be up so I'll be weighing up renewal vs ditching VM and moving to NowTV for all my TV needs. Or Sky Q's internet-based service (cough, splutter)… ;)

Ha ha, I was waiting for you to pipe up, Max! I can't help agreeing with you. :D

I think the only channels worth looking at are Virgin Ultra HD (some good programmes on there), Love Nature and far behind that, Paramount. Not being a lover of sport, there is nowt else on any of those lists that interest me at all. Either they are channels showing constant repeats or the content is less than mediocre.

I would say that there is the occasional good new drama on the Drama channel, but the picture is very poor quality so I've given up on that. I can't see why they don't offer the channel in HD.

Well Virgin are up to something.

http://www.digitalbitrate.com/dtv.ph...&sec=0&lang=fr

Project 1 and 2 are back duplicating Challenge and Sky Sports Golf, but there's also about 5MB/sec off the total bandwidth for the frequency introducing the possibility of truly hidden tests.

Obviously the low voting numbers are an indication of the interest in those channels.

Just proves what a load of dross is on TVs these days

Your opinion obviously but many don't share that opinion in the wider populace.

I don't think many would disagree that the quality on the scheduled TV channels has gone down in recent years.

Having said that, the quality of some of the dramas on BBC, ITV and Channel 4 seem to have improved. Just not enough of them!

Don't see how you can include all the UKTV channels as 'new' they have been around for years and were only off the platform for a few months.

"a few months" - UKTV was removed by UKTV from July 22nd to August 11th.

Also if rumours on the web is true UKTV will not be staying for much longer.

UKTV Channels are rumoured as set to be cut up as followed:

BBC Studios are set to own:

-GOLD HD
-W
-Alibi
-Dave
-Drama
-Really
-Alibi +1
-W +1
-GOLD +1
-W HD
-Dave HD
-Alibi HD
-Dave ja vu

Discovery will own:
-YESTERDAY
-YESTERDAY +1
-Eden
-Eden +1
-Eden HD
-Good Food
-Good Food +1
-Good Food HD
-Home
-Home +1

Rumours say the only thing holding them back from confirm the deal is Discovery wants Dave channel number on Sky for Quest.

All rumours as seen by Media Boy HQ on Broadcastnow and other web sites.

Re: Coming Soon to Virgin TV (2018)

Given how the BBC is regarded in documentaries I'd have thought they'd want to keep some factual channels.

If I were splitting UKTV

BBC would get: GOLD, Dave, Drama, Yesterday, Eden
Discovery would get: Really, W , Alibi, Home, Good Food

Another name change on the way. CBS Action becomes CBS Justice next month.

https://www.a516digital.com/2018/11/...s-justice.html

Just over nine years after it first launched on satellite, CBS Action will join Sony Crime, Sky Witness, Crime + Investigation and TruTV in focusing its content around the subject of crime. The switch is due to take place on the 5th December 2018.

Just to make clear .This applies to virgin only . sd is not being closed by BT. That said I wonder why SD is used along side HD on virgin services?

Up till recently, Virgin still had SD only boxes, so needed SD only versions of all HD channels. They don't now.

BBC HD is moving from the 4th of December on Virgin TV.

These are the new changes below.

BBC One HD in England 108 - BBC Two HD in England 102
BBC One HD in Scotland 101 - BBC Two HD in Scotland 162
BBC One HD in Northern Ireland 101 - BBC Two HD in Northern Ireland 102
BBC One HD in Wales 101 - BBC Two HD in Wales 102

I know. But read denphone's post. The regional version of BBC1 HD for the Nations is moving to 101, the only reason the English regions aren't are they aren't all available in HD.

And all regions except Scotland of BBC2 are moving to 102. Scotland won't have a regional version of BBC2 (at all, even in SD) come January when BBC Scotland launches. The regional SD version has to stay in place for now and then Scotland will get national version of BBC2 HD in January on 102.

Sorry, misunderstood.
I believe the apps will still stream BT Sports in SD, as before.
There is no concept of channel numbers or SD/HD on the Virgin TV Go app.

Our TiVo boxes has today confirmed BT Sports SD will only close on Virgin.

They are mostly English BBC1 regions aren't they? And there aren't HD versions of most English BBC1 regions, hence why BBC1 HD isn't switching over to 101 on VM anywhere except Scotland,Wales and Northern Ireland.

I'd imagine they'll therefore remain for now.

No.

Channels are from England (London), Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland. Plus BBC Two England SD.

I do watch them to see what other parts of UK views are on Brexit.

Silly me. I was getting mixed up with how they are on satellite.

Now I've had a look on EPG I think if they don't remove them they'll make them all HD. Whichever makes sense on the network to VM.

I think Scottish viewers may well get the STV Player, but as to whether it will be available outside Scotland, that is more doubtful.

You are right about Amazon in that there is no firm news yet. However, given that it appears to have been Liberty Global that put an end to Virgin's early attempts to put Amazon on the platform, their recent decision to embrace OTT viewing and Amazon's arrival on BT, it is only a matter of time now. I'm sure that VM would not want to be beaten by Sky on this one!

I doubt that will happen next year now. I would be surprised if this came about before the V6s were replaced by the next set top box. I have not read anything in recent times to suggest the Horizon boxes were coming to Virgin Media, although Liberty Global distribute Horizon throughout their markets on the Continent.

The STV Player was wrongly announced as available now in this week’s Virgin TV Edit email. On checking, I was advised it’s not quite ready.
